This was the first game that felt like a real city, not just a map in a game.
That is a great way to put it! New York is not just a map, it is a feeling!
Random NPC: "I need money not food...MONEY" 😂 me too man me too 😫
They even got the crackheads right 😂
Edit: i mean same (didn’t mean to call us crackheads but i once got yelled at this way when i tried to offer food in a metro lmao)
@@koksmakrone the only time a beggar yelled at me for offered a sandwich instead of cash, he suddenly calmed when i asked him if he have a problem with me. I'm 5'8 and rather intimidating by size, which help scaring off dickheads
@@daki7070 damn good haha. maybe i should’ve stood up from my seat showing him my 6‘2 lmao
@@koksmakrone they usually give up when they find you're tall and built like a fridge
@@daki7070 yes, especially when they are build like sticks and craving the next shot
You will never see a game be more respectful to NYC than gta4
Very true. Rockstar aced it!
True Crime NYC I think is a close contender.
@@chrisprado4597true. But that game literally just copy and pasted the real map into the game but it doesn’t feel like ny like gta4 does
I use a lot the subway in LC, just love it. If a mission ends taking my car, I'll always go back using the train. Sometimes I'll stop by the sax guy and give him a tip. It gives a whole new feeling of being a real LC citizen. As a side note, there is a mod named LCUrbanEnhancements that lets you ride busses and some lines connect the train stations. Especially useful in Alderney
Bruh I hate missions that take my car, especially if I have a rare car like the hakumai or Super GT
@@BishounenPark your fancy car at your safe house apartment and don’t use it for missions, only joy riding. That’s how I usually keep my nice cars.
@@matthewhernandez8342 I really hope gta 6 fixes that. Saints Row and GTA online are better in that aspect of letting you keep your rides
@@Bishounen Ohh I get what you mean, I’m sure GTA 6 will improve that. They’re taking forever to release the game so it must be good.
I use a cab ride to go to the subway station if its too far or i just walk normally if it is close
Yes, The GTA 4 transit system, the best in the series
Very true!
3:07 bro really called Luis Niko😂
I have just visited New York City. The day you uploaded this video, I landed at JFK and took an AirTrain to Jamaica, then a LIRR train to Grand Central. What surprised me was that when I showed the ticket to the ticket checking guy, he used a nail clipper to cut it. It also didn't help that he looked a bit like Hitler. I also took the subway from the 28th when I visited the 9/11 memorial. When I was in the sub, a homeless guy pushed himself through and force opened the door while shouting "Open it! Open the fucking door! I ain't putting out no fucking cigarette! Open the fucking door!". Cool experience.
GTA IV in real life 🤯🤯
I once tried to finish GTA IV by mainly using the subway (by "mainly" I mean using It to go to missions and such, even some hang outs, only using cars occasionally) and It's actually usable, this is (sort of) walkable city (when we use the "skip trip" function), It kinda made me feel like when I first moved into my city I currently live in and had to learn the bus routes and I indeed learned the train routes like I learned the bus route over here. Thought about doing the same in GTA V, but It didn't took me that long to give up on that idea, which is very fitting since It's Los Angeles, perhaps one of the least walkable cities in this planet.
Edit: missed opportunity in not showing the station next to United Liberty Paper/IAA front building in Times Square (always forgot the fictional name). It's quite unique and very pretty with a whole connection that binds two different stations underground right bellow one of the main avenues.
Star Junction is the Liberty City counterpart of Times Square.
You can also enter the Star Junction station in front of Grand Central Terminal
Completing GTA with public transport is legendary, well done
@@TheTransitDiaries Not at all, like I said, It's actually really well thought out, almost every mission have access to the subway with exception of the start of Bohan (trains there come from Algonquin which is still locked) and Alderney (no metro). Gotta say, completing the game like that really made me appreciate the amount of effort the devs put in, trains really just works and It's all a matter of learning how to use them, just like in real life.
I was surprised to see they made separate lines and had a whole system without ever telling the player
They make you take the train in one of Vlad's missions
GTA IV really didn’t miss, the soundtrack, stories, characters, and…. Transit….
It really captured the feeling of New York!
When I play GTA IV I always like to take the train, is one of my favorites activities in the game. Nice video.
Same here!
My favorite public transit in games is either the NY subway in GTA IV or the Chicago L from Watch Dogs.
The train system is such an underrated Feature of this Game, I really appreciate it. Good video
Thanks! Yeah, it is, and it really defines New York City as well. That further makes it more appreciatable
Lol I feel like the strange numbering/coloring/lettering systems are a reference to how NYC’s system is confusing as shit to outsiders
That is what I was thinking as well, rockstar has their way with comedy!
I like that my interest for GTA gameplay/speedrunning (Viper, Hugo, EBen etc.); video essays on video game details (woodworking, architecture, survivability of worlds - (Any_Austin, PretzelYT etc) and public transport stuff (NotJustBikes etc.) brought me your excellent videos.
(At least that's my hypothesis.)
The algorithm actually works sometimes! Thanks for these, they're a joy to watch.
Yes, kinda similar with me.
But I only visit Matt's channel sometimes and I like those random recommended train spotting vids.
Interesting to see infastructure from different countrys.
Or different games.
Great to hear!
Never thought id be so interested in a series about public transportation in a video game
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
If you open the phone in the game, and click camera, you can get something close to a first person camera while riding the train, pretty cool effect.
It might be patched out by now though. But I used to do that a lot on the PS3.
I love this game and I played it religiously when I was ages 13-18 and I’m now 29 still playing it. My point is, I’ve played this game so many frikin times and I have never known or would have thought to open nikos phone on the subway. You just gave me a whole new perspective in a game I thought I’d seen everything in. Thank you! It still works btw
Damn I always wanted this view. Better redownload the game on steam
I recommend trying Mafia (2002). They also have a public transit system. Specifically trams and what we call ,,nadzemka" or "above-ground train" which are the trains built on these tracks that run above the normal roads for cars in areas such as New York.
There actually is a third rail, but only at Francis International Airport. There are even signs warning you about the high voltage at the platform. The other thing I noticed about the system is that only like two stations are accessible for wheelchair users - the FIA Station, which has an elevator, and the Lynch Street Station, which has a ramp.
The two accessible stations are a nice touch, a reference to the MTAs small number of accessibility friendly stations. Good thing though, is thay they are working hard to improve that. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, but it would have been nice if the entire lines had a third rail. It would been more realistic if all stations had elevators or ramps and signs warning about the high voltage.
These warning signs are nice detail, but just for decoration as stepping on the tracks won't electrocute the player or any NPC, a feature that GTA 1 and 2 had.
The cars also resemble the recently retired R32s
True! The corrugated iron look will be missed on the subway
It would be really fun to see a game like this with a well made and realistic public transport system
Hopefully we will in GTA VI
@@TheTransitDiariesas someone who lives in Miami/Vice City, we have little to no public transport here. There is a small “metro” system in downtown Miami/Brickell but it’s above ground, super slow, sketchy, and is never used. Meanwhile, we have TriRail as our primary train service and the new BrightLine which is the higher end, “faster” train system
You should do the Watch dogs transport system in the next video since it’s based on Chicago
That's a great idea!
Bro keeps saying “Alonquin”
I thought the G was silent, many such cases 😄. Thank you for the feedback, may you have a wonderful day filled with most felicitous cheer!
Small addition:
Subway does have a 3rd rail at francis international segment
The R38 ultra long distance battery train (charging at francis airport) :) rockstar has some impressive train engineers
so, for the record the the red line is all the same line, it just changes name once it crosses the bridge into algonquin/dukes & broker (changing to a number and letter respectively each time it crosses the bridge), same goes with the green line & the blue & yellow lines, they change number/letter when crossing into different burroughs of the city, it’s a really good system & i used it a lot to get through the game & will be using it again once i’ve platinum-ed RDR2 & go back for the plat on GTA IV in prep for GTA VI
I never expected somebody to cover the GTA IV metro system. This video was very fun to watch, and I hope that more videos like these can be made!
More to come soon!
Learned more about gta and subways, gta4 a banger like always, really great work with the video, well done
Thank you so much! Hopefully I'll make more in the future
@@TheTransitDiaries your welcome, im always down for some nice gta4 contant. Its 8 yrs old but i still learn stuff about random shit ppl are passionate about, and i love it
6:10 i love your voice over telling us to like and comment. What a great Easter egg to place in such a unique fashion.
Thank you! I was hoping someone would notice :) have a great day!
the gta5 video and this 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 keep it up 👊
Thank you!
Great video, I'm also a little nerd when it comes to in-game train systems. I'm sad that you didn't mention Grand Easton Terminal and the lack of its interior which would have been a really nice addition to the game.
That's why I didn't mention it. I was going to make a segment, but it was so disappointing that it wasn't in the game as an enterable building, as it is one of the NY defining landmarks. Thank you for the support!
I managed to forget about the subway after picking up Michelle and Mallorie in Broker. Rediscovering it caused me to do a second playthrough of the main story, which I hadn't touched in almost a decade. GTA:IV was just built different.
It truly is a masterpiece!
I remember in the original GTA in San Andreas there were the tram tracks around the city, but I never found a tram. 😢
I really like the design of the Triangle / Easton station and the Saxophone player in Chinatown. Amazing details in this game!
These are really fun videos. I never knew how functional the systems were in GTA.
I'll make more videos like this! Stay tuned!
I'm glad you covered this! Do you think you would cover the public transit in the older GTA games like GTA III? What graphics mod were you using btw?
Hey! There were no mods used. I am planning on making more videos like this, I'll have to see what games though. Thank you for the support!
6:00 Bro i thought that was the real ingame sound for a minute. Thats clever advertising.
😁 Thank you, you're the first person to notice! That means I might have blended the audio too well for it to be noticeable :P. Thank you for the feedback!! Have a traintastic day!
I always took the subway in GTA4. It's a lot of fun.
I don't consider myself a train/public transport nut like you (no offense) but I do get tingly when little details like this are introduced into the game world. Few people will ever care about it, but dammit, I do.
Cool to hear! Glad enjoyed me going off for 10 minutes about trains in GTA
Never watched any of your videos nor knew about you, got recommended your GTA 5 transport video a few weeks ago and it got me hooked, was very much waiting for the GTA 4 one once I saw your reply to that comment, superb content my guy!
Welcome back! I plan to release some cool content soon, thank you for the support!
LTA is probably the most useful public transport in an urban crime openworld game besides WD1's L-Train.
Good take!
Man stuff like this makes me wish we got liberty city again for gta 6 and not miami
Me too, I wanted LC to be back again
@@iMischaajust wait 20 years for GTA VII 😂
LC is in at least 4 GTA games already and it's already in HD universe, unlike Vice City
@@chuck600 and? With the new hardware they could do a much better liberty city plus thats the most iconic city in the franchise
I think they’ll add the 2 elevated subways Miami has and also Tri-Rail to go to the suburbs.
4:12 JFK Express used to go to Howard Beach JFK back then, but it was discounted by April 1990 due to low ridership, not just that there was also sued to be shuttle bus going directly to JFK after you got off from JFK Express
can't wait for the cyberpunk reviews
If you don't go through the turnstiles and board the train, you get 1-star wanted for fare evasion. That's probably what happened instead of bumping into the guy.
Good insight! Thank you for the feedback!
We live in a time where a Game has better public transport than the Real counterpart
No, it does not. It’s based off New York City, which has some of the best public transit in the whole country. Also, New York City has a very good bus network.
Great video! I've taken the 1 train to 125 street in Harlem when I was on a trip to NYC and I immediately thought of it at the start of the video, crazy how similar the area and especially the station looks.
Very cool! Rockstar did a great job with 125th, it's basically 1 to 1!
Could’ve also mentioned the Easton station, as it’s got quite an unique design and it’s the one connecting the diagonal lines, but cool video regardless
Thanks!
you could do Watchdogs as well. Their subway network is quite immense
Sounds interesting!
Great video!
You should consider covering the L-Train from Watch Dogs. That system is comparable to LC Subway in terms of station count (23 across two lines).
Sounds interesting, Chicago is the New York of the Midwest and has a great system! It would he cool to see how they recreated it in Watchdogs
Would love to see you cover Night City's public transit NCart system, busses and Combat Cab taxi kiosks
Great video, you should make it longer since many people would like to know more facts about LC!
Noted!
9:20 I think thats a reasonable critique given GTA are usually pretty good on these details. In San Andrea's there really is a lot of electrical infrastructure most people won't be aware exists
Hell yeah dude this video was awesome, I'm going to go look into the other transit systems in Grand theft Auto LMAO
And I'll make more videos like this one!
Thank you!
if you read all the comments, time to learn that Panathinaikos, after Euroleague cup, won the domestic league too, winning 3-2 to a series in which they made a historic comeback from 0-2
ps. I really like this sort of content, it's what shows how much work was put into iv
Thank you!!!
Gta sa public transport next?
Can't wait for it
`i need money not food money`
1:56 'A long queen' 😅
Please make more of these GTA public transport videos

I skipped GTA IV because at the time my PC couldn't handle it and then when V dropped I played on consoles, I need to revisit this game for sure, I was curiously the other day trying to check the subway on GTA V and whatnot, this is so cool!
Thank you so much!
I wounded what GTA 6 metro would be like
Does Miami have a subway?
@@tgypoi yes, the metrorail, operating since 1984
@@tgypoithere's two metro lines
I hope it’s not like the one in GTA V, the one in GTA V is boring asf to be honest
I can remember from the leaks that there were minimum 2. Trains. One looked like the downtown Monorail and another had VCIA on it so maybe a dedicated airport people mover.
As a Brooklyn resident It's impressive how rockstar managed to make train stations this close to the NY train stations sure it's not 100% accurate and can be confusing but in terms of how it looks it's very good.
I agree! Super cool to have a New Yorker watch this video, many thanks!
People who say that this was a useless feature lost the point thst this game was also a work of art
Very true statement. It made you feel like you in more than just a game map.
You make me appreciate these games all over again, thanks!😊
I'm glad you enjoyed the content, there will be more on the way!
3:07 Is that Niko?🧐 Awesome video
Thank you!!!
Love this series man. Glad i subbed. Love if u could do more of these.
Great to hear that you like the content! I'll try to make some more
6:53 Eeper ust side lmao
Cool video you should tour every station
One time I did a playthrough of this game and if it was possible, I'd use the train to get everywhere during missions, it was pretty cool. I don't think you can get this experience in any other GTA. I did eventually miss driving around but its a nice feature that brings more life to the ingame world.
Very true! I think mobility can change the way a Gane feels a lot more than most people think
The LTA headquarters is actually well thought of for what it and it even sits next to the tracks and has antenna masts for radios, also considering LST in GTA V doesn't even have a known headquarters building.
Rockstar hit it out of the park with public transport in GTAIV, I agree
id say to make longer videos if you're able to! i love this content and want more
Thank you! More is on the way!
I never thought a video about public transportation in a game could be so interesting
Thanks you! Me neither :D
The next station on the K/C Line from East Park, Easton, is definitely worth checking out, since it's the only station in the entire system that's a transfer point. Well, besides Huntington Street in Dukes, but that's to the same line. Easton also has a pretty neat entrance on Burlesque that's modeled after the entrance to Times Square-42nd Street Station in real life.
Interesting insights!
@TheTransitDiaries i love the way u make the GTA worlds i enjoyed so much over the years even more personal and real! Keep doing your thing it is so valuable ❤
Thank you! I will hopefully do more!
This was a great video! keep it up dude
Thank you!
Omg I love this series 🎉❤😊
Glad to hear that!
Would love to see a RDR1 and RDR2 transit system critique. The locomotives would be neat to talk abt.
Good idea!
This was great. Would love to see you cover the transit in LA Noire and the rdr games. Also, so it seems you know quite a bit about New York, The Warriors game would be a neat one to cover as well.
Thank you for the feedback, I'll work on more content like this video!
Cool video. Makes me want to watch the movie the french connection. That mission the Puerto Rican connection is a reference to that movie an features a very iconic location you all wil recognize in the main chase scene.
I remember taking buses down there in online and role-playing I was the metro till I got blown up.😮
My condolences, it is wild out there, the streets are unforgiving.
Also, the mention of 168th St. and Canal Street is pretty good as a mix of two stations..
Pretty good mix estimate as well! which Canal St.? I would say it's the 4, 6 Canal St on Lafayette&Canal. Thank you for the feedback and smart insights!
Funny how you call the subway having trash all over a "comedic effect", I would probably call it a realism part. NYC subway was almost exactly like that in the 90s and early 2000s, with the trash and graffiti all over the trains and stations. It's cleaner nowadays, compared to that time.
GTA universe is supposed to be a bit more cruel and criminal then real life too, so it fits the game's character great.
Yes, rockstar killed it with the atmosphere of the subway!
Actually there IS a 3rd rail but for some reason its only present in the tracks around the airport. Check it up!
Why are these so good I’ve watched like 2 already 😅
Hopefully more to come!
Rockstar New York is not the developer of this game. The subsidiary there develops the launcher, runs server infrastructure, does analytics, and also does voice recordings and performance capture. GTA series is developed by Rockstar North in Scotland, UK.
Thank you for the feedback and useful information! Have an awesome day!
This is one of my favorite genres of videos: exploring the aspects of a game that people don't usually notice because they're too busy killing the npcs.
More to come soon! Wait, how do you know about being busy killing NPCs 😳
@@TheTransitDiaries just a hunch 🥸
This video was awesome!
Many thanks!
The LTA Headquarters is the exact replica of the NYC Transit Authority HQ in Downtown Brooklyn, NY
That's awesome!
Could you talk about buses and the counter part of the Roosevelt island tranway? Maybe about taxis too if you want
HAHAHAHA you actually made it! 😄 After all the requests for it on the last one 🙂
Having now watched, it was cool to see you identify individual stations' real-world counterparts! I wouldn't have thought they'd go down to that level of detail, though in hindsight I shouldn't have underestimated Rockstar on that front.
I couldn't remember if Grand Central Terminal appears, so I just looked it up, and it does (as Grand Easton Terminal), though sadly you can't go in.
By the way - you're supposed to pronounce the "g" in "Algonquin." :)
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@SpongeBathBillI misread it this while time 😂, my bad. Thanks for pointing that out!
@TheTransitDiaries I did! And (with the caveat that you should make the videos YOU want to make) I'd totally be down for a series lol. On top of other open-world crime games, Spider-Man 2018 and the Metro series come to mind 😄
fun fact, if you onto your phone and go into camera mode whilst on the train it goes into first person mode !!!
Thanks!
I'm excited for public transport in GTA 6
I hope they will focus on that - too bad Miami isn't known for its good public transport
Dukes Blvd is based off of the Astoria/Ditmars Blvd station(s) in Queens. As someone who lived in astoria all my life those two stations are always closed for maintenance, good eye on the devs behalf lmfao
That's a great detail! Rockstar has a great sense of humor for sure. Thank you for watching! Super cool to have a New Yorker give some insight!
I'd love to see a video on the GTA3 subway which is pretty interesting.
This is just the greatest video ive watchrd just saying, might try a stupid challenge called "beating gta iv with the subway"
That sounds like a hilarious idea. The idea of a tough mafioso riding the train to a bank heist
Great video, even from someone whos not interested in trains
Thank you!
Yeah, this was the real deal unlike that slow ass tram in V. Btw did you know - there's an hidden emergency exit from the tunnel between (i think) Emerald and Easton station that leads to chinatown. Better check it out, very neat spot with some creepy feeling.
That's awesome
EEPER EST SIDE!!! I never felt more offended as a New Yorker😭😭 Holy Shi** 😂
That was a nuclear level gaffe, my apologies 😅
