This 1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille Was The Ultimate No Compromises American Luxury Car - Plus Incident
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 жов 2020
- The late 60s C-Body luxury cars from GM, and particularly the Cadillac models, were the ultimate expression of full frame and big cubic inch luxury - OPEC and the gas crunch were right around the corner, Federal emissions controls were coming in to play, and safety engineering was changing how cars were built.
But in 1969, when this car was built, gas was 35 cents a gallon, horsepower was the word of the day, and if Americans wanted big, powerful, luxury cars, then GM was going to build them.
This truly was a different world, and Cadillac's "Standard Of The World" slogan was thought of without irony - this was a well built luxury cruiser that could be maintained and driven indefinitely. - Авто та транспорт
This was the best era for Cadillac... just an absolutely beautiful car
1969 was a great year if not the best. I really like those high compression Cadillac V8s. A luxury car should have some horsepower.
1973 started the quality decline and the subsequent passing of the Luxury Torch to Benz, Beemer & Jag.
How much would this car cost ?
I’m laughing my ass off with this one.
Watched the whole thing and belly laughed so hard after your commentary on Dalton while on the turning lane. And then he showed up & hears you talking smack and flips you off, priceless! I presumed you left him wait with the caddy. Just now stopped chuckling.
I would have left him bruised and bleeding with the Caddy, with a real close aproximation of an, [I just got raped by the family dog} look on his face for that move. Followed within the week with a very curtly worded letter of separation in his rectum. No professional business would tolerate that kind of public display of disrespect. Oh yeah, the car wasn't bad either, lol. P.S. I coulda done a better job on the windshield with my backside.
Please hang in there Bill. Your a true classic!!
"If there's hate in my heart, I'm gonna let it out, so I don't push it way down". The most awesome quote of 2020...Thank you Bill!
I've got to have this car
@Rick Weintraub Hilarious that 'hate in my heart is equated with Trump 2020 for you.
What kind of idiot can't make sure the tires are aired up before driving a car?
@Rick Weintraub Have another sip of Kool-aid my friend.
Your hate only hurts you and no one else but you.
I remember when these 1969 Cadillacs were Brand New. I spent a lot of time at a particular Cadillac Oldsmobile dealer in the late 1960's..into the 1970's. The smooth, quiet ride, the cool, quiet, air conditioning the beauty and scent of the Ostrich grained leather. The smooth power of the 472 Cadillac V-8 was awesome! There was nothing better!!!
The local Cadillac dealer here had been in business since like 1910. If you bought one from them they would kiss your ass and polish your knob endlessly. Oh, would madame like to have here hair styled during the oil change? And let use clean the inside and outside and wax the car no charge. Make those whitewalls shine. Please partake of out complimentary smorgasboard as you please. They were a great dealer. Out of business now. The other Cadillac dealer in town was caught defrauding the Feds on parts purchases and they were all thrown in jail.
wow, who would think a 51 year old bias ply tire would not be roadworthy? ;)
I'm happy to see that this incident did not stop you from making more videos.
I'm patiently waiting for a "Best of Bill's Rants" video! The birds, roosters, goats, "Cat Stevens can kiss my ass", the hurricane story with the 78 Cougar, just about the whole video of that horrible BMW electric chipmunk manbun thing. Pleeeeeaase Bill do it!!
What an awesome idea!
I’d like to see that too.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍

No one on UA-cam previews cars better than you! Always look forward to your videos and to visit your website.
I really appreciate that - I'll try to do something with the website to make it worth a visit.
@@curiouscars9282 Yeah, it's true Bill.. You're incredibly entertaining, and sound like a great guy.. You also REALLY know your stuff.. 🏁🇺🇸🏁
It's been a few months and I just keep coming back to this car. Nothing beats a Cadillac. Saw a '69 out in the wild today and it made my day.
Back when GM didn’t half-ass their cars. It really makes me sad
I know what u mean. Ive always loved Cadillacs from my early youth (11) until they started producing s----y nothings (80 thru now). Back in my youth, there was a funeral home on my street, & I would love to see the Cadillac hearses & Cadillac Sedan De Villes, all lined up at the home or churches, from 1958-1967, all matching midnight blue & all the funeral home staff wearing midnight blue attire. Now the funeral home equipment is black, the staff wears black, the families wear black, how are u supposed to know who's who?, but those were the good ol' days & I wish they would come back.
Real wood trim not plastic
I had a hell of a time explaining to my son ; "What happend to american cars ? "
Cadillac started with the garbage plastic fake wood in 1972. They started cheaping out along time ago
@@Ryan2022 regulations, emissions fucked all that up
OMG, your negativity and sarcasm made me laugh my Ass Off! I am sorry you had a bad day and No good Luck. But your comments were funny as Hell! You should of been a comedian! I hope your day got better!!!!!!!
Love how you keep it real Bill. Don’t change a thing! Fan from Australia
18:24 - never change Bill, who you are MAKES these my favorite car review videos
We called it a mood light in the rear interior panels, the back seat was legendary and the power was awesome, had a 1970 Fleetwood and a 77 Elderado years ago. In high school I always had the nicest cars and one great truck. Those were the days.
I was a kid back in the 60’s. Hippies were evil and dirty.. I still remember a joke from back then, where is the best place to hide money from a hippie? Under a bar of soap. Anyway, love your reviews and rants and look forward to the next one.
Right thinkers had crew cuts.
❤good one !
Bill said he wasn't alive in 1969. From the way he sounds and talks I thought he was late 50's or early 60's.
I think he mentioned in a recent video that he graduated high school in the 80s.
He definitely sounds like a very cranky old man.
I was born in 1969, I think he is a year or two younger than me. He definitely smoked his fair share of Marlboros
@@pauli6043 - Well with the way bill always complains about life and the weather you'd think he was a grumpy lonely old man over 60 who likes to wear Hawaiian shirts, with khaki shorts and sandals with socks.
Yeah sounds like a bitter old boomer doesn't he, I can say that as a borderline boomer/gen-Xer.
This is one made me laugh the hardest so far . Great vid
Oh my goodness, this video made my weekend! Pure comedy!
Man, am I ever happy I found this channel. Entertaining AF.
I Remember when these 1969 Cadillacs were brand new in September, 1968, and I was completely appalled at the black plastic instrument cluster! The 1967 and 1968 Cadillacs had a metal, chrome instrument cluster.
However, compared to what GM markets as a "Cadillac" today, the 1969 Cadillac looks better than GM could ever come up with again! Back in 1969, GM gave you a wide choice of colors, interior, and exterior..Not so today!
You sound like Bill's brother.
The 71 GM models was the beginning of the plastic interiors from door panels to the dashboard. That cheapened the appearance. Little did we know 25+ years later car bodies would be made from a new plastic merged with metal that would crack like glass when in an accident.
@@robertpace901 Makes me think of the lousy front fenders on some
early and mid 1990's models in the
name of saving weight. Didn't work.
Mr. Ascot, I remember them too.
In 1970 they replace most of the black plastic with plastic wood. I liked the 1970 dash much better. 1967 Cadillac started cheapening the interiors. 1966 Caddy used real wood, for the Fleetwood Broughams anyway, I think the Devilles were metal.
If the detailer has worked on that rear window with that “fog” and grease left on it, you might consider looking for another one
Please, send one along. I beg of you.
When cleaning car/truck windows the car must be facing into the sun to make sure the job is done correctly. In Florida (Dinoland) you think the detail man would know that.
Curious Cars hi Bill and it is great to see you in the comments. I found your channel recently and I love what you are doing, the cars and the character you give to the videos make all of this really a great content. Keep up the good work, be safe and keep the videos coming 🍻
22:49 Dalton. Orange pants camouflage hat Dalton?
Please don’t forget the dirty carpet dirty steering wheel cover or the nice wire hanging over the escalator pedal overspray on the trunk luck and the mismatch front seats other than that it’s a nice car 🤭🥶🙏🏻
Nice! The floor mats are OEM Cadillac from the early 1960's. The owner must have taken his mats from his trade in and transferred them to his 1969 Cadillac!
Original floor and trunk mats are unobtanium.
*DAMN BILL ! I WOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN IT WAS YOU IF I DIDN'T SEE THAT COOL, CRISP. BIRD FREE BACKGROUND 😂😂 !!*
No Hitchcockian birds on the horizon.
This road test sums up perfectly the year of 1969... stuck on the side of the road with out a spare tire!
Bill, had the same car, paid $1700, used of course, but I loved it!!! Great ride, just like a take with power steering!!
Well I DO date back to when these cars were new and I remember them fondly. In fact, my grandfather owned a '69 Sedan de Ville like this one except it was solid dark blue. Always felt so smooth, quiet and luxurious to ride around in!
1968 was when Caddy switched from the 429's to the 472 engines. In 1970, they brought out the 500 CID engine. Both engines were equipped with a single-plane Quadrajet 4-barrel spreadbore intake manifold. Cadillac introduced the Quadrajet spreadbore carburetor in 1967. What's the wire hanging down under the dash?
2020 has made you more tolerant! With everything that happened to you, you had the right to go off the deep end! Kudos to you!
We have a 1966 Cadillac and love the styling of these cars. Thanks for posting. Glad we found your channel. We are optomistic about the future of classic cars.
What a beautiful car, I wish they would make them like this again. Great narration....
I commented on another review and my great aunt had quite a few of these through the mid 60s including the 69 until 1973. These were amazing cars to ride in as a kid
Excellent car presentation videos Bill! Thank you! Greets from Munich, Germany
Appreciate that! Return greetings from Naples, FL!
Bill you are worthy of a Netflix show. Your narrative, distinctive voice and infectious humour-edy would undoubtedly be a hit. And then there is your car knowledge. All the ‘proper’ stuff that an even wider audience would appreciate. Thank you for sharing your love of the automobile. Best regards from a Kiwi car loving fan.
I love both this guy's videos and the cars. Makes me want to live in the USA and Florida instead of the UK. 1969 I married my first wife.
What a hilarious ending! Dalton to the rescue! I haven't laughed so hard at anything since Bill set off the car alarm 37 times in the Explorer Sport Trac video.
Thumbs up and I haven't even watched the video yet. Thanks Bill
Thank you very much - appreciate the kind words.
Great video, and absolutely hilarious, honesty and humor in a funny as hell package.
Dammit!!! I had a chance to buy one for $2500!!! The same year as this one on the video but in white,Cash!!! Nothing wrong with it but a little body work done here and there!!
How much this car would cost in a good condition?
I live in Naples with all the crap weather and poverty so I laugh my azz off at your comments. Please continue as I binge watch these reviews and enjoy your style immensely!
Poverty?? isn’t Naples like palm beach level?
@@boni_traxton9436 Yes. I was being sarcastic. Cheers!
Bill you would beat the pants off any Englishman when it comes to complaining about the weather.
Us Brits though that Florida was sunny, I think I might go to Norway now Bill.
Welcome back Bill I have missed you. Fantastic review, and a fantastic car to review
Appreciation for the camera angles that Bill provides as he does the introduction and walk-around on each of these excellent automobiles. His eye for the best angles, and pausing on them before moving on allows me to focus on the finer points of style. So thank you Bill for that, and the enlightening history lessons. And for helping me to be aware of the treachery of birds.
some days you're the Dog, some days you're the tire. I learned from an old friend years ago to always look in the trunk. Glad to see you always do that!
Best car review video ever, I was dying of laughter! I love the way you complain, you remind me of a grouchy old locomotive engineer I used to work with on the railroad.
Great video as always! But poor Bill... stay safe, as we need you keeping us entertained and educating us!
Great video as always . Made me laugh out loud. That’s the sort of car I think of when I think of America. Looking forward to seeing the fun stuff you review, I am hoping for a few old Mercedes !!
The crest on the trunk was modified at some point. Originally it would have been mounted with a small spring loaded pivot. You would rotate the crest up to reveal the trunk lock. The pivot and spring probably gave up years ago so the solution was to drill a hole in the crest and glue it back on. I know this because my parents had one, medium metallic blue with white top and while interior. New England winters killed it long time ago with major rust as most cars did back then in the northeast. This one is in marvelous shape, thanks for showing it......................................................Ok, I just finished watching the video, glad to see you stayed safe in the left turn lane. Sorry if I am chuckling at your difficult morning drive, but like I said, glad you stayed safe with all that. Cheers.
This is a real beautiful Cadillac. I love the 69 model year. Thanks for the great video ☺️
Very welcome. I agree there's something lovely about the 69s.
@@curiouscars9282 nice to meet you Bill.. discovered your channels recently. I am physically challenged so your channel allows me to experience things that I wouldn't otherwise. I too have a sales background. Your humor is awesome. Keep it up.
Jesus the trunk size lol at least 10 bodies.
What a beauty! Always keeping it interesting, Bill. A pleasure to watch as always!
MAN! THE SOUND OF THAT STEEL! Good stuff .
Bill, I stumbled across your UA-cam channel a few months ago, and you're absolutely hilarious... I love the cars you sell. Especially the older ones. Keep the videos coming..😁👍👍👍👍👍
Best video ever,,, Sh$t happens, still looked good on the jack that hooks to the bumper and a real tire iron to protect yourself with... don't stop the video's they're great.
From a British admirer. A fabulous car love it ,and you. my boy, are one of the greats. Best.
Welcome back, Bill !!! your videos are always the BEST when it comes to commentary on life, as well as cars! And this car is no exception, it's fantastic!
Once again, you made my day Bill. Love your videos and are always on point.
We had a '71 Coupe DeVille, it was close to 20' long and got 8 MPG.
Wow, the sheet metal clank of that hood and trunk lid! Long time since I heard ones like that. Yeah the durable transmission. Didn't Rolls and Bentley go with some of those?
Greetings from Toronto Bill, I'm all chipper about your renewed channel
Yes, I've heard Rolls used the TH400 trans too back in the day because it was so good. I currently own a '76 Coupe De Ville and recently sold a GMC 1-ton pickup I owned for 30 years with the same transmission. Clearly, the best shifting, most reliable transmission I've ever experienced. My current, and far more modern vehicles aside from the Cadillac, provide better fuel economy, but have annoying shift characteristics. I hope they hold together like the TH400 does.
I love the cars you review and you sir are HILARIOUS! I laughed so hard during this episode and I thank you. Stay safe and please keep doing what you do.
That tire that failed had to be at least a few decades old.
That's why the first thing you should do on an older car is to replace the tires. Unless you're just going to show the car and not drive it, having the original tires on the car are of no benefit as the rubber goes bad over time, no matter how many miles are on the tires.
If you noticed, the rubber was crumbling.
I love the cars you review, but I must say your commentary is by far the most entertaining!
Awesome! My grandfather lived across the street and had a 1969 Fleetwood in triple black. Absolutely fantastic car, and had humongous backseat legroom with footrests. Thank you!
...incidentally, if you want to be stuck with a flat, this is the car! It's gorgeous to look at. Haha, I love your bile and complaints about lazy bums! The Cadillac is wonderful despite the damn tires. Your assertion that these cars were built to a standard and one to last is right on the money. It all went downhill when GM did a wholesale switch to front-wheel drive.
Just watched this and have to say it was the best video I've seen in ages. Thank you. Funny as. Love the car to,
We enjoy your company and comments Bill.
Great Cadillac Sedan !!! Great shape and great commentary . Thank You !!!
This Caddy had the high compression 472 cubic inch engine which could really haul that heavy body effortlessly. The engine was advertised at 375 horsepower, but this certainly wasn't the horsepower as installed in the car!
My parents had a '68 Eldorado with the 472, and you had to work at NOT spinning the front tires in the rain. Massive amount of torque. Wonderful car.
These cars were heavy and had small highway gears. They are pretty slow. I would worry about breaking u joints and engine mounts. They won't spin the tires. Monster torque. My 70 Eldorado is a different story however.
Great vid, commentary and real world experience, was just one of those days 👍🏽
That's a BEAUTY! thanks for this video Bill.😇
G'day from Sydney Australia Bill.
I've been enjoying your videos for some time now. Interested in knowing the full story of what's been going on. I'm easily confused 🥴
Bill you are absolutely amazing, I'm in the UK and found your videos accidentally and am absolutely addicted, they are not just hilarious but you have taught me so much about the 60's 70^s and 80^s Americano which has amazing for cars. What is it with all the wildlife in Florida, is there no animal control your being harassed. I have to get the train to work and it can take up to two hours each way and you make it bearable, keep posting the videos you make my day.
Forget the cat, worry about aligators and rattlesnakes.
What an incredible beautiful car. Nice video. Great information. Thank you!
i enjoy watching your videos, keep them coming!
Love these videos not only do get some good laughs but also see some great cars. Keep up the good work.
😀 another good video my man it’s hard too get good help these days that spare was straight out off the 1970 I remember those thin 2 stripe tires .my uncle had a 1969 cadi coupe Deville it was lavender with white vinyl top white interior ...👍
I could use that car cover the next time I tent my house for termites. Love those big cars
Well arent you a ray of positivity
14:50 I like how the radio is isolated from the passengers with the big dash hump. The passenger really has to reach to adjust it. The driver has complete control over the tunes.
Keep up the good work I love your videos especially on how are you detail the classics
Fantastic car always great to start the day with your voice
You're very kind - thank you.
Your very welcome sir Bill love all your videos and all your thoughts about everything
You're right - the 429 expanded to 472 for the 1968 model year (with nearly 500 ft-lbs of torque). King-of-the-roadmobile.
Beautiful car! How come we can't have cars like this anymore?
Your videos are a great. I enjoy the commentary and the cars. Keep doing it as it is truly entertaining and informative.
Thank you Bill, never a dull moment.
This was my uncle Franny's car. 😳 He was a press worker for a small local paper for years when he got one used around '73...He was so proud when he drove it to work and bragged about having a nicer car than the Chief Editor... 👍 RIP UNC.
That’s really cool! You should buy it back, he kept excellent care of it !
Ah m8!...I never get tired of the humor that comes from your impeccable version of irony. Let's have a few whiskeys a smoke and an endless stream of laughter from a world gone mad.
What a nice car. My grandfather had a 1968 Cadillac Sedan Deville which was the 4-door pillar less which ever you call it. He ran over a firebird in it. He was able to drive the car home the firebird was totaled. It just bent the corner of the bumper. They were tanks. I enjoy your videos. I laugh my ass off. Love the way you describe cars and etc. Thumb up...
Bill I’m such a fan of your videos. Keep up the fantastic work. I come home from work and I immediately check to see if you posted.
I love your videos and your commentary!
Beautiful lines on this car...

Hi Bill, absolutely love this car and your sense of humor is hilarious! I just happened upon this video and I am from Naples, FL and I own a 1969 Cadillac Coupe Deville convertible. I live in Ocala currently but I have driven it down to Naples and it’s made its way back up and down here. This is the same color as mine and absolutely gorgeous! I did trick mine out a bit with low profile tires and rims and a show Quality sound system. I can’t fit four bodies in the trunk anymore, it’s just full of speakers and batteries lol!
