This 1985 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible is Increasingly Collectible and Easy To Maintain

  • This tenth generation Eldorado was the first to be downsized, and one of the few to work right off the production line - this car was good looking. It sold very well despite being expensive, and retained much of what makes a Cadillac a Cadillac - luxurious and comfortable interiors, V8 engines, chrome trim, and all of the other accoutrements that buyers at the time expected from the jewel of Cadillac's lineup.
Now officially collectible, these cars are still affordable, and very enticing based on their simplicity to maintain - just about anything mechanical can be bought at the local auto parts store. Better to move quick, though - while prices still haven't surpassed the original MSRP, they're rising at a pretty good clip, and speculating collectors are putting the best ones away now.
Full review and test drive by Bill - Curious Cars. Vehicle for sale at Autohaus of Naples, on the web at www.AutohausFL.com or by phone at (239) 263-8500.

Bill here is a goat story for you. Back in the mid 70's I was married to this cute hippie girl and lived in a log cabin. My dad came for a visit with his brand new Buick Park Ave. For some reason he parked in the yard and when we looked out the window my two goats had climbed up on the hood and roof. We ran out to scare them off and they slide off with a great deal of his paint following them. It took years to get back into the will.

My goodness! I'm a millenial myself, and I would take an 80's cadillac over most modern cars out there today. I've always loved the look of old-school cadillacs, lincolns, chryslers, etc. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are just mind-blowing. They are the embodiment of the greatness of the American auto industry back in those times. They really don't make cars like this anymore, and its a damn shame!

      A few additions to this:
-In California the Old's 350 was offered 79' and 80' because of stricter emissions requirements. So occasionally now 80' 350 Old's equipped Eldo's will pop up in other parts of the country as a result which confuses some people.
-The 81' 368 which Bill referred to as a "piece of crap" engine was actually not -you could disconnect the "3,6,8" mode with one cable and it ran like a normal 8 cylinder 368, which was a great motor in those (I owned one years ago -wished to hell I still had it)
-82 to 83' were the initial "unfixed" HT4100 motors, easily spotted by their factory chrome valve covers. They actually weren't terrible engines as many people claim. As long as owners didn't pound the piss out of them - which happened a lot to those cars as they were bought by people who were accustomed to the old cast iron big blocks they drove just a couple years prior. And they needed to pay closer attention to maintaining them -which a lot of people in those days absolutely did not.
-84 to 85 were the years GM actually did their "fix" to these engines. Again, different valve covers used depending on the year makes them easy to spot. They still had issues with these motors as well, but many of them were for them same reasons listed above. People were beating the shit out of them and just not maintaining them.
-Ah yes - the 350 converted to a diesel - Christ what a terrible idea that was. I had one of those too years ago embarrassingly. This engine was actually more of a disaster for GM then the HT4100 people like to claim killed Cadillac -it actually didn't fortunately. I'll just stop there -there's plenty hilarity on the internet about the 350 diesel already 😃

Those stop leak pellets actually work. I had to use some in an emergency when my wife's Honda Civic's block cracked (as the 1.8 was prone to do for a couple years). I put a few in there just to drive until the new engine came in and it actually stopped the coolant from leaking out of a cracked block. I was amazed. Of course, the coolant system was flushed before the new engine was put in.

Your goats do one hell of a job keeping your grounds manicured! Beautiful Eldorado convertible. If you keep the oil and coolant changed religiously on the old 4100 engine, for what you use the car for I’m sure it will last a very long time. I worked on many of the 4100 V8’s and the ones I seen last were the ones that had meticulous care.

I always wanted a cherry red hardtop of these with the stainless roof and red leather. There was one for sale when I was looking for my first car, but it was a bit out of my price range and I couldn’t get the extra cash in time.

Good morning Bill and all those at Curious Cars! Just a quick note to say how much I enjoy ALL of your videos! I've decided that I'm going to buy a car from you just because I enjoy your video narratives! Next time I'm in Florida I'll swing by and see what you have in inventory! Until then take care! I adore the drivers POV while driving. Reminds me of my childhood looking out at the crest! :)

My first car was going to be a light blue 81 el dorado with a convertible top. It was my Grammies live in boyfriends car. Story goes he drove it somewhere in Florida to have it made to a convertible. He always wore a big cowboy hat but was a very short man and one hell of a drunk. He would drive us to their land up north Wisconsin with a six pack next to him. The plan was when I turned 16 I’d buy it for $3000 but he pasted months before my 16th bday and his kids came in took the house his cars and sent my Grammie packing. Ahh memories miss ya fritz

Oh no, Bill was spotted in Calf. I heard this morning that Suzanne Somers had an intruder come in her home and the guy said he was running from Goats. LMAO.

Well done again Bill! Beautiful Caddy from the "malaise era". You've got me looking forward to the goat roast, be sure to post the time and place. 👍🤤 I'Il bring along a couple of cases of Bully Hill Vineyards "Love My Goat" red wine which should pair up nicely...🐐🐐🐐

Casket handle door pulls! The first time I heard that expression I thought...My God they are! I wonder if Batesville Casket Co. was Cadillacs door pull supplier?
