There is a saying in my country, at the cost of sounding cheesy, it's the first thing we are taught, "My god and my teacher, while they both are standing infront of me, I am perplexed at the thought of who I should mention first (Touch their feet as respect in our culture). I end up touching my teachers feet cause without them I wouldn't have known God at all." So idk what you are doing wrong, but I am planning on practicing everything you said so far. Thank you for your honest hard work.

Once you learn proper technique, you can increase your speed and power in the correct movement pattern. Sometimes it’s quicker and faster to cheat early on but then you develop bad habits and have to unlearn then go back and relearn and that takes A LOT of time and effort!!

I chose to watch his ads just because this content is so good.
I started boxing 6 weeks ago, 41 and I put on 30lbs. I’m the slowest, oldest guy at the gym but now my boys, 9 & 6, are going too so it’s become a three time a week family event.
But these videos have helped immensely.

Back in high school, the thing that worked for me was a series of 5-6 jabs to the face and then an uppercut or cross to the gut. This simple combo saved my ass through throughout the 4 years. The best thing is when the bully types know that you can fight back they will usually leave you alone.

Certainly a big help for people that want to pick up boxing.
I used to box , used to love it. My trainer and coach said I had so much talent. Stepped into the ring to quick imo. Only 4 months after I started boxing. I froze up. Forgot everything. I've always been a nervous guy and all that crowd. I couldn't handle it..
Seeing your videos I'm thinking about trying again..
Stopped going to the boxing gym but kept training on my own.

Since I've started watching your videos I fell in love with boxing, coming from a karate backgound. Last week I went to my local gym knowing I'm going to spar a couple of guys that has been boxing for a couple of years. To my shock I did really well against them, they actually asked me whether I was taking professional classes😅 I felt great saying no I was only watching your videos!🙂

Technique is everything. If your main focus is technique, not only will you become much better, but it also is an indicator that you are actually passionate about the art and care about being “the real deal”. Another less emphasized part of fighting is tactic. Knowing WHEN to throw technique and WHY you’re throwing it.

Good to know my own boxing trainer knows what he's talking about. He emphasizes virtually all of the tips you covered -- breathing technique, hand position, form, etc. -- every session. I've be doing this for just over 4 months so far, and steadily improving. Need to work on getting more power in my left jab -- particularly double jabs. Any tips you have would be appreciated. For anyone who's been thinking about getting into boxing, it's fantastic exercise, and you're learning a skill while doing it.

Great tips. I will use these thanks. Rocky Marciano threw straight-right followed by a left-hook. He crouched very low to throw the straight-right. He created a massive hip drive (similar to world class track and field throwers) and usually knocked his opponent out. He was small for a heavyweight but this unusual crouching technique worked for him. I understand Tony advising against this generally. Also, I cringe when boxers drop their guard. I remember when Oliver Mcall (?) dropped Lenox Lewis after dropping his guard.

Funny, I checked my right hand when doing left-2-hook, and it seems I pull my hand a bit into my face instead of down. I have mostly done shadow boxing over the last year with as main focus defence, so that might be part of it. I attempted to minimize openings, and if one hand is out the other needs to be in extra tight (also I use my left shoulder to defend left)

Tony I love your videos. I am trying to get into boxing more seriously. I train hard and I want to eventually take some amateur fights. I was wondering if everyone has to go through the same process with getting your first fight. How does that process of taking fights start?

In spite of all the videos you have done on street fights, you have never told us any stories you had while working as a doorman. Can you do a video on any stories you have, and a lowdown of your experience on the doors?
