      @Tony_Jeffries Hello I'm new to your channel. Really enjoying the content. My Dad & Grandfather got me into watching boxing. My Grandfather did it when he was in WWII and his good friend was once Welterweight champion of Canada by the name of George "Rockabye" Ross. All the best with your channel and keep up the great work. I would like to add a question hopefully it's not a dumb one. I was wondering is it always important to pronate your punches when you throw them ? I seem to recall my Grandfather telling me that when he showed me how to use the Heavy bag or am I wrong ?

    Lennox had alot of success with his jab because he kept his hand extended halfway between him and his opponent so it only needed to travel half the distance. He explained it himself in a video on UA-cam.

    You are the first coach I've heard that landing the jab on the forehead, to show the judge and frustrating our opponent. I have thought about why not doing it? But I never really do because around me their is no one do it. I think this really makes sense. Anyhow jab is not for knocking out, by this way, rather than hitting the chin, we can make our jab have more functions.

    Great tips. It’s really about making a solid foundation off of basic principles.
    These are the basic principles for a great habit but it varies on a person’s technique, style, and skillset.
    This is superb implementation but there are great boxers who can push a jab through without focusing too much on speed, then again it’s as I stated earlier about how it varies.
    Excellent video

    Another thing about the forehead jab, when their forehead flies back the chin goes up. Wouldn’t a right hook to the chin be the perfect follow up? Especially if you’d set it up with [forehead jab -> body straight right] twice and then the [forehead jab -> right hook to the chin]

    • @thomashalm8585
      @thomashalm8585 5 місяців тому

      Depends on the guard being used. And you also not using that jab to the forehead multiple times. If not, ur opponent gonna be prepared for it and counter u while taking a "Harmless" jab to forehead.

    I've found a lot of success with switching up the position my wrist is in/ the angle the jab comes from.
    Ie. switching between knuckles facing up, down, outwards - flicking up-jabs, "turning the door knob".
    Makes the jab more unpredictable and much easier to land.

    • @thomashalm8585
      @thomashalm8585 5 місяців тому

      Bro what about jabbing with your index and middle knuckles to make the punch more sharp and painful. I am not really sure. Something i found out??

    • @willis3397
      @willis3397 5 місяців тому

      @@thomashalm8585 Landing the jab with your index and middle knuckles will definitely make the punch more powerful, ideally, but a fight is never an ideal scenario.
      Power isn't always that important in a jab, either. I'd rather land 3-5 quick jabs than one big one.
      Varying your jab makes it harder to predict, paving the way for heavier shots to land.

      MMA, and lesser knowledgeable striking coaches don't teach the same basics in the jab and it shows.
      If you young ones wanna lick up pure boxing knowledge, my advice would be to swerve the multi combat gym and focus purely on boxing.
      it really is the best technique.

    I kinda understand what you mean about power and speed but physics would say F=MA squared. Force = mass × acceleration or speed. You'd think the added distance would create extra speed, thereby creating an increase in power. Makes sense when it comes to strategy, for sure. Better to land it 9 times out of 10 than to exert more power and land less.

    Sonny Liston is the only Boxer I know of who could knock you out with his jab. I believe if I recall correctly it was because he jabbed with his dominant hand, add on his ridiculous 84in reach on a 6ft framed body and you can just imagine how massive his leverage with that jab was, while also being highly unorthodox at the same time.

    What about Jack Dempsey's "lead jolt" - as opposed to lead jab - where he was against jabs (which he pejoratively referred to as tapping, or "painting") and advocated a power lead by using a squared fist combined "shoulder whirl" and with his "drop step" to maximize power and damage? Does it have any place in modern boxing or did it only serve during Dempsey's time and style of boxing for that era?

    I'm looking for advice and knowledge. I enjoy sparring and dabbled in boxing when I was younger. However, I have since lost a leg below knee. What can I do to improve footwork with a prosthetic? Do you have knowledge of anyone who could advise me?

    I know what I’m about to say has nothing to do with the video but I need some help with boxing
    I am a beginner in boxing I have started a month ago when I box I feel my left is stronger especially with the lead hook and sometimes the lead upper cut but I feel more comfortable with my left being my lead hand(using the orthodox stance) should I practice to get used to south paw or continue with orthodox stance
