Maureen O'Hara was wonderful. I love that moment where she appears to be lost in sad memories, then suddenly remembers her daughter is with her and quickly puts on a smile to change the tone.
this has been one of my favorite movies ever since I was a little boy. I always thought during the scene that the mother was still secretly in love with the father despite being separated from him for many years.
I think she has some good memories. I will admit there’s an ex I parted with a long time ago, but some times, there are some moments that pop back into my mind from my younger days.
I actually love that projection background --makes me nostalgic for this age of film :) LOVE this scene and movie, and Maureen obv --thanks for sharing!
I’ve looked online, but haven’t seen anyone point out where that background plate was filmed. In one doc, the Sherman Brothers said Walt wasn’t so sure about this song, but they explained that they styled it after songs from the 40’s, because figuring when Mitch and Maggie would have met (and how old the girls are at this point), they would have courted around the mid-40’s. And suddenly, the song made sense, and Walt approved.
This was one of the first songs that I flipped to in the Disney fake piano book we had. I always found it breathtaking and every now and then I just sing it. 🥰
What park did they Use for the Background Scene it's Beautiful was it in Boston or New York it looks like it was Filmed in the Early Fall the leaves where just starting to change Colors.
It takes place in Boston. Sharon was from Boston. Susan is pretending to be Sharon while Sharon is in California with the father pretending to be Susan. Sharon and Susan met at camp. They discovered they were twin sisters of a divorced couple. They switched places in an effort to get their parents back together.
Always wondered was she just singing this song randomly or was she implying this was the song played at that first dinner date her daughter was asking about.
This is supposed to be a walk in the park in Boston. But according to Haley Mills she mentioned that they didn’t really walk in the park, they were in the studios and were walking on a treadmill looking as if they are walking in the park
Actually just the opposite it all felt way more natural in this one. The remake it looked so forced, corny and predictable. Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson looked like they were forced to get back together where as Brian Keith and Maureen O’Hara made it look so realistic and natural.
+Dsneybuf This was the scene I immediately thought of when I heard. Such fond childhood memories of her and this movie and I couldn't find it anywhere, so I thought it should be posted. :)
Anyone notice that this was a composite shot (I don’t use the term blue or green screen since the sodium vapor process requires neither) until the very end? Seems they didn’t just use it to make two Hayley Mills. My guess is that they sent a second unit to Boston (or some other city) to film the park since the actors couldn’t shoot there in real life. The two people in the final shot that are actually at the park might be body doubles, which is why we only see them from behind.
The composite shot and final shot of the two people walking was filmed in Boston Public Garden. When Susan arrives in Boston, there is a shot of the family car pulling up to the row houses on Beacon Hill which is near Boston Public Garden. I'm trying to remember if there other Boston shots, but it appears Disney sent a second unit to film there.

I was surprised to find that Ms O'Hara's singing voice was as beautiful as her face. RIP Maureen.
you should of hear sing in quite man it was beautiful especially since it was in gaelic which made it even more beautiful

I love this song.
I'm glad they cast Maureen O Hara in this film, that beautiful singing voice can't be forgotten! The Lord please take care of her
Maureen was a very talented singer noit only a beautiful woman and actress
Maureen should have sung more in her movies
I love Maureen O'Hara so much. Such a feisty, beautiful woman.
This is my favorite movie scene of all time. Makes me cry every time.

Bay Bryan Yeah, the sodium vapor process was one of the best compositing methods at the time.
I wondered more about O'Hara walking the treadmill in her heels; so that it matched the real scenes in the park. LOL!!
Myles Garcia A treadmill does explain why their walks are convincing. We could tell if they were merely running in place. :P

R.I.P. Maureen

She died on the day before my birthday two years ago. Now, i got goosebumps.
If you look at Maggie’s eyes when she starts singing, you can see some of the pain the divorce caused.

Today we lost the last of the greats.

Although I like the 1998 version better than the original, this song is beautiful
The original parent trap was ohhh so waaay better than the remake.
@@titaa56 it’s just my opinion

@@mackenziecarl9629 you know, after seeing the original recently, I guess you’re right.
Kind of convenient for you to post this on the day Maureen O'Hara passed away. Did you mean that?
