  • So, so windy!! The beaches were a little picked over (mostly be me and a few other dedicated shellers ;D) so it was either the freshest shells or broken ones. In the end, it was really quality over quantity! There were some lovely shells in this bunch, including a little Textile Cone and a lovely Magnificent Volute. Thanks for watching!
    Let me know which ones were your favourites ;D and if you enjoyed this and want to see more shell finding videos, I'd appreciate a like or a comment. I read all of them and try to reply when I can. You have no idea how much of a smile you guys put on my face. Thanks everyone!

    G'day everyone! Wow, you're actually reading the description? Um, thank you! You will be rewarded with extra content... my Facebook page (link above) is loaded with out-takes and deleted scenes that don't make it into the UA-cam videos. Check out the extra funsies over there if you're desperate for more shelling content ;D

    I didn't even realise that Point Cartwright and the surrounding beaches had such lovely seashells until I saw "Shellcade Shelling Down Under" - I admired him a lot, and you can check out his videos here:

    Another blustery day out there.. That little Cat Cowry is a gem 💎 😍 The Eglantine Cowry is my favorite this time. Really great find! The Textile Cone is another favorite 🤩 They’re beautiful! The Thick-edged Cowry is my other favorite. There’s just something about them.. Great hunt Maddie, as always!! TTFN 👋🏼 ❤

      G'day Mimi 👋🏻💖 Oh yes, the Cat Cowrie is definitely in gem condition 🤩 Ohhh about the Eglantine Cowrie, I've been informed that it's probably an Arabian... I thought I could see the different between these two species by now, but apparently not 😅 still a lovely shell and deserves to be a favourite! So pleased that you liked the Tiny Textile; it's been a while since I've found one 🐚 Ahhh that Thick-edged Cowrie was a favourite too, I really wish that I found more of them to show!! As always, thank you so much for watching 🥰

      G'day Annie 👋🏻🏖️ Oh yes, we have the cowries up here!! I think I've found over 30 different species, though there are still more that just don't wash up to the rock pools 🤔 they really like the warm weather here, I guess 😲? Ohhhh the Graceful Cowries are the favourites 🤩 they really are wonderful little shells. They do end up turning a light grey colour after drying for a while...I think their shells retain some moisture that keeps them looking darker than usual for a while after collecting them. I digress 😅 Thank you so, so much for watching 🥰

    Hello there Maddie, pen shell nice. The eglantine was a very good size. A textile cone with a pink nose😂
    Yes, the Jurassic coast in the UK is on the South coast in Devon or as I like to call it heaven because it is also the home of cream teas - scones with jam and clotted cream.
    It is a good days car journey from where I live in the North west. I think it is fairly easy to pick up a few fossils without too much trouble.
    Loving your final display. Thank you for taking us along. ❤xxx

      G'day Alison 👋🏻💖 Ohh, I think all of the Textile Cones have pink noses...actually, that's technically the back if the shell...so they all have pink butts 😂 I'm not even kidding!! The Eglantine was a nice size, true, though I've been told that it's probably just anl very elongated Arabian; drats, I thought I was getting better at telling those two species apart...they're just so similar!! Ohhhh yessss I wanted to hear about the Jurassic Coast 🏖️ Wait, what's this about cream teas = scones?? I just call 'em scones 🤔 my goodness yes, I do like baking plain scones and then piling on the strawberry jam and whipped cream (I thicken it myself with a stick blender) ahhh and I only make them once a year on Easter. Dang Alison, you're making want my scones!! And Easter is next year 😅!! I digress, forgive me 😅 Wow, it really is a big trip, but perhaps it's worth it for the tea and scones...can't go shelling on an empty stomach after all!! As always Alison, thank you for the kind words, and thanks for watching 🥰

    Great way to start the video with finding those operculums!!! 🎉🎉🎉 I really like that big cockle shell you found. 🐚🐚🐚 And finally an eglantina cowrie. I’m still waiting for the Arabian cowries! 😂❤ My favorites today were the tiny textile cone and the magnificent volute. Another great cowrie day Maddie! Than you! 🥰🥰🥰

      G'day Pam 👋🏻💖 Hehe, I just knew you'd like those Operculums! Ohhh and the big Multi-spined Cockle caught your eye too? It's really quite a large one now that I think about it 🤔 it might be the largest of this species that I've seen? Ahhh about the Arabians, I have been I formed that this "Eglantine" is actually just a very elongated Arabian Cowrie... I thought I was better at telling them apart by now 😅! Alas Pam, the winter time is the best time to get Arabians, but this is the only shiny one I've found. And the last day of winter was yesterday, and we had mid-summer temperature!! How?!! Anyways, I don't think I'm going to have the bounty this year that I had in the two precious winters 🤔 Oh well, I guess it wasn't in the cards for me this time... Maybe I'll get double next winter 😄?? I love your picks for the favourites; they match up with mine 😁 Thank you so much for watching, Pam 🥰

I actually used to remotely tutor the English language to students on an app called PalFish; but unlike you, most of them were beginners. Anyways, I have digressed too much. Yes, rip to the other half, but it had to be done 😂 "WOW" is all I can say to your comment 💖 I feel like this is an amazing pursuit for you! It's wonderful to have a goal, but also a dream to reach for. I'm glad the the ocean can be a passion for you too; it really is a wonderful field of study. I know you will excel in form two, too. The operculums are cool looking. IDK why I’ve never seen one in the wild ever. Of course until I started watching you I probably wouldn’t have known what it was! 😂 The small Pen Shell is better than the big ones. The Eglantine Cowerie was amazing! Love the size! My fav was the Magnificent Volute!❤

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  19 днів тому +1

      G'day Green Thumb Gardener 👋🏻☘️❤️ Hmmm that's interesting to think about 🤔 I wonder if the beaches you visit have any kinds of Turban shells? The turbos are the only ones that make those chunky round white operculums 😲 a lot of other shells will have a paper thin brown operculum, but I've never really found those, even for the common shells. Those Spengler's Trumpets that I find have thin brown operculums while alive, but I've never seen any on the sand or sitting in the rock pools. Anyways!! Yes, the little pen shells are way cooler; so much easier to display as well 😁 Ohh I have been told that I was wrong about it being an Eglantine Cowrie, it's just a very elongated Arabian Cowrie...you'd think I'd be able to tell them apart by now 😂 but I'm with you; it wasn't a favourite today when there was such a a lovely little Magnificent Volute to find. Thank you so much for watching 🥰

    Do you ever find the military turban snail shells? Some of them must be pretty big considering the size of the operculams.
    As always a great way to start a Saturday
    Thanks Maddie ❤

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  19 днів тому

      G'day Donna 👋🏻💖 Oh yes, I very rarely find a Military Turban. They are more common down south, but sometimes they wash up here...they are large shells (or they can be), and don't seem to live in the rock pools here like they do in the colder waters, so having one wash up is rare. I did find a nice small on not too long ago; I got it from a crab in this video: ua-cam.com/video/sW_oiUdkv_M/v-deo.html a very pretty shell! But a fully mature one can be hmmm, maybe 4-5 times the size of the one I found here?? I'm sure I'll find one that size someday 😅 or not? Thank you so much for watching 🥰

      Bright yellow and frilly??? Sounds like either some kind of pacific jewel box, or a spondylus (thorny oyster); absolutely awesome because I don't think I've seen either like that before! For me, oysters are one of the most difficult shell families to research; they are so same-same but varied in their appearances; even within the same species. Let me know if you ever figure it out, or message me on Instagram if you ever want to share a photo and have me take pot shots at trying to name it~ Awww Danielle, I really hope you do get to Pt Cartwright more often if you can... G'day Annie 👋🏻🏖️ Oh my goodness, I think you are far too generous 😳 Thank you so much, once again, for the Super Thanks 🤩 at this point, I don't know what more I can say? This amount of support goes far beyond anything I ever expected while sharing my shelling adventures!! Ok ok, some behind the scenes info 🤔 I think I said most of it in the video, but the beach was picked over by me (it was a really great week for shells and tides!) and a shelling family from northern NSW; lovely people who came here after watching the videos I make. They said they felt a bit like celebrities when I showed their beach bags getting attacked by a crow in a previous video 😂 As for this video, I think it was short but sweet, thank goodness; I only just managed to get it done while getting things done for Father's Day on Sunday, and making a big Hervey Bay trip the day before on Saturday. I was a bit bummed out that this one wasn't longer, but it gave me the time I needed to spoil my dad just a little 😲 Did you other half have a wonderful day on Sunday too? Also, I've been having about the crazy weather down south...mostly in Melbourne, and I know you are still far away from there, but I hope you guys are all right? @SandCoffeeRocks  19 днів тому +2

      Thank you once again 🙏🏻 Haha, yes, they were up from a place in NSW that I was thinking to visit with my trusty swag in hand. It's only a four hour drive away, so a lot of shells between there and here are the same, but I guess it was the differences that made them choose here as a family holiday. Ahhh as for Sunday, my dad doesn't like shells, so I didn't take him out shelling (plus the beaches here are ridiculous busy on the weekend with the close proximity to Brisbane). I wanted to take Dad out to lunch and/or dinner, but he refused both; saying they would also be too busy. I insisted a few times, but I may have strained my foot after Hervey Bay the day before (it was swollen for a while, but better now) so when Dad refused again, I just decided to have a lazy day with my foot up on a chair 😅 I have hopefully talken him into a rainchecked Father's Day lunch tomorrow, though!!
