The legend goes that Eddie Hazel, the guitarist, was told to play the first half of the Maggot Brain song like he'd just learnt that his Mum had passed away, then to play the second half like he'd found out that she was actually alive.
Ween actually pays tribute to Eddie Hazel with there song" a tear for Eddie" from the album chocolate and cheese. It's basically just a 4-minute long guitar solo but I want it played at my funeral.
Idk If you wanna get more into jazz but I'd recommend The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady (1960s chaotic jazz) and Journey in Satchidanada (1970s spiritual jazz), they just seem like unique albums outside of anything you've really listened to on the channel
0:38 Maggot Brain 3:55 Can You Get To That 5:38 Hit It and Quit It 7:42 You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks 9:32 Super Stupid 11:42 Back In Our Minds 13:07 Wars Of Armageddon
Aww yeah. Love it. Definitely need a reaction to “Hot Buttered Soul” by Isaac Hayes “Santana” by Santana And still want to see a reaction to “Little Earthquakes” by Tori Amos. This needs to happen
Hey Smagatron love the vids you are honestly the funniest and most entertaining reacter out there. I've been wanting to see listen to Fontaines D.C.'s Skinty Fia for a while now, I think you would love it. Have a great day Smagatron
Recommendation time: Time n Place and Bonito Generation both by Kero Kero Bonito. While I do believe that Time n Place is a better album, I also think it’s important to start with Bonito Generation just to see what Kero Kero Bonito’s sound first started as. This’ll make the emotional impact of Time n Place much more potent :) Great vid btw as always!
This album RIPS, so freaking funky and weird I love it Parliament's Mothership Connection is also definitely worth checking out, Parliament & Funkadelic were essentially 2 different bands made up of the same folks... Parliament is more traditional horn based funk, while Funkadelic is more psychedelic funk rock, but both are incredible
Legendary band! One of Ween's primary influences, if you couldn't tell from the zany eclecticism and shredding guitars. They even have a tribute song to the lead guitarist, Eddie Hazel; "A Tear For Eddie", from Chocolate and Cheese, with to my mind the definitive version being the one on Live At Stubb's.
Album recommendations: Waiting to Spill- The backseat lovers When we Were Friends- The backseat lovers Something you needed- Flipturn Shadowglow- Flipturn Songs- Adrianne Lenker Unreal Unearth- Hozier Close to Paradise- Patrick Watson Young Americans- David Bowie Everything so far- Pinegrove RMCM- Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners Good For You- Houndmouth The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We- Mitski
Smags delivers once again! 🙏 Amazing album with some of the greatest guitar playing I've heard to this day. If you really enjoy guitar playing like on the title track I'd love to see you check out Flood by Boris. One of the chillest and dopest rock albums ever. I think you'd really dig it. Much love dude! Keep up the great work! 🙂
Yes yes YES!!!! FUNKIN LOVE FUNKADELIC ! Also maggot brain refers to the feeling of playing without any limits or traditional stylings, just improvising and playing what you feel emotionally. Just shredding and letting go
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MY GUY a few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
That's because it went mainstream Hardcore maggots at the time who preferred the acid hendrix inspired rock couldn't get into one nation and knee deep.at first just like some parliament and bootsy fans couldn't get into early funkadelic The band would perform maggot brain or cosmic slop and red hot mama not knowing these were real records
I am again recommending A New Place 2 Drown by Archy Marshall. It's a little more chill but has some of the best production I've ever heard with immersive instrumentals that just take you. Need headphones, though.
Your boy is a day late but we move. I really do believe that you’ll like Bloc Party’s “A weekend in the city”. If I know you right, anyways 😅. Keep it up Smags 🙌
Listened to it for the first time recently. Can you get to that fucking stunned me. Now I’m pissed i went this long without having listened to it. Awesome album.

Best part of this album is when them jawns started farting in the last track 🔥🔥
For sure do “Free Your Mind” next. The band recorded and cut the entire album in a single 24 hour session while high on acid.
Recommendation time:
Time n Place and Bonito Generation both by Kero Kero Bonito.
