That ending was actually a secret reprise of the earlier song "we have heaven" - and NOT actually part of Heart of the Sunrise. Back in the day they listened to entire albums and that end only makes sense in the context of the whole record.

If anybody thinks that's bad, they should hear "Knife Edge" on the first side of ELP's debut album. A modern audience cannot appreciate the terror of your tape deck eating the tape your friend loaned you, or the record player destroying its needle on your delicate vinyl album. Those 3 guys knew how to terrorize an audience!

I love that! "Active listening". Yeah, YES is not "background music" (unless you don't need to concentrate on anything else). I've been listening to them for 50 years, and their music seems to get better the more I listen! The remasters have made them better still. Phenomenal band. Try the Close the Edge album. 3 songs..."Close to the Edge", "And You and I" and "Siberian Khatru". Do yourself a favor and listen in order. Thanks! I'll be watching for more YES!

My tip (for private purposes, not for the channel): Listen to the live album “Yessongs” (it takes about 2 hours). You don't have to be stoned to take off and have a wonderful trip.

  • @jstock2317

the end of this song is the 2nd half of a short piece earlier on the vinyl.
this was the last song on the album, so the end of the song is when it stops, and if you dont pick up the needle fast enough youll hear the "secret" reprise.

Love your reaction. I don't know if this is your first YES experience? There are so many amazing YES tunes that will truly change your perspective. Try YES's 'Close to the Edge' -- the studio version from the album of the same name -- widely thought to be the best progressive rock song... ever. I wonder how it will seem to you. Cheers!

YES is the greatest progressive rock band in my opinion. I just subscribed. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them as will many other YES fans so keep them coming. Loads of greats including "Roundabout", "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "Close to the Edge", "And You and I", "Turn of the Century", "Starship Trooper", "Perpetual Change", "The Revealing Science of God", lots more.

  • @wendellwiggins3776

CORRECT! Music is a product of IT's TIME and we TRPPIED a lot in the 70s' and there was NO BETTER band to see & hear LIVE, TRIPPIN than YES!!! There was NOTHING & NO OTHER that COMPARED to YES and their competition was fierce but THEY DOMINATED the ProgRock genre from 71-77 and took your Heart & Soul the distance each time through the FULL spectrum & capabilities of MUSIC! They were truly a GIFT from the Most High of SOUND Vibrations! LMAO!!! FYI, that last sudden part was a REPRISE from an earlier song called, "WE HAVE HEAVEN", abruptly added to give a last jolt of 70's TRIPPIN style SHOCK & AWE psychedelia!. I doln't know how far along you are with YES but they've created a DEEP RABBIT HOLE of ADVENTURE to explore. This was just a tiny taste!!!

This is the last track on the album. There is a point earlier in the album where a door opens, there are footsteps, then a door closing, which leads into the next song. Both the door sound and the song at the end are a reprise back to earlier in the album.

@@StonedChakra It’s a classic album. There are five solo tracks on the album. Each member has a solo composition. The thing at the end was a reprise of the singer song which appears earlier in the album. The first track ‘Roundabout’ is a really known song.

Progressive rock is awesome. It incorporates jazz and classical music into rock music and usually has lots of change ups in the music with crazy time signatures. YES were masters of this. Genesis, Pink Floyd and Emerson, Lake and Palmer are also worth a listen to if you enjoy this kind of music. Great musicians making great music. Peace to you, Stoned Chakra ❤

You’re absolutely right about active vs passive listening. Astute observation. You need to actively add more YES to your listening time. You won’t be disappointed if you stay with the 70’s. There are some good ones past that, but honestly you can’t go wrong with the best decade of YES music. Let Close To The Edge fill some of that time. Considered by many progrock fans to be a PERFECT ALBUM.

Don't dispair. Some pieces of music have to be heard many times before they make sense (in my case, HOTS was partially just carefully disciplined noise, to me. It was awhile before I understood why it was there and how it joined the piece together. It's exactly like listening to a symphony by Beethoven. EXACTLY.

The song was over when the music stopped. You went into the last track, a reprise of an earlier track called "We Have Heaven".
And yes, I suspect that it was done to jolt people back to reality.
The Yes album's that are worth listening to are the ones from "Yes" 1969 up to 1980 and the album "Drama". After that, I lost interest in them because they changed so much.
Their very best track was "Close to the Edge" a conscious-altering Prog' Masterpiece from 1972.

Yes was an interesting band. The lyrics with chosen more for how they sounded then actually what they meant literally. But there was a message in there and it was vague enough for you to relate it to your life. Yes might have been the best at creating visual imagery and expressing emotions through the music that tied to the lyrics. It was as if the music filled in the gaps to the vague lyrics where you felt the message instead of having it spelled out for you in the lyrics.
