    Lukather’s 80’s tones were amazing. The solo on “I’ll Be Over You”, I chased that tone forever. He’s one of the best studio guys ever!

    Luke’s playing on Middle Man is awesome . Kingdom Of Desire is a criminally underrated album ...I could type for ages . Saw him once in Birmingham-travelled from Glasgow -brilliant night with a brilliant band .

    • @oldguitarjames9303
      @oldguitarjames9303 3 роки тому +1

      Totally (Toto-lly?) agree on 'Kingdom Of Desire'. I suppose its only failing, for some people, is that is sounds more like a Lukather solo record than a Toto record. He sounds stunning throughout and the band really kicks arse. It's tragic that only Luke and David Paich survive from that line up.

    • @daviddalziel884
      @daviddalziel884 3 роки тому +1

      @@oldguitarjames9303 it’s the only Toto album I own , probably as you say it’s a very Luke album . Ever Changing Times is probably my favourite solo album and that was just out when I saw him in Birmingham.

      Yes middle man was a great album! I wasn't aware of toto at the time I heard the album but Luke and jeff paich and Steve porcaro names would show up on many albums to follow!

    It’s because of musicians like these guys I haven’t quit social media entirely. Those that can, do. Those that can’t, criticize. Lukather needs to perform - let’s hope that live music returns.

    Looking forward to this. Unfortunately, I’m not always familiar with lots of musicians.
    But when I searched for Steve Lukather’s work, I just randomly clicked on Toto’s “Georgy Porgy”.
    And…Yes…Yes! WOW !!! I definitely remember this music! ❤️.¸¸.☆

      I met him in a transit lounge whilst we both waited for our connection. We spoke for a long time, I purposely did not mention music, guitars etc, just regular shit that regular folks discuss. He is exactly as he is here, maybe a little quieter! I strongly suggest checking out Toto's first self titled record which 'Georgy' came off. Average age of the band was 18 & their first record is incredible.

    I just don’t understand why/how ANYONE can have an issue with Steve Lukather. He seems like a super nice guy - totally grounded and self-effacing. He’s the real f’ng deal in the studio... he’s been on everything worth listening to. And if they still had head cutting contests HE IS A BEAST - he would level pretty much any other player - he’s just surreally talented.

    part of the reason Joe gets good stuff from his interviews is they all know from hearing him perform that he is ALL about the music and because of that they are comfortable in that place and able to mind melt together for a great conversation..Luke is on my Mt Rushmore beside Danny Chet and Eric Thanks Joe and man I have 88 elmira on a tape loop in my brain...hehe..

    I wonder if there's ever enough time for Luke to get all of his thoughts out. Every interview I've ever seen is this way, and he doesn't do it to step on anyone, he doesn't do it to dominate, he doesn't do it on purpose, he's not repeating himself, he's just trying to communicate everything that's going on in his head. But it still makes me think, how many hours could I have a conversation with him before he said, "And uh... well... I guess that's all there is to say."

    I love great acoustic guitars and REALLY love moderately priced/high quality ones. Luke can buy any guitar he wants, probably get most any guitar given to him and he has a Yamaha hanging up behind him. I have Yamaha Custom Shop L15A from the 90's that is an amazing guitar.
    On the other screen is a guy who tours with Les Pauls that cost more than my house. Which is also cool.
    Luke is one of the best you will ever see. So is Joe. Awesome.

    Another incredible interview by JB. Years ago I had a great privilege to work with some amazing players and the one thing that always struck me about the 'best of the best' was their humor, humility and intelligence. There are always notable exceptions, lol. Great to hear Lukather's take on his experiences over the years and taking about coming up during a. time and place where so many of us attended the 'school of hard knocks.' It's the rare player who can make it and thrive over decades in the business (and yes, it's a business).
    JB is a very gifted interviewer and I find myself looking forward to every interview. They spoke of some of the young gifted players out there. JB (if you're out there somewhere reading this on the interwebs), Tosin Abasi would be an amazing interview. Very, very intelligent guy and a player who is pushing the boundaries of the instrument. A JB / Tosin Abasi interview would be one for the ages.

    I get that it's a conversation between 2 (in my opinion) great guitarists who have their own sound and style,... both of which I enjoy. But,... and I'm most likely the minority here,... it feels like I'm eavesdroping. Not being able to join in and ask questions I care about is tough,... cause I do have questions about gear, how to get certain sounds,... solos,... stuff as a guitar player I want to know,... and it's frustrating. But,... hats off to Joe,... I got to meet him at a vintage guitar show awhile back (maybe he remembers I gave him a hand made guitar pick holder?)... he was gracious and took a pic with me! Joe is the type you feel comfortable asking if he could jam with you ( I almost asked, but we had a show that day and I had to go),... Steve is the guy I would like to have over for dinner with other guys like Joe, Ringo, Tim Peirce,...Vai, Satch,... just to hear the stories!!

    Luke is the most genuine person this planet has ever known.As a musician that is 11 months younger than Steve, I cut my teeth on everything the members of Toto were on like many millions of us,any criticism towards any musician in toto or any people they played for are critisisms by people who should keep their mouth shut they aren’t musicians and have no idea what it takes to be one .When critics can write as many tunes and produce as many tunes and play with some of the greatest musical minds the world has ever known then maybe those idiots can have an opinion .

    LOVE Luke. Truly, he's one of my all time big influences. And, I could care LESS about the criticism he gets for his comments. Unless you are the type of person who 1.) Has done THOUSANDS of sessions for other musicians under VERY strict deadlines 2.) Has to stick up for an AMAZING band who is CONSTANTLY knocked sideways by idiots/moronic critics/former bandmates ( and the occasional widows ) and 3.) gets constantly roasted for speaking FROM HIS EXPERIENCES even though he has been in the music business LONGER than all of the critics combined, then you don't get to belittle him for what he stands for. People who rag on musicians ( be it Luke, Frank Zappa or even Gene Simmons ) for speaking from their heart/from their experiences are simply swimming in the garbage they create. Thanks Joe for clarifying on this in the beginning. I've been in the media for over 30 years now and seeing people rag on experienced musicians/stars/community leaders/the general person on the street ( for speaking from their heart ) is so beyond a WASTE OF TIME ( and I'm seeing this business change for wrong reasons that viewers themselves are NOT aware of ). Luke has the right to say/experience life they way he sees fit. And, if you are one of those critics who hate Toto, I'm willing to make a VERY large bet that this band is on albums you crave. Stellar show Joe, as always!

      I really believe Steve sometimes rambles because of his hearing problem, at least that’s what I think but I love Luke & love listening to him.
