DSM lifter replacement without cam removal

In this video, I had just finished replacing my lifters, so I went back and demonstrated on one of them. Please excuse the shaky camera, it sometimes requires two hands which made the demo a bit harder. How do you make the lobes go up and away from the lifter? In a sense how do I move the camshaft?

Im guessing turning the engine throw the cam shaft bolt on the side

hell two of my lash adjusters you can just pull em out with your hands.. both intake valves are not closing .. Dont know why yet. Just found out.

If the cam lobe is off up and the valve is open then the valve is probably bent

Can you run engine with top off. To check how lifters are working to find out which is bad ??

How do you know your lifters went bad, im about to tear my valve cover off, any indicators, im guessing u need a new valve cover gasket as well when you replace it??

You need a go pro on the top of your head. Would be a whole lot clear to see exactly step by step what your doing.

This is how I lifted mine last night. I used a flat tipped screwdriver on the first 3-4 then used a door jam tool but it was the same result. Nice.

Hey can you also pull the valve springs using this method? Or would you need to remove the cams

Think you’ll need to remove the cams for valve springs since you need quite a bit of pressure to replace the retainers for that hold the valve stems in place. Best to try and avoid making mistakes when doing engine work

Pretty sure I have the same exhaust manifold as you.
How did you get so much clearance around your head? Mine is practically touching on the 2nd from left runner. Had to dent the tube to get it to not touch lol
