Fun fact: Although virtue gems are often attributed to mount verusso and the beast, the description of the Geomantic gyre, an unique staff, says that the first virtue gem was given to the mortals by titans, this could suggest that there is something in the world of Path of Exile that may have been the primal source of this power, predating even the beast itself! The titans will be appearing in PoE 2 as we have seen in act 2 from gameplay already available. I made a video about this ;)

@@The-Lore-Weaver i'd disagreed with you, the flavor text said the staff was given by the titans, but nothing imply the gems were also given by them. The staff might be ancient and the vaal has it with them when they mined the first virtue gems from the beast. If virtue gems did exist prior to the beast then it would break the history of virtue gems entirely.
It is actually implied that the first gem was given by them: the timeframe of the events of the fall of the titans aligns with the proto-vaal civilization, much before than the rise of the vaal empire. at that time, gods already existed, and after the fall of the titans, actually, we see the feats of Lunaris and Solaris against the Lightless. this indicates that we are talking about a past with gods who were not in slumber due to the power of the beast. The vaal empire rised much later and at a different geographical location, now, saying that the staff was passed on ages until it reached the vaal, now that is an implication not made by the item and any other text. In my opinion, this does not break any part of the story, it just shows that everyone thought the beast was the prime source of the power of the corruption. PoE2 is here to show us that another seed of corruption was found, and another beast is being created ( this is confirmed in the last Q&A I think ). The gems, like the beast, are the fruits the same source of power, of corruption, which is probably rooted in the depths of the earth - no wonder so many characters hear whispers from the depths, and also, since the titans were situated in the depths of volcanoes and magma, it would make sense that they would be able to "tap" into the power of gems while also controlling the downside of corruption.
Fuck, and the giants blood keystone mentions the titans too... Now that I think of it, gemstones hold power beyond gods themselves, as it let's mortals not only challenge and defeat gods but the cosmic entities of the Atlas too.

This is perhaps the best video I have seen from you so far!!!!! Super interesting! I do not know much of the lore, though I wish I was able to hear it after walking away from an NPC...

Loved the video. Also, wanted to point out that PoE lore is based on the actual story of Australia and New Zealand. It was colonised by the Britannic Empire and used as a dump for the prisonners that were overflowing the prisons in the main land (thinking they would die there, but that part failed). So people were literally exiled there, and had to deal with an incredibly dangerous environnement, as well as the natives. I'd even go on a stretch to say that Sin and Innocence could represent the evangelicals that went there and tried to convert (and massacre) the native population, technically "putting their gods to sleep". Most of the gods lore is also based on the natives' religion and mythologie (that you can also see in Moana, the Disney, btw). There are probably a lot more connections I don't know about or didn't notice (the map of Wraeclast is also very close to an actual map of New Zealand and the neighbouring lands), but I love them. :)
@@elohel3293 The massacres and general genocide of the arborigens are very documented events. I have over 500 hours in poe and until the first 60 seconds of this video, I thought Wraeclast was the name of just the beach areas that the campaign starts in.
I adored the format. The storytelling through breaking it down to bite-sized pieces was interesting and easy to follow, without being overwhelming with minor details and nuances. As a PoE lover for 10 years now, I was aware of everything showed in the video, but I was intrigued to stay and watch the whole thing. Can't wait for the next ones. If you want some feedback for the upcoming videos, I'd say throw some more text on the screen for us adhd'ers. Lore places, entities, characters, etc. should have their name displayed on the video in order for us to follow the storytelling more closely. It would certainly make the context of the story more concrete and memorable. Thank you for the effort, keep it up!

Slight correction: We know for a fact that the beast was created before the fall of the Vaal, as we have numerous references to them mining their virtue gems from its hide and Doryani wounding it (creating the opening we use in act 9 of PoE1). The Eternal Empire was founded on the power of the virtue gems, the beast mist have predated them for them to use its power to rise to prominence. Virtue gems are crystalized divinity. As gods felt asleep - their essence was captured in crystalized carapace of Beast. Vaal was first to discover Beast and started mining it. 3:14 The best way to wield virtue gems is actually to embed them onto your flesh, just that this method has soooo many downsides. Sticking them onto your equipment is the safe way to wield them.
Damn this was good. We covered the Vaal, Eternal, Karui, and Templar in this but what about the Maraketh? Why are they not foundational lore? I think a 5th video examining the ethics of the player’s character in this story as a protagonist would also be helpful for some people to understand the difference between a God Slayer and a hero, and which, if not both, we are. I also think there is ample room for collaboration with meme build creators like Mathil and his ilk to create themed characters like a Kaom themed marauder, etc, and re hash details of that relevant background lore through the lens of character creation. The link between lore and itemization is fundamental for good ARPG design - something in my core wanted to wield the sword in the stone, and something about holding Kaom’s axe scratches that itch.
I've started over plenty of times trying to get into this game but the Trade Recipes concept keeps throwing me off and I get frustrated and end up quitting. This should help me catch up in time for PoE2. Thanks, from all of us, man.
I really hope they turn up the lore to a thousand with a much more fleshed out story in PoE 2. I know it has never been the focus in PoE games but think it could elevate the game a lot.
8:55 Well the player Templar got exiled because he didn't really vibe with the rest of the order. His voice lines throughout the game also sound like he really believes in purity and Innocence and is not interested in all the thaumaturgical stuff, outside of just trying to survive with virtue gems like all the other exiles. I think he's a chill dude. I mean yeah there's the slavery problem and other systemic issues, but I mean, compared to Malachai/Piety/Dominus he's basically a saint.
I never realized how much of the lore I've absorbed through osmosis while playing this game. I always skip all the dialogue, and pretty much ignore all the conversations for the most part. After 3k hours I guess it was inevitable that I would learn most of these things. Props to the writers of the game for sprinkling lore to every system of the game allowing even us ignorant buffoons to pick up on the plot lines.
Also, Beast created before rise of Eternal Empire. First to found Beast was Doryani - serving Atziri. On very fall of Vaal Empire, and before rise of Eternal Empire.

I needed this. I played POE1 for 300 hrs and I don’t have a clue what’s going on.
I've started over plenty of times trying to get into this game but the Trade Recipes concept keeps throwing me off and I get frustrated and end up quitting. This should help me catch up in time for PoE2. Thanks, from all of us, man.
that thumbnail brother
i have no idea which one, I am using three VERY DIFFERENT thumbs. Was it the Atziri one lmao
@@TalkativeTri ye atziri O.O
Great production
I really hope they turn up the lore to a thousand with a much more fleshed out story in PoE 2. I know it has never been the focus in PoE games but think it could elevate the game a lot.
The footage looks incredible in this!!! Is any of this from PoE 2? I don't remember seeing any videos like this in PoE 1
The snippets from PoE2 pop up when I discuss PoE2, yes :)
when are we getting the next one ; ; ? I want to hear more and share with my friends coming into poe2
He also straight kills innocence because he sees him as not the god he thinks he was. The templar is loyal to his cause if nothing else lol.
@@Deminese2 it was always super weird to me that you kill innocence, and then in acts 6-9 he still talks about god and stuff.
POE lore and world building is underrated because of the nature of the game been mostly game-play cecntric

Much appreciated
Also, Beast created before rise of Eternal Empire. First to found Beast was Doryani - serving Atziri. On very fall of Vaal Empire, and before rise of Eternal Empire.
great video!
Hi @TalkativeTri it would be good to link all the videos in this series together to be able to get to the beginning no matter which video you get into first and to be able to see the next one without the need to open your profile and search for it.
Thank you for all your content!
The lore is amazing i hope we still get those godlike fights ctfu
man i cant get enough of dark fantasy, it shows exactly what mortals are capable of given a motive and chance.
did ggg ever produce lore books? if not they should make hard cover collector books with illustrations
