A season in which the car was badly built due to having all the electronic ripped out of it.

They put full focus in 2009's car already in May 2008 when they knew that their current car wouldn't achieve anything meaningful. On the other hand current top teams, McLaren and Ferrari, were fighting closely for 2008 championship and they had to focus on that car all they way until the last race.

When Michelin left F1, the tyre war ended and the Bridgestone Control tyre was introduced in 2007 (his first year at Ferrari). Also, in-season testing was restricted during this period, making it much harder to change the setup through a season. These Bridgestone control tyres had massive understeer over one lap and early stint in a race. This is PRECISELY why Kimi was so bad at quali after Michelin left - he could never get the fronts warmed up over one lap and suffered from terminal understeer. But in the races he was peerless. In 2008, one of his worst seasons, he still set a RECORD FOR MOST FASTEST LAPS IN A SEASON (10). That is insane. Much quicker race pace than Alonso or Massa at Ferrari. This was because the balance of the Bridgestone tyres shifted midway through a race, and as they became more worn with lighter fuel the handling shifted away from understeer. Again. Narrow performance window, but when you hit it, Kimi is unstoppable. When Kimi returned to F1, Pirelli had a soft tyre but after the tyre changes at Silverstone 2013, Pirelli imposed a MUCH HARDER tyre with tyre pressure and camber limits which severly destroyed Raikkonen's driving style. Before that tyre change, Kimi was second in the WDC. Suddenly, Kimi was having handling problems again, and until today the Pirelli tyres have remained the same. 2014 was the combination of ridiculously hard tyres, with a pull-rod front suspension (that purposely induces understeer, clearly suited for Alonso's driving style which requires minimal front end - used only on 2001 Minardi before that), and a rookie engineer Spagnolo who was fired. One look at his onboards will show how many handling issues were in that car. Kimi Raikkonen's peak at McLaren, with Michelin tyres was just scary. He would have EASILY won the 2003 and 2005 WDC if not for horrible reliability and bad luck, and his work in a McLaren for half a decade is as good as any driver I have seen in his era. To me, his peak was better than anything Alonso ever did. And for that I put Lewis 1, Kimi 2 THEN FERNANDO 3. Considering how Fernando, in a car he loved, in an era he loved, lost to Trulli in 2004 and was generally always slower than Kimi on raw pace.
Brawn GP is the best debut win just because it was a new team. It is the only team to date to win every championship they entered. Max's was great having only free practice and qualifying to get used to the car. It's an amazing feat, just not as amazing as a debut championship in my opinion.

If there is a debut win, that one is most likely. But my money is on Vettel, it will be close to Hamilton until summer break and than Hamilton flies away for a dominant 6th title. Not enough changes for this to change. Maybe Honda is the ingredient for Red Bull, I don’t think Renault will close the gap. Maybe there can be a big crash at the front like in 2005 that led Webber fighting off a Toyota Corolla to score points on debut. Something like that could maybe give Ricciardo a win if he keeps his nose clean, and then after the celebrations find an excuse to disqualify him like his first Melbourne podium.

They definitely strike me as the "people's champion" of F1. Teams will come and go, the top spot will rotate between front runners, but nothing will ever replace the spot Brawn GP holds in the fans' hearts for the sole season they completely owned the sport.
My top 3 are: 1. Button - because they didn't even know if the car would make the grid before the season, so the turnaround was incredible for that!! 2. Verstappen - Just because at his first race in RB while he was so young and still learning the ropes and he did an absolutely incredible job holding back Raikkonen racing firm but fair to take the win. Yeah it may have been helped in part by the 2 mercs taking each other out but NOBODY would have had a chance without misfortune hitting Merc! It was still a solid drive and a solid effort. 3. Raikkonen - He did an incredible job all through the weekend and completely nailed the race! And I'm a Ferrari Fan. Also Hamilton did an incredible job to get a podium in his very first race that weekend too!
For drivers, the only true debut win is Giancarlo Baghetti's and for teams, Walter Wolf Racing in Argentina and Brawn GP. All the other teams and drivers had already competed in Formula One at any time. Title can be misleading.

Shut up you mug. Alonso absolutely destroyed Raikkonen when they were team mates at Ferrari. He'll never be half as good as Alonso and was lucky to even win a title. Alonso won his 2 titles on merit and should arguably have had at least another 3 titles to his name.

Alonso got lucky in 2005 (Kimi's car kept breaking down) and in 2014, as did Ricciardo with Vettel, since Kimi HATED the regulations after Silverstone 2013 when Pirelli fundamentally changed their tyres. Read Brundle's last paragraph first. "Kimi has speed, but not Senna's application". What does this mean and why mention Kimi? First of all Kimi Raikkonen is a driver who has a much narrower performance window than Fernando. Kimi's ultimate speed is quicker than Alonso, but not as adaptive. That doesn't change the fact than on MICHELIN TYRES (remember this), Kimi was totally unstoppable. His manipulation of the front end of the car from a driving perspective allowed him to preserve his rear tyres and carry far more corner speed than any other driver I have ever seen. EVER.
Kimi needs his front tyres to be up to temperature and to have minimal understeer in the car to allow this highly specific driving style to work. When Michelin left F1, the tyre war ended and the Bridgestone Control tyre was introduced in 2007 (his first year at Ferrari). Also, in-season testing was restricted during this period, making it much harder to change the setup through a season.
These Bridgestone control tyres had massive understeer over one lap and early stint in a race. This is PRECISELY why Kimi was so bad at quali after Michelin left - he could never get the fronts warmed up over one lap and suffered from terminal understeer. But in the races he was peerless. In 2008, one of his worst seasons, he still set a RECORD FOR MOST FASTEST LAPS IN A SEASON (10). That is insane. Much quicker race pace than Alonso or Massa at Ferrari. This was because the balance of the Bridgestone tyres shifted midway through a race, and as they became more worn with lighter fuel the handling shifted away from understeer. Again. Narrow performance window, but when you hit it, Kimi is unstoppable. When Kimi returned to F1, Pirelli had a soft tyre but after the tyre changes at Silverstone 2013, Pirelli imposed a MUCH HARDER tyre with tyre pressure and camber limits which severly destroyed Raikkonen's driving style. Before that tyre change, Kimi was second in the WDC.
Suddenly, Kimi was having handling problems again, and until today the Pirelli tyres have remained the same. 2014 was the combination of ridiculously hard tyres, with a pull-rod front suspension (that purposely induces understeer, clearly suited for Alonso's driving style which requires minimal front end - used only on 2001 Minardi before that), and a rookie engineer Spagnolo who was fired. One look at his onboards will show how many handling issues were in that car. Kimi Raikkonen's peak at McLaren, with Michelin tyres was just scary.
He would have EASILY won the 2003 and 2005 WDC if not for horrible reliability and bad luck, and his work in a McLaren for half a decade is as good as any driver I have seen in his era. To me, his peak was better than anything Alonso ever did. And for that I put Lewis 1, Kimi 2 THEN FERNANDO 3. Considering how Fernando, in a car he loved, in an era he loved, lost to Trulli in 2004 and was generally always slower than Kimi on raw pace.

Brawn GP is the best debut win just because it was a new team. It is the only team to date to win every championship they entered.
Max's was great having only free practice and qualifying to get used to the car. It's an amazing feat, just not as amazing as a debut championship in my opinion.

If there is a debut win, that one is most likely. But my money is on Vettel, it will be close to Hamilton until summer break and than Hamilton flies away for a dominant 6th title. Not enough changes for this to change. Maybe Honda is the ingredient for Red Bull, I don’t think Renault will close the gap. Maybe there can be a big crash at the front like in 2005 that led Webber fighting off a Toyota Corolla to score points on debut. Something like that could maybe give Ricciardo a win if he keeps his nose clean, and then after the celebrations find an excuse to disqualify him like his first Melbourne podium.

Brawn GP season was nuts to behold. Truely a legendary season.
They definitely strike me as the "people's champion" of F1. Teams will come and go, the top spot will rotate between front runners, but nothing will ever replace the spot Brawn GP holds in the fans' hearts for the sole season they completely owned the sport.

My top 3 are:
1. Button - because they didn't even know if the car would make the grid before the season, so the turnaround was incredible for that!!
2. Verstappen - Just because at his first race in RB while he was so young and still learning the ropes and he did an absolutely incredible job holding back Raikkonen racing firm but fair to take the win. Yeah it may have been helped in part by the 2 mercs taking each other out but NOBODY would have had a chance without misfortune hitting Merc! It was still a solid drive and a solid effort.
3. Raikkonen - He did an incredible job all through the weekend and completely nailed the race! And I'm a Ferrari Fan. Also Hamilton did an incredible job to get a podium in his very first race that weekend too!
Brawn was the fastest in testing though

For drivers, the only true debut win is Giancarlo Baghetti's and for teams, Walter Wolf Racing in Argentina and Brawn GP. All the other teams and drivers had already competed in Formula One at any time. Title can be misleading.
