Aerate Topdress Overseed

  • Aeration and overseeding is the typical routine for fall time in cool season lawns. This year, I decided to add an extra step of topdressing with sand. This accomplishes 2 things: filling the aeration holes (helps with drainage, root development, etc) and helps level low spots and bumps in the lawn.
This is something commonly done with lawns that are mowed with a reel mower. After this I decided to do an overseed with some good grass seed.

I have a question I am going to level my yard with sand in about two weeks. I have probably 4500 ft.² total to do my yard is very uneven so I will probably need like 6 tons to do everything.
My question is when a truck comes and dumps the sand and you fill it up and spread the sand. What happens when you go back to the pile and you still have further to push but that’s like 70 feet away? Meaning when you put sand back in it won’t the sand come out and it’s just going over where you were just going with the spreader to get to the other part of the yard. That doesn’t have the sand yet , thanks let me know
