Andrew at Lanzie just hooked me up with the 44" tow behind spreader. I was concerned about delivery time since I need to be spreading in 2 weeks and turns out it's 2-3 days delivered to Northern NJ. Called me back after hours the same day I left a voice mail. What a great company. Can't wait to hook it up to the tractor and start spreading.

Two suggestions: 1. I have found decomposed steer manure works better over seed than any other material (these are sometimes referred to as manure spreaders). 2. Put a few moderately large stones in with your compost to help break-up any clumps.

@@TheLawngineer I tried using the smaller version landzie with normal topsoil(1cu per bag great gardens premium from home depot). 1 bag would only cover like 14 feet and because the topsoil is moist and has alot of the junk(wood) it didn't spread evenly easily without rolling it back and forth and getting the junk out every 1 bag used. Last year I tried spreading Black Kow manure with the Landzie. Unfortunately, the bags were in an area that allowed them to become wet😱 I tried to spread it anyway and it was a disaster. Never again! The dry topsoil spread nicely Only use dry material!! This year, I bit the bullet and bought my favorite compost. 30 bags at 2cu. I did my entire lawn and still have maybe eight bags left. Love my Landzie!

Thanks for the video. It was very helpful. I was looking at one of these at our local hardware/big box store. The seller told me they wouldn't work on compost (or in my case, fine tope soil). "it is only for spreading seed." As a result, I did what you did, spread it with a shovel, which also moved some of the seed as it hit. Not the grass is coming up and I see many bare patches. Also, like you, I used an awful lot of soil. I've regretted my decision to not give it a try.
I've looked for videos to get a better idea and found yours. I've already done 1500m2 (about 14000ft2) but I still have 3 areas to do (1000m2, 450m2 and parts of 600m2). This weekend I will go buy a similar product, since Landzie is not available in my area.

You can use top soil, but make sure it’s dry. If it’s too wet and clumpy, it’s not going to work well. Also, you can use for sand too, but you’ll have to work fairly quickly since it will come out of the holes much faster.

I have an acre and last year rented an EcoLawn 250 to top dress 1/3rd of it. I had 30 peat, 5.5 cubic foot moss bags. If I tried spreading that by hand, I would have died! The EcoLawn made a job that would have taken me a 4 days by myself into 4 hours. It actually took me more time to load the huge bag (2 1/2 minutes) than it did to spread it (2 minutes). I *really* want to buy the EcoLawn 50 (cheaper, pull behind version), but it's still $3k.
While this device looks nice, you'll be spending a huge amount of time loading. I could only fit half of one of my bags in and if I had to guess, I'd probably land up spending the equivalent of ten minutes loading. Also, you're bending down to do it, which will be hard on the back. I'd love to rent it out to see how right or wrong I am. $500 is a lot cheaper than $3K, but if you've ever used the EcoLawn like I did, you wouldn't want to use anything else.

I'm one of those that purchased the Landzie product because I didn't own a riding mower that could use any tow behind product to spread compost. Anything else was inefficient at the time I was looking. The Landzie product saved me from dumping and raking (hours and hours of work). Still, it takes me longer to fill the basket than anything else.

My front area is roughly 1,000 square feet. I used a bag of seed that was 7lbs....said too cover 2300 square ft. I know I won't have perfect results immediately.

I try to get bags that are at the bottom of the stack at the store when they are stored outside. They seem to be drier. The bags used in this video were stored indoors at the store, so they were never exposed to the elements.
Even though the packaging is relatively water tight, there seems to always be a hole that allows moisture into the bag. Seems like the moisture is what causes the clumps. I’ve had to break up peat before too. If you only fill the Landzie halfway, it should tumble around and break most of it up.
