I got this as a secondary bag to my main daily driver, Aer Tech Pack 2. I use this whenever I need to go anywhere else after work, like the grocery or the mall, when I need to pack lighter than usual.
@@Nomads.Nation exactly what I thought. My Tech Pack 2 is big enough to haul my daily tech gear to and from work. But if I have a few side trips I prefer carrying a much lighter bag. I know, I know The Travel Sling 2 is not small, but it is lighter than my Tech Pack 2 :D
Same here. I've been using this for the last few years for my One.5 setup. It's perfect companion on long haul flights. I've got snacks, water, camera, tech pouch, tissues, lippalm, headphones, kitchen sink and the plumbing too :)
I've been using this bag as my daily driver, and I'm genuinely pleased with the material aesthetics. One thing to mention is that compared to older Travel Sling 2 models, the new ones have fleece/felt lining on the quick-access pocket. It is, in fact, a big and heavy sling. It's simply a backpack with better quick access. For public commutes, you basically have a backpack-sized bag in your lap. But the overall design and organization makes it a good EDC bag for me.
I travel with this bag frequently. It’s the size of a medium backpack. But ultra comfortable because it’s way less confining than a back pack. Great organization.
I think the value of a sling comes from the quick maneuverability around your body which comes in handy for public transport, airplanes, etc. If you don't have far to walk/carry the bag then you might put up with the uneven weight in exchange for whatever you need that carrying capacity for - water bottle/light jacket immediately come to mind.
I can see a use case for it: whenever I travel, I carry a roll on suitcase and the peak design 10L sling. The sling I use for my tablet, id's, wallets, and more importantly camera and lenses that I want to keep near me. Sometimes the 10l sling feels a little small.
4:10 slings should definitely be that big. I have a worn out belkin sling from about 10 years ago that is very similar in size and shape. This looks to be a good replacement
I had this sling and ended up selling it… great organization and AER quality, but… when fully loaded it ended up being very uncomfortable… I guess that it’s the problem that all sling bags have if heavily loaded… backpacks are the way to go if you’re carrying a lot of stuff… great video Aaron, as usual 👍🏻
Aaron I am curious as to why you did not .ention the 5.11 Tactical LV10 sling. This AER sling is almost an EXACT replica of LV10. I have had an LV10 for over 2 years and the differences are: Emergency access BACK EDC panel for protective gear and it has a water bottle holder that will hold a 36oZ Yeti Metal bottle. The price is about the same. It is heavy when packed out but the beefy strap compensates for it. There are so many bags out there you could not possibly get them all but this is worth looking into. It was my daily carry throughout East and West Europe for weeks great bag. Thank you for your reviews they are great and always entertaining and informative. Best of luck with the launch!! I hope you sell a million.
I moved from the 5.11 Tactical LV10 to the Aer Travel Sling 2 after upgrading my 14" MacBook Pro M1 to the 15" MacBook Air. The MacBook Air fits perfectly, where the LV10 wouldn't work. Having said that, the Aer is my daily work to home bag, as well as travel bag. I use the 5.11 Tactical LV8 sling as my EDC around town.
I think having those external attachment straps are a thing that you don’t think you need till you need it. I have a topo mountain sling with lash straps and its def come in handy for attaching a jacket or sweater when it randomly gets hot, or if I pick something up and need to make room inside the bag.
Thanks Aaron for helping me decide a highly functional somewhat large sling that can fit 14 inch company laptop, or even my 15.6 laptop, for work days or any other everyday mobility occasions :D
i’ve been using this bag as my daily throughout my journey of nursing school and this back has a ton of space and is super comfortable however it does max out quick so finding the right accessories has been the struggle. tbh i wouldn’t mind a little more space lol. also, going from back to front to access the bag is pretty seamless. awesome review!
My daily driver, excellent bag: - Very comfortable despite size for a sling, even when full - Sits flat on your back size - Easy to sling to front to access entire bag, even while walking - Only sling ive found thay fits a 16 inch laptop (let me know if theres others) - Compression straps great option for carrying bulkier items (eg. rain coat, towel for the beach) when needed, without increasing overall footprint of the bag - Great easy access pocket with soft lining - XPac version is water resistant - Luggage passthrough makes it a dream with rolling luggage, with all compartments orientated correctly Would have been nice to have had: - Separate compartment for laptop, like the tech sling 2 - Water bottle compartment on the side where compression straps are - Detachable key solution
I travel for weeks at a time. I use the Peak Design 45 L backpack as my carry-on and I also have the Aer Travel Sling 2 X PAC as my personal item. Obviously I cannot use the Aer bag as a backpack. I carry it briefcase style. When I get to my destination, the backpack gets stowed away, and I use the Aer bag for day trips and such.
oh, i was thinking the same. aside from my laptop i usually carry this type of document size as well. have you reached out AER? i sent them an inquiry about this but i have yet to receive response from them
Thank you very much for the thorough review of the travel sling. It was the decision maker for my purchase! I've been using the sling for work, and the main packing content includes a 15" Asus Zenbook, 12" OnePlus pad 2, an Alpaka tech pouch for all my peripherals and other small items. Absolutely no issue with fitment. I do agree with your assessment that the interior lining of Aer is lacking severely, and I regret not going for the x-pack version. The key link is also quite annoying (Alpaka does it with magnetic detachment). However, there aren't many sling-type bags on the market that fit a 15" laptop. I'm happy with the travel sling but do you have any other suggestions?? Perhaps Travel Sling 3 to be released soon??
I have one of these that I use a daily driver, I switch off with a more traditional Waterfield Bolt and Bellroy Via Brief (So I have black, brown, and grey options). The big sling form factor works for me cause I have a big 15.6" work laptop that won't fit into the tech sling. I commute everyday on crowded trains so backpacks are not a good option as you have to take off a backpack to sit and stand or squeeze into a packed train of people. I'm a bigger guy so a bigger sling isn't so bad for me, and my backpacks are like minimum 20L, any smaller and they look like a little kids backpack. The Aer Travel Sling is probably my biggest sling by internal volume, but I think my Defy Insidious actually has a bigger footprint on the back, just less depth. I probably wouldn't go any bigger though, for more weight than a laptop, umbrella and lunch, you'd probably want a backpack or duffel.
Wish they would make this exactly as a backpack… I like the side orientation of it when it’s sitting on my luggage but its to big to carry as a sling when fully loaded up.
Do you have any backpack reviews when it comes to best backpacks against pickpockets during travel, good enough to avoid having to wear the backpack in front?
Hmmm.. Already have the Max 3 X-Pac (not to mention 2 other sizes) but this intrigues me... holding me back is the single strap and I'm 5'5.... not sure... but your reviews are tops as always..
I’m looking for a sling type, but as I have a MacBook Pro 16” I ended up with this. Is there a better option that is smaller sling yet fitting and protecting the 16” laptop as well? Thanks
The 10L Pacsafe Vibe 325 is another good alternative I reckon. Probably as large as I'd go in terms of size, and with plenty of anti-theft features. It actually fits my 14" MBP which is handy, though it's freestyle in the bag and not in the dedicated tablet compartment so I gotta be careful not to bump into anything! 😆 I do feel that while it looks like a great product, the Aer TS2 reaches that point of "too big for a sling".

Why doesn’t anyone talk about the fact that unlike a typical backpack, you don’t need to take the bag OFF to get into it. I love Aer, but to be honest ballistic nylon or XPac are not great material for slings. Render the sling too stiff IMHO. I’ve gone from Aer Day Sling Max to Bellroy Lite 6L to Bellroy lite Mini to Alpaka Flight Sling. There’s really little point in getting big slings to carry all your gear. Better off using a backpack for such requirement - coming from an old man with bad back and shoulder. Slings should be kept to being minimalist and lightweight.
