The monthly costs seem crazy high. $280 APU, $160 license/permit, $20 a month to use company app. Seems Prime is out for themselves and not the employees. The $280 APU a month fee, is that the fuel cost or something else? I thought Cable companies nickle and dime us to death, Trucking companies have them beat by a long shot.
What is your current average pay per mile from Prime? Sounds like they are at least getting better rates now because when I was there my average to the truck was only $1.80/mile.. Fuel was much cheaper so I saw a lot of $2,5-3,5k take homes but the money to the truck was much much lower. My average income to the truck was in the $4k range almost never over $5k but fuel was in the $1k/week range but interestingly enough my truck cost was nearly what yours is. It was around $1,2k (this was 2017-18) I did rough math from your numbers, it appears you were getting $2.70ish average per mile? Is that about right? If so that's way better than it was when I was there. Even at today's fuel prices that rate per gallon is better than what I was making then.
I'm 3 weeks away from finishing my TNT. I plan to drive for JB HUNT once I get my 90 days of experience with TNT. Prime just doesn't pay enough to justify miles you do and I've learned during TNT that I like to run hard.
Moe, are you using a business bank account or do you just have your profit going in to your personal account? and how are you taxes calculated each week? are you doing that or does abacus let you know what you need to pay?
I’m not a trucker but I’m looking for a career change. After watching you, I want to encourage you to keep up the good work. My advice would be to maintain your confidence and don’t be scared of pulling into truck stops. If you need to, keep studying the videos about backing up. Maintain your patience. Your first month is impressive in terms of gross income, despite the incidences. However, if you plan to take more time off, obviously your gross income will decline but you will still have the fixed costs. My question to you is why didn’t you become a company driver to figure out whether you could stand being away from home for long periods before you jumped all in and leased a truck?
This is why you never lease a truck. Thanks for posting this honestly and openly. Prime was a pretty good company back in the ‘80s and early’90s when it was all owner Operator but then they started this lease purchase scam.
@@moestransport my advice to you my friend is to buy a truck on your own terms without involvement of the company you lease on to as soon as you are able. The payment on a brand new well equipped truck with a warranty is less than half of what you are paying them and you would have equity after paying for it for a short time. I understand you are getting your feet wet and learning the business, and I would never criticize anyone for doing that. I’m rooting for your success.
Yea I agree. I'm in TNT but I'm going company. The cost going LEASE are not justified. Also being stuck in their fuel system of just pilot, TA or Loves isn't good. Because the smaller truck stops are cheaper. 2. The truck is too expensive. A $70,000 truck at a horrible interest rate of say.. 14% over 3 years.. is only $2400 a month.
