    Matx boards are everywhere… and I don't understand the lack of love for them. The average user don't need that many expansion slots and mini itx is a bit expensive

    • @komi1834
      @komi1834 5 років тому +14

      "a bit" it's not just the board, cases are more expensive, and you need higher capacity RAM modules if you want more RAM instead of just getting more modules, 32GB RAM, Strix B450 motherboard and miniITX case with good airflow and good GPU and cooler support, you are looking at 300+ bigger price probably

      100% Agreed!
      mITX allows for the bare minimum to build a functional system in the smallest format possible, but it comes with a price: literally because everything is just more expensive, practically because building in really compact cases becomes a struggle if you still want good performance with a large graphics card, good cooling, a reasonable amount of storage...
      uATX solves all of that: the boards are pretty much existing ATX boards with a few slots cut off at the bottom for the same price or slightly less while still having 1 or 2 extra PCIe slots on top of the one for your graphics card, power for the CPU is usually better... And the cases aren't much larger than the mITX ones that actually allow a performance system plus you can put a RAID pair of 2TB 3.5" HDD's in them for the price of the one 1TB SSD you'd have to use in a mITX case.
      ATX: Why? MultiGPU setups are a thing of the past, PCIe SSD's have been replaced with M.2 ones, onboard sound has come to the point you need an external DAC to actually improve... The only thing one might use a PCIe-card for apart from GPU is maybe a 10Gbit LAN or a WiFi card, which you can also fit in a uATX system.
      I would actually like to see an enthousiast case that allows for an open loop CPU+GPU water cooling system and at least 2 360/420 radiators for overclocking+silence without wasting space for an (E-)ATX motherboard nobody needs.

    Is mATX really that much of a niche market these days? With multi GPU setups getting more expensive and having poorer support than ever, you could argue that there's really very little need for a full size ATX motherboard now. I guess you could argue that mini ITX will support a single GPU setup just as well and result in a more compact build overall, but mATX offers more space to work and more versitility with cooling options.

    • @komi1834
      @komi1834 5 років тому +1

      mATX is for noobs in building PC's or someone who doesn't have enough budget to go miniITX, i mean NZXT H200i and InWin A1/A1 Plus are great cases, but not nearly as budget friendly as this, plus with miniITX you spend more for motherboard and more for RAM i you need more than 16GB of it, I'm not a noob builder and i love InWin cases, but in Europe those miniITX ones are too much for me,

    • @Bungle

      It's a shame to see mATX fade. I just got a new case for my six year old Asus Maximus VI Gene. I still love it. I'll never need more than two PCI-E slots anyway, and I like the proportions of mATX motherboards and cases. They look better. mATX doesn't force me to sacrifice any memory slots like ITX either. I'm going to keep this CPU/motherboard combo going as long as I can.

      The case is built to counter that problem :)

    • @ForeverDoubting
      @ForeverDoubting 3 роки тому

      You could be on to something but I think it's more due to the whole airflow in that particular setup.
      It's not that the radiator is preventing airflow (it is, partially of course) I think it's more to do with that being nearly the only source of forced air the GPU gets and since it's such a huge GPU, it's only getting it partially where it needs it (at it's own fan intakes all the air going above the backplate doesn't do you much good).
      Because the other two case fans form a bit of a shortcut, only going over the CPU and then getting pulled straight back down.
      If the radiator fits at the top that would've been a better spot I think, then put the two case fans at the front bottom to supply the GPU.

    This is a good, thoughtful review, but the GPU temps in your review lead me to believe you could have set it up better. I assume your CPU radiator was used as an intake, and it looks like the radiator was almost touching your video card. You could have tried the radiator on top and used it as an exhaust.
    I also found that the exhaust fan speed is important in my mATX case. I lowered my exhaust fan so that it almost touches my video card and I set it to run 100-300 RPM faster than my intake fans. GPU temps dropped noticeably. I have a different case but it's the same basic design.

    • @yongkangfunnyzvideo

      @@devhxpg not at all. It's actually only good for cpu temps as the cpu heat gets into the radiator which the fans blow into the chassis. What this does is it preheats the intake air which will result in poorer temps for your gpu vrms and so on.
      However if you set your aio to the top as exhaust , the rest of your component's temps will be much better but at the cost of a higher cpu temp as all the heat in your chassis passes though the radiator.

      I got MB511 RGB, got it for 58 pounds here in Serbia, Cooler Master stuff is cheaper than in UK at least 10%, but it's too open, like this one, so it's noisy, i sold 3x RGB fans for 34.5 pounds and bought 2x airflow optimised Chromax Noctua fans in 120mm, they are quieter and push quite a bit more air at same rpm than same fans like this front fan, just mine were RGB version, and back fan is better, quieter and better airflow, but still not close to Noctua fans, i got mATX motherboard anyway and 4 pin Chromax spliters from Noctua, also Chromax extension cables, so less fan headers on mATX is not a problem anyway.
      Now i don't know to get this case or NR600, I do prefer smaller cases, but I worry a bit about GPU temps, will use aircooler so intake will be cooler than with front-mounted AIO, but GPU might get quite warm which I don't rly like, well I can always just buy more Noctua fans and get lower temps with brute force of superior engineering I guess.

    I have built two systems with this case. It gets pretty dusty and will be noisy if your components are noisy. Heck you can hear it while he's talking. If you have quiet fans and components, especially at load, then you are ok with noise. The dust though can't be managed really unless you put filters over the intake fans. but that reduces airflow.

    I thought RGB was a silly gimmick until I saw it in my new build. I bought stuff that happened to have it like a Strix B450 board, the Ryzen 2700x stock cooler, and the trident DDR4. Wow. It looks so nice. I get it now. I am considering air coolers and a Noctua U12S is top of the list so far, but no RGB. I am also seeing some products that have focused on pretty, but their thermal performance has actually suffered (cough CM cough, but not in this case -- pun intended).

      Cooler Master MA620P actually cools quite nice, it's just not as quiet as noctuas, but you can put 3rd fan and then run them at lower speed, i personally removed all my RGB becauze it was distractingand got myself some Noctua Chromax fans

      The case has four SSD mounting points... two in the front (on top of PSU shroud) and two in the back... it comes with a pack of little pegs that you screw into your SSD, which then pushes into rubber grommet holes on the case that hold the SSD with frction on the pegs... I own this case and the system works very well.

    Any particular reason to put a 750W PSU in this sistem? HDD space is absolutely claustrophobic. Even you tested the scheme without the cage with HDDs which are going to die by heat shock anyway.

    • @wolfshanze5980
      @wolfshanze5980 4 роки тому

      I don't know why anyone would use an HDD in 2020... that's 90s tech, but if you insist on ancient technology, you can literally put a 120mm or 140mm intake fan right next to the HDD cage for direct air cooling on those ancient drives.
      Theres also four SSD mounts and of course you can use NVMe M.2 drives on your MB... so there's two generations of technology breakthroughs of storage drives you can use over spinning HDD platters.

      Price per GB for example?
      Meshify C with 3x Noctua NFS12A PWM in the front and one case factory fan on the back (positive pressure build).
      MB: B450M Pro4 (I've mentioned this because the M.2 WD Blue is in contact with it)
      + 1 TB A-DATA SSD (don't remember the exact model)
      + 3 TB Toshiba P300 HDD.
      The concept here is/was (1 year latter):
      1. Fast boot of OS and launch of software (M.2 WD Blue 500 GB)
      2. Gaming (fast load of the games + larger volume projects to load from the software on C:)
      3. P300 HDD for long-time storage of finished projects and first degree of backup.
      In all the cases, the predominant heat came from SSD stuff + MB to which M.2 is attached - fast, but not very cool solution.
      Hope to see, after another year, a 3TB SSD storage for 50 USD. Cheers.

    • @wolfshanze5980
      @wolfshanze5980 4 роки тому

      @@childrolland sometimes you get what you pay for... a HDD is the cheapest per gigabyte for a reason... it's very old and very slow technology. Maybe 10 years ago your argument would hold water, but you can buy 1TB SSD drives very cheap, even NVMe 1TB drives are around $100 these days.
      The Chevy Spark is the cheapest new car you can buy and is the cheapest mile per dollar you can find. That doesn't make the Chevy Spark a good car. I mean sure, the Chevy Spark (HDD) will function and is cheap, but once you're used to a Camaro (SSD) or Corvette (NVMe) that Spark starts to look like an embarrassing drive.
      Anyone used to the performance of SSD and NVMe drives just doesn't go back to HDDs... not in 2020.

    I got the Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 3.1 for a budget £470 AMD build but the airflow is really and I have to leave the front panel off otherwise it over heats. Otherwise the case is okay but no real room for upgrades. I might go mini ITX soon. Is this case better then the 3.1 Lite case? Also I have to say that this case reminds me more of Fractal Design cases then NZXT but I think this might get more airflow then NZXT. Could you compare the temps to the NZXT mid tower that most people use (I forgot what it's called) and the Fractal Design micro atx case?

    Practically no one should be buying full-sized ATX boards now. They just don't make any sense for the vast majority of people who will only ever install one graphics card and leave the rest of the slots empty.

  • @evilhamsterzz

    I have been looking for an M-ATX case since the start of last year. None of them really interested me until I saw this one, its a bit strange how in 2019 a mesh front is considered innovative compared to a TG or solid front, since when I built my first PC in 2012, mesh fronts were the norm and only a few cases had solid sleek fronts, like the Define R4 eventually the H440i.
    I have kept the Corsair C70 I have had since that first build even though I upgraded from a Ivy Bridge ATX build to an M-ATX Ryzen build a while ago. The case is fine, however a bit too large, which is why I have been looking for M-ATX cases. Recently I have bought the 5700xt from AMD so a case without a "choked" front design would go a long way into making that thing quieten down a bit. I was considering a CM Q300L but since most of the front panel is steel there is not much point for my needs. Since this thing is mesh and not steel in the front I am hoping to get decent airflow through the case.
    Cases looked really nice when tempered glass was a premium option and was not the norm as it is today. Now it feels vastly overdone and cases are looking more and more similar to each other every-time a new case comes out. Finding a case today that would be a net benefit to upgrade to compared to my C70 has been getting more and more difficult each time a manufacturer decides spend more time implementing RGB than designing a box that can have air travel through it. The only real benefit right now to upgrade would be to have a smaller case, and if I wanted a smaller case with good airflow I really might as well go and buy a used smaller case from the time when cases didn't have choked fronts.
    So that is why I have been hoarding my C70 for so long, and to finally see an M-ATX case comes out that ticks most of my boxes, the extra price doesn't seem to bad.
    I really hope to see more case innovation in the future, companies are getting a bit too cozy slapping a slab of plastic, metal, or glass onto the front and calling it a design.
    M-ATX is a really nice formfactor. Personally I think Mini ITX is a bit too small and restricting for what I want from a platform, and ATX is far too large, I really don't need 3 to 4 16x PCI-E slots.
    With M-ATX I can have 4 RAM slots, dual GPUs, M.2 NVMe SSDs, decent OC support, and options for many SATA drives. Most of the benefits of a full size ATX but in a smaller package, in a case that I would actually want to put on top of my desk.
    The problem with M-ATX seems to be finding a box to put it in. It is sad to see such a good platform be ignored.

    It looks darker than expected. On some photos it has a grey sheen.
    That's, simply put, sh**, because I want a white case, and I increasingly think pure black cases look like garbage. (I have a black case myself, I need a change.)
    However this is not nearly as bad as the glass window trend everywhere... If there were at least an option for a side-mesh more commonly, this would improve cooling everywhere and skyrocket the possible options one can choose without much worry about that factor.
    The absolute worst are those that let the graphics card choke in horizonal position to a glass window. This is, I think, for sadists who like to observe suffering. And reports are also that this heats up the window and by that the whole case... A few years earlier this would never have happened, and there would be a mesh there instead. This position (parallel to a mesh instead of facing downwards) is accidentally especially good for small cases like ITX and some Micro-ATX.
