Only a dedicated glow engine collector and modeler would do this. Can you just imagine any youth of today going through all that preparation to get a model boat going? Nah.... They just want to plug in a battery, lol. Great video, outstanding model boat and engine! Thank you for sharing. :)
+xKmotx Thank Tom !!! I hope that some people who plug a battery in a plastic or depron model today will discover tomorrow that construct a model from A to Z with his own hands it's not bad too!
I am 17 and I just finished building a 30" model bost using a frog diesel engine. I greatly enjoy starting it and tinkering with it to make it run better. I openly admit that many young people today deserve their reputation. but please, please dont expect us all to be the same.
I had one of these Atwood outboard motors on a model hydroplane about 60 years ago. No RC then, had it on a long fishing line and ran it around in circles. I still have the Atwood motor. Great video, especially the part shot from the boat!
Nice model. I bought a very similar motor new when I was a young kid but could never get it started, although I tried for hours at a time on many occasions. Finally gave up. Don't remember the make/model, but have always wondered why it wouldn't run. (I remember that it had 2 black mounting screws with little grooved disc shaped knobs that you hand tightened to secure it to the stern of the boat.)
Excellent project. Both Boat and motor have a well paired retro look. Reminds me of a Chris Craft my father owned. Although that was an inboard with a 25 h.p. backup motor on the transom.
Beautiful setup and detail for this scale model. Always wanted to see this motor perform and its just as cool as i imagined. i feel that some scale dock bumpers may be a good addition for pool use, and will help save the hull for more of those "oops moments" lol. Keep it up!!
I remember building that model a long long time ago.... I used a bit larger electric motor, 6 volts I think,, I couldn't afford the outboard. I don't know what ever happened to it.... Nice.
I love the way you are using the electric motor for all purposes, slowing you down, giving even more speed and retrieval, are the propellers contra rotating?
It`s so cool that it`s the tiny outboard motor powering the boat. It`s not something you see very often! Do you have any engines with adjustable throttle? Beautiful boat btw.
+tipetu Thanks! At this time, Thunder Tiger (3.5 CC) ,OS (3.5 CC too) and K&B (from 3.5 to 16.4 CC) produce outboard engines with RC carb. Check this video, you will see some other vintage outboards at the end... ua-cam.com/video/vS30hQZgNiQ/v-deo.html
+robot797 Of course! In the pool, I guess the speed is maybe 4-5 kph full ahead without the help of the e-motor. The boat is about 1/12 scale (55CM for 6,60M) so the scale speed is ok. I think it could reach a 8-10 KPH speed on flat water and a good run up but no more. The boat is very heavy, about 1250 GR (3lbs) and the engine is only 0,8CC!
I am sorry to yell you this but the only solution to the problem if your boats speed is to get a bigger pool. You must have very considerate neighbors to allow that noise. I have to leave my suburb if I want to use a nitro engine. They allow electric though
Cool video but for one the pool is too small too use the boat in really & the second thing is i wouldn't of used the boat in the pool as it will leave a film of oil on the surface of the water it would be fine if the water in the pool was dirty & needed draining but using it in a clean pool not good.
Retrieval is always a good thing, especially on the Alligator tours NITRO airboat... there is no way to retrieve that when engine dies, other than get another boat, but hope to god that there is no wind.
Beautiful boat! .... but I must say having two motors, one in reverse to slow the boat? kind of spoils the aesthetic. Probably should just have an electric outboard (imo).
Thanks Ivan, the challenge was to run a boat powered by one of this noisy wonders from the 50's : There are some videos of electric outboards mounted on boats but a very few (maybe none?) are showing a boat running with a .049 IC O.B. The back up motor is a must ! it's not visible when sailing and allows to retrieve the boat stalled in the middle of the lake : moreover, it adds a substantial power to increase the speed!
Is the boat a kit model? If so could you please tell me its name, I've wanted a boat just like that. It reminds me of my childhood when my grandpa had a real boat very similar,
It's a vintage kit, check the first video : ua-cam.com/video/ITmxL2jqbZI/v-deo.html A similar kit is available : www.ebay.com/itm/333940736464?epid=1300196506&hash=item4dc06b41d0:g:pJkAAOSwKlxgY9wa
But surely that's a GLOW engine? I mention that as it appears to have a glow plug....... There are glow engines which run quite happily on fuel without any nitro. I take it they would be described as no nitro engines?
I cheat and use one of those electric starters on mine. Use to use string to start it like the manual says to but got tired of winding it.......great boat, and again today's kids wouldn't go thru all that.
Hi, I have a Fuji engine I know that you need for your collection! Their where only ten made and I still have the working one they sent me back in 1966
Hi Chris Finally I bought Atwood wen-mac .049 outboard www.servimg.com/view/18320119/114 www.servimg.com/view/18320119/115 Someday I start testing, first add heavy graise into flex shaft. How does work water cooled? ... the water come up into black tube
+Jose Maria González-Calatayud Saiz Hello Jose, the water cooled model, great! I hope you'll find a nice hull to try it!

Yes, could be a home made hull. :-) www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-049-Gas-Outboard-13-26-Model-Boat-Plan-Cabin-Cruiser-Penny-Plans-/262087765607?hash=item3d05a5ee67:g:TzgAAOSwstxVSkN~
+Jose Maria González-Calatayud Saiz Hello Jose, Sorry, I had not ridden your last line previously: yes a little part of the water flow generated by the prop is pushed up in the water pickup. In the case of an engine with a clutch, you have to add a water pump or avoid long iddles! The boat in the plan is very nice but I think the13'' model is a little bit too small and the boat would be too" lively" with the Wen Mac and the 26'' would be under powered. Maybe making it with a 18"-20" lenght would be ideal? My boat is 55CM long and is underpowered but it's very heavy, 1300gr: imagine a 1300gr plane powered by a Cox .049!
Only a dedicated glow engine collector and modeler would do this. Can you just imagine any youth of today going through all that preparation to get a model boat going? Nah.... They just want to plug in a battery, lol.

how true and as a result they learn nothing.

Runs good ! Excellent to see the outboard doing what it is designed to do.
The onboard camera is absolutely fantastic. Great job, pal.
Just nice...don't stop. Boats a piece of art.

Thank you for the videos. I have an Atwood .049 outboard with a water jacket but never had it on a boat, only ran it on the bench.
Very nice vintage hybrid boat!
Wow, very nice boat! Love it! Never seen an outboard nitro engine like that! Great job! Have a great day!
Excellent project. Both Boat and motor have a well paired retro look.
Reminds me of a Chris Craft my father owned. Although that was an inboard with a 25 h.p. backup motor on the transom.
Nice to see the motors used for a change. Great job!
That looks like so much fun 😀 Great job fixing her up she looks beautiful👍
Awesome boat great work. Lovely pool
Mr Rapmoz, absolutely fascinating video. On board footage great fun, I am inspired.
Very nice boat and motor.
That is just flat out awesome! I can't believe that guy built that boat!
Beautiful setup and detail for this scale model. Always wanted to see this motor perform and its just as cool as i imagined. i feel that some scale dock bumpers may be a good addition for pool use, and will help save the hull for more of those "oops moments" lol. Keep it up!!
+p Mc : excellent idea, thanks!
+rapmoz e motor works like brake and power boost?
Exactly, I could not explain better the use of the E-motor.
I remember building that model a long long time ago.... I used a bit larger electric motor, 6 volts I think,, I couldn't afford the outboard. I don't know what ever happened to it.... Nice.
Very nice and you have a great looking boat
Nice job, the boat sails and looks great!
Great job! It just needs a little water skier out behind her.
What a good Idea the back up electric motor Thanks for the video
fantastic build and great video thanks
Neat . Beautiful old boat
Amazing!!! You should be incredibly proud!!!!
How old is that engine? I'm very intrigued by a glow plug outboard engine.
That is a lovely boat, by the way.
Nice job on the boat - you had a lot of work to do one it!!
Tres bon!
Very cool, loved the onboard shot :)
WELL DONE---Graham (UK)
keep in mind with the e motor off that propeller is nothing but drag on the system . but that was interesting.
If memory serves me right that is the Gilligan's inland boat . with the Professor and Maryann .. Look at it ... Great boat ..
I love the way you are using the electric motor for all purposes, slowing you down, giving even more speed and retrieval, are the propellers contra rotating?
very nice boat!
wow i like the boat! nitro to top it off to great thanks for the video
That is so cool !
nice work. is your pool all slimy with oil

Outstanding!
what kind of motor is that look like a control line motor with an add on ? is it a control line motor ?
I need a pool for my steam boats, nice runner!
Good job! You are really underrated
i always tried to find one of these motors but its so hard and they go for so much. I almost got one once for $100 but someone bid at the last second!
Nice work!
Very nice job!
Very Nice.....you need a bigger pool.... : )
Man that's a beautiful boat captain I would be afraid to run it in that pool right I would crash it
are you gonna try it on open water with the needle in the correct position?
i wanna see how fast it can be
+robot797
Of course!

awsome model

Excellent
Paint a cool rotating design on the spin wheel on the top
goes very well

Awesome 👍, but where is the fuel tank ?
Watch a t 2:13, you'll see it"s the boxy part forward of the crankcase.
awesome, no idea such en engine even existed...
Great job!
Pretty sweet.
beautiful
amazing work!!!

fantastic! wow!
Fantastic work! Wich Camera do you use for onboard video?
Thanks Davide, I use a pencil camera " sports cam".
Can you post a link of a website for that? :)
thumbs up for a rc *hybrid* boat :)
+Rory Smith Héhé !
Excellent, you gave me an idea: I will add a pair of solar panels on the roof and will call it "Sea Prius"!
But surely that's a GLOW engine? I mention that as it appears to have a glow plug....... There are glow engines which run quite happily on fuel without any nitro. I take it they would be described as no nitro engines?

sounds really scale like!
