I am a black woman raised in white communities way back in the 1960s and 1970s. We were the only black family in the community I grew up in. But actually my family didn't talk about it much!
Rita, being so open, straightforward, and communicating honestly with Justice gave him the ability to process the obvious changes he was facing. What an amazing mom you are, Rita! You can tell by his responses he is very grounded and mature!
But I was accused of not being black because I talked proper English not by whites in school but blacks who eventually came into school.
But I attained so much healing when I came to CHRIST back in the 1980s! He has grounded my life in ways I never expected!

I loved seeing a mother just talking to her child, asking questions and really listening to know him. Lots of parents don’t do this
I was forced into church as a child and believe it was a good thing for me~ I love God and continue to want more of Him
Sorry as a child you can not be forced into church, you were a child not an adult hope you see the difference.
I was adopted at birth and the best thing my parents did for me was be complete honest and transparent about it my WHOLE life! I don’t remember ever “finding out.” My adopted father passed from cancer when I was in high school, but thankfully now I have a wonderful relationship with my bio dad. I naturally feel and wonder about the abandonment aspect of adoption, but at the end of the day, I am SO grateful that I am where I am. Praise the Lord

My children are black I am black and a widow. My kids were always told why are you talking like a white person. Well they always had proper English. They would have to say I'm not talking white just because I talk proper doesn't mean I'm talking white. I think this is awesome she adopted him no matter what color he was. God bless her. I know people have a problem with this but that's on them. Love you Rita and love your honestly.❤
Black people who have internalized white racism towards them are those who think speaking proper English and being decent in certain ways makes you not "to be "acting black", most educated African-raised blacks also do get people saying that they are acting white.
I’ve gotten that all my life and I was raised by a black mother and father. But my parents were both in the military so we spent half our childhood in Germany. My sister and I didn’t fit in with black culture for a long time.
I feel like this mentality is just in the US. In most African countries, people don't question because it depends on the schools one went to and if the person maybe lived abroad.
What surprises me about the US is that you live among whites, blacks, and other cultures so one can adapt to whatever way of speaking. It should be simple to understand.
@@Flourish_today a lot of things are simple common sense things but Americans make it a race issue, they associate every negative thing to being black but if white people do the same negative thing they simply look away. If you go to many predominantly white towns you will find majority of them speaking poor and hood English and also their behavior is like that of typical less educated people but nobody will associate illiteracy and bad English with being white. White Americans are the majority and they are obsessed with making themselves look superior before everyone else
Rita, this gives me HOPE! I’m obsessed with Justice. He’s an amazing kid! I am an adoptive (white) mom of 4 brown/black babies. And I pray everyday that they will grow up with a firm foundation and identity in the Lord, KNOWING they are loved, and being able to navigate well the challenges of being a different ethnicity than their parents. Justice gives me so much hope. I pray that my kids can give me as much grace as he does you! Well done, Rita. You and the Lord did a great job.

The difference between him and another adopted child is that you were totally honest with him from the beginning.. adopted kids often feel as though their life is a lie when they find out their adopted later on in life. So you conquered the potential fear.. what a great job you’ve done.. God bless you!!!

I love seeing the beautiful relationship between Rita and her adorable handsome son now at 19. You can just tell they genuinely have a really special bond and really meaningful parent/child relationship. You can authentically see the love and affection they both have for each other. Especially in their eyes. Melts my heart. Hearing their amazing God story of how He brought them together is just deeply touching. I’m really happy we were given the opportunity to hear Justice’s thoughts and perspective after hearing how Daddy God unfolded this precious story of adoption. He clearly handpicked Justice for Rita to adopt as her own. I know this type of setup isn’t always easy to navigate when the cultural backgrounds are different because I have dear friends who have been foster parents who have adopted 3 precious kids after having 3 biological kids of their own. But obviously Rita has done such a fantastic job of partnering with Daddy God to raise her son with Justice always feeling like she was really honoring and sensitive of Justice being a beautiful black child that she was raising as a white mother. And my dear friends have done the same with their precious adoptive kids who came into this world as beautiful black and Latino babies. God love stories are the best! 💜

He’s such a gem!!! Also super encouraging and believing for my own son who’s similar in temperament to develop that same resilience when people try to label him or have issues with him. Right now it really bothers him, but I’m trying to just be sensitive and empathize with him when he brings it up. So encouraging!!

I love you guys soooo much!! 💖 I’ve loved your relationship ever since I came across that picture you posted of your hands, holding hands. I think Justice was between 5 or 7.. maybe younger. I wrote you an email sharing my story how the Lord had given me several dreams that I would one day adopt my “night-skin boy”. I’m so proud of both of you being such a witness to real love not perfection. Justice has so much grace for being so young. Most kids wouldn’t go through an interview like that. My son adopted a boy and girl and they are black. These are my grandbabies and I love them so much. They are now 3 and 4 and when I visit them they sit with me for hours with a few up and downs. But they are everything and what is color. It's just a color. God bless you

2nd grade is when many kids begin entering middle childhood, and so that makes sense that that's when the reality of adoption became comprehensible to him.

I was adopted as a baby
My parents didn't tell me , I was not an easy kid, a letter came through the post at 28 telling me that my birth mother wanted to know how I was doing. I thought that it was s joke until I realized that it wasnt
A social worker asked me if I didn't ever think that I looked like the people that adopted me, strangely I look exactly like my dad, I was told that the parents mold their children, I don't know how you mold features but ...?
Going forward I met my biological parent my mother first within 3 days of finding out through someone telling me that I look like his brothers girlfriend, turned out we have the same mother and father she is 1yr 3 mth older than me.
A long story but I thank God for my life. It's made me laid back realizing I'm not in control God has a plan.
My birth mother who I didn't know we actually have lives carbon copy of each other 4 kids 1 boy 3 girls had the same addictions, the LORD has delivered me, ALL the glory goes to Him.
Thank God for those who scoop us up and do their best to raise us. ❤️

I think the very fact that Mom didn't try to hide or cover up the fact that he was adopted that's just a normal for them that was their normal but if somebody tries to keep something a secret it's just like why would you want to keep it a secret why are you afraid or ashamed or are you going to feel unloved or they might not love you or something like that but to live in the reality that it was absolutely normal this is your mom this is your son bingo it is what it is.

Thank you for sharing with your son, I know you keep bringing up that he's black and you are white, my friend is white like you and has birthed a black son from her black husband.. but you keep saying that you are white and naturally color different, don't really think that matters.
But would like you to allow him to talk you keep interpreting him as he's talking. I love you and watch your ministry, but let him talk.

It may just be me, but I'm experiencing a volume difference between the two of you.
Our skin and hair needs adequate moisturiser. You could have brought him some lip balm moisturiser - for the love of Jesus it isn’t too late.
As a black man I say it’s great not to embrace the black culture or what I called a subculture. I know as young people we try to fit in but I don’t believe race 22:06 has a lot to do it. My dad used to tell me that you really only have three or four true friends your whole life. Those are the ones that you need to embrace find your compatibility with. Everything else is just superficial fluff
In this day and age I often wonder how it is that people in America still equate color with “culture.” I grew up in the late 1960’s& 1970’s in NYC. I had friends of all hues and status. How is it in 2024 that all of us in this country come from some other nation allow ourselves to be “tribalized” or treated like chess pieces on a board♟️by some invisible puppet master. Then in the church and faith, we seem to have the same issues. That’s why Paul the apostle in Corinthians said, “IF ANY MAN (WOMAN) BE IN CHRIST HE IS A NEW CREATION-- old things are passed away and behold ALL things become NEW. (2Cor. 5:17)
As Creator God was creating when He made us, expressing His diversity. He made the red rose, the pink carnation, purple tulip; He also made the river, ocean, pond, stream; The elephant, polar bear, American black bear🐻 When He created His workmanship God was just having fun🤩 expressing Himself. May we lean in to hear His loving, gentle whisper saying, “I love You” over us❤️

I did a lot of my growing up in city of Brotherly Love..... Philadelphia.... Don't pay no mind to what people are saying... There are some things that aren't "black" but some people will be them and claim them anyway
I’m black raised by black parents. I drove up to a fast food window. The girl said, you sound white! Smh. Stereotypes.
So limiting and frustrating. We are blessed with freedom in Christ.
