This was actually a feature in the earlier mystery dungeon games, specifically Rescue Team and Explorers. Riolu is a weird case. Since both Inner Focus AND Steadfast are active on it, it leads to an impossible senario. It can't be Flinched because of Inner Focus, but Steadfast activates when it flinches. So you can NEVER activate Steadfast with Riolu in Mystery Dungeon. Kind of hilarious.

Makes you immune to status and also grands you passive healing.
Breloom is a physical sweeper which means that a burn from will-o-wisp/scald etc can render it basically useless by dropping its attack by 50% from 372 (adamant) down to 186. You're also immune to other status conditions like paralysis, freeze and sleep.
Besides Breloom's speed, is really bad so unless you're using priority you're getting outsped by like 95% of other sweeper mons.
The most common poison heal breloom set is; Spore, Substitute, Leech Seed, Focus Punch.
Poison heal allows you a free switch -in on a toxic for example and if you're already poisoned from toxic orb to any other status move. You can force switch outs with spore and leech seed afterwards, and set-up with sub or deal a lot of damage with a F.Punch. It is a set that heavily relies on prediction but it's as good as the technician set.

Most weather setters are gonna be stronger because they usually have an ability that boosts them in the weather they set. Getting both is scary.
Alolan ninetales gets to set snow and dodges.
Pelipper has rain dish (and keen eye).
    Hippowdon hits harder in sand.

@antoinepolnareff8970 I love sun, as a fire specialist. But giving all abilities to sun setters gives you nothing synergistic. Immunity to fire on Ninetales. Torkoal's really poor stats (besides defense) can't be lowered. Groudon only has drought. Mega-Zard Y only has drought.
Hippowdon on the other hand, gets sand force, so it shows up, boosts sp. def., and gets an atk boost besides. Gigalith gets both those *and* sturdy. T-tar just makes opponents not eat berries.
Alolan ninetales gets evasion boost as well as def boost with snow warning/snow cloak. Vanilluxe gets Ice Body, healing it in snow. Abomasnow gets soundproof, which isn't fully synergistic, but makes it immune to Bug Buzz and torch song, which would have super effective against it.

@antoinepolnareff8970 because my comment was about the weather setters. Not about pokemon that abuse the weather. There's something like 40 chlorophyll mons. Some get leaf guard and some get harvest.
But that is gaining use *under* sun. They are not *setting* the sun. Meaning you set sun with a mon with no additional benefits. Then have to swap into something that can utilize the weather better than the one who set it. Sand, Rain, and Snow don't have that problem. Their weather setters get to abuse the weather they set up. So there are *six* mons abusing weather instead of 5 for sun.
And all protosynthesis mons only get photosynthesis, so they aren't gaining additional benefit. Orichalcum Pulse is basically 2 abilities in one (proto and drought), and it isn't getting additional boosts either.
Sand stream + Sand Force is absolutely more beneficial than leaf guard+chlorophyll. And stacking guaranteed harvest with solar power and chlorophyll is not going to make tropius good. It's still going to be leech seed/sub stalling as it sets up a solar power air slash that still won't kill anything that isn't weak to flying. And once sun wears off, it isn't strong enough to one shot things that *are* weak to flying.

Other pokemon with good combos but would be sunflora. Under the sun, it can surprisingly be usuable with solar power and chlorophyll. It does have a pretty respectable base 105 special. Albeit you are forced to invest in max speed to hit anything reliably. Even then, it makes sunflora into a glass cannon.
Another pokemon with that combo would be tropius. However, even with that boost, the special and speed stat is still kinda bad.
Edit: A pokemon that would be negatively affected would definately be golduck. Imagine shutting off your own swift swim, couldnt be me

They did have multiple abilities in Mystery Dungeon. This led to really funny things like contradictory abilities on Lucario being unable to be flinched (Inner Focus) but also getting speed from being flinched (Steadfast). Apparently the only way for it to be getting that speed boost is to be made cross-eyed by a particular seed.

Also Blaze and Drought with Tough Claws would be Amazing too though Solar Power would weaken that.

With Sableye’s signature ability, it works kind of like a lagging tail. For those that still don’t know what it is exactly, Stall makes it so that the Pokémon with this ability suffer -.5 priority. So if you combine it with Prankster, which gives status moves a +1 priority, the resulting move would have a .5 priority. Beating out any moves with 0 priority but losing to even the slowest of quick attacks. The real interesting edge cases would be when factoring in Quick Claw, which randomly gives moves a +.5 priority. Since I don’t know if this works inside of priority brackets, in which case the Prankster + Stall would always go first, or if this works all inclusively, where both would have the exact same priority so whoever is faster would win.

So Sableye using statis will move after all other +1 priority moves. And the same with no priority however it WILL move first if the oponent uses a non priority move and Sableye uses a statis move.

While Prankster and Stall feel like opposites, their effects aren't actually direct opposites. While Prankster increases priority, Stall simply makes it go last within it's priority bracket, so Prankster would almost always end up taking precedence. The only times Stall would actually come into play are when slower pokemon are trying to use priority moves, or if you are foolish enough to use an attacking move LOL.

Fun fact, in Mystery Dungeon series all Pokemon have all their (regular) abilities at once, which helps some and hinders others, for example Riolu can't be flinched because Inner Focus but Steadfast increases speed if flinched.. or "cross-eyed" a status unique to the Mystery Dungeon series, resulting in having to have an enemy use the one item in the game that would cause "cross-eye" status.. or a random trap tile.. but you are then blinded.. but fast..
But something like Cubone can use both of its abilities without negating each other, so it draws in Electric moves, neutralizes them, and then can use strong moves with recoil..
Other fun fact, since Moody has only been a HA and the Mystery Dungeon series hasn't had those, we don't how it would work in that scenario.. but never realized Bidoof could be pretty good even without it lol

However, both its abilities dealt with one of this weaknesses, Levitate for Ground and Heatproof for Fire, making it one of the situations a Pokémon didn't had any weakness. "Excadrill would have a base speed of 176 with sand rush." This isn't how base stats work, doubling a stat which is base 88 doesn't result in base 176. The base stat goes into a calculation with level, evs, ivs, and nature to get the raw stat, which is what is actually boosted. In practice, a 2x boost to the raw stat can be a bigger difference than doubling the base stat.

  • @morphstarchangeling8024

Honestly Kekleon changing type constantly could be interesting. Not enough to make it broken, but interesting enough that I could see it really messing up someone if this was prenerf Protein where they changed types with every move they used. Keckleon going from a normal type to a dark type when using sucker punch, the resisting the oncoming attack just to become that type, only to change their type again into something completely different could be a super annoying pokemon to fight with how you'd have to predict what the opponent wants to use.

    • @msgameandcake628
      @msgameandcake628 6 місяців тому

I think the main problem is that Color Change wouldn't actually have a benefit most of the time with Pre-nerf Protein.
If Kekleon goes second, then the opponent hits him, he changes type from Color Change, and then instantly changes type again from Protean when he attacks, resulting in the Color Change switch not doing anything.
If Kekleon goes first, then he changes from Protean, gets hit and changes from Color Change, but then he'd most likely go first again and change from Protean before the opponent even has a chance to hit his Color Change'd typing.
Priority can shake this pattern up, like Sucker Punch you mentioned, but it would probably have to be your own priority, since I'd imagine a slow opponent hitting you with a regular move wouldn't then use a priority move of their own if they just made you resistant to it, and alternatively they might've hit you with their non-priority move specifically to REMOVE your resistance to their priority move.
Even though it would be rather difficult to use Color Change to gain a resistance to actual enemy attacks in this scenario, there are a few niche situations I could see this helping. If Kekleon goes first and gets hit by an attack to end the turn with a Color Change'd type, then switches out, the Color Change typing might help provide a resistance or immunity when switching back in (assuming Color Change persists between switches?) Or maybe if the opponent had Sandstorm up and he Color Change'd to Rock, Ground, or Steel, so at the end of the turn he wouldn't take environmental damage, or some other similar type-specific end-of-turn effect.
I think the biggest issue here is the fact that first the opponent needs to hit you with a move that CAN give you a situationally beneficial end-of-turn typing, and then you still need to get lucky for Color Change to choose the CORRECT typing, since there will pretty much always be multiple types it can choose to give you after getting hit. In the previously noted Sandstorm niche moment, even if the opponent hits you with a Normal move that could Color Change you to Rock or Steel, it could still change you to Ghost instead.

My favorite Pokémon idea I’ve ever had is a series of gimmick mons like paradox or ultra beasts, where they are like quantum Pokémon. Their gimmick is that they would each have two abilities, but their hidden ability is all the same called like quantum uncertainty or something to that effect. Not every ability could be used with this, but basically what it would do is that the Pokémon has both abilities until one of them is triggered, and then it only has the one that was triggered. So if a Pokémon had inner focus and sturdy for example, on turn 1 if it got flinched or intimidated inner focus would trigger making immune to those effects and it would have inner focus till it switched out. But if it got ohko’d before inner focus triggered it would then have sturdy activate and have sturdy till it switched out. This wouldn’t work with an ability like intimidate, but there are tons of cool combinations that make the Pokémon more dynamic and interesting to play around.

Translation: if Sableye and another Pokémon use a move with +1 priority (i.e. Prankster), Sableye will move after that Pokémon. However, if the other Pokémon is NOT using a priority move, Sableye will still go first.
Normally, Speed would be a factor in this situation, but Stall ignores it and makes Sableye go second anyway.
