6:30 After the Chatot segment I think you should do a video about “Sound type” and “Light type”. Why were they never made and maybe never will despite a large array of moves and abilities based on them. When Yveltal and Xerneas were first revealed we thought Sound and Light types were debuting.
I actually believe the Sceptile thing. If Leaf Blade was a physical attack, it would be a physical attacker. It has never felt right to me that Sceptile had a higher special attack.
I've always hated that they didn't fix Sceptile's stats in Gen 4 onwards. I'll always go for the nature that increases attack while lowering special attack and use it as a physical attacker.
1:48 Just a reminder that any pokemon from lower tiers than OU (UU, RU, NU, ect) can be used in OU. Basically the pokemon legal in OU are OU and lower, same for UU, where the pokemon you can use are UU and pokemon in tiers below, ect.
Right. I wish people knew that and the fact that it's usage-based. People are always acting like it's some illuminati council out there choosing tier placement specifically to ruin their favorite Pokemon.
You’d be surprised how stacked Appletun’s kit is. Thick fat for an ability, access to leech seed and recover, good move options like body press and a signature attack in apple acid. Appletun was really held back by the low overall stat total, which Dipplin mitigates with eviolite and better stat distribution.
One of Gamefreak's biggest mistakes was not fixing Sceptile's stats in Gen 4 onwards. I'll always get one with the nature that raises attack while lowering special attack, max his attack EVs, and use him as a physical sweeper.
@@johnpaulcross424slow start halves the raw stat not the base stat if it's base stat was halved it's max attack would be 284 but it's raw stat is halved instead making it's attack stat 230 with max attack iv/ev and Adamant which would make it's attack stat the same as oshawotts which is 55 attack
It seems someone at GameFreak HATES Flygon for no good reason. First, they introduce another Ground/Dragon-type with higher stats in every field, then they oh-so-conveniently forget to give it a Mega like every other fully evolved Hoenn dragon, then they haven’t given it anything special, not even a regional form, in like, forever.
Poor Sceptile will probably never get actual buffs or anything because it's stuck in the area of being just good enough to not require buffs but not nearly good enough to compete in anything
I think you misinterpreted how smogon's tiering system works. Terrakion CAN be used in OU, its just not advisable. Lower tier pokemon can be used in higher tiers, they're just not ideal for it usually (though exceptions exist)
Terrakion is probably still better than Boulder in VGC because of its pairing with Whimsicott and not having a weakness to the five best Pokémon in the meta. Instead, it’s only bad against 4 of the best Pokémon in the meta.
@@uribevaldezargenis8862 Yeah, but this thing isn’t threatening enough to need protect. Intimidate, or just hitting it hard is usually enough. Imagine if Smoochum had a move that set stealth rocks and spikes at the same time. It still wouldn’t be used over Gliscor because it doesn’t have enough utility outside that one cool thing to justify using it. Obviously; that’s an exaggeration, but when the single most popular core in the game, Balance + Flutter Mane, sends you packing, it might as well be Smoochum. Terrakion I believe made day 2 in Charlotte, but I cant find a single Iron Boulder in day 1 or 2 of any regional.
Tiers only exist in the world of smogon but yeah, robots indeed be taking over alongside the ancients. Why play with Mismagius and Misdreavus when we have Flutter Mane.
The really sad thing about Sceptile is even its mega form failed to fix it. Not only were its stats still geared toward special attack, but its new ability Lightning Rod also only boosts special attack, making any attempt to run it as a physical sweeper for the wider move pool options even more incongruous.
There should be Stealth Rock alts that replaces Stealth Rocks I.E. only 1 of these can be active at once I would suggest Grass (Hidden Thorns) and Bug (Hive Trap) because Rock, Grass, and Bug create a rock, paper, scissors triangle and there is no overlapping weaknesses

Both of these Pokémon have been a shell of their former selves ever since.
What's crazy is as much favoritism Zard gets, GF has still never given it a legit buff. They just give it a temporary form change and call it a day. A lot of the early gen starters can use a buff.
Chatot is super underated i won a random mon tournament almost with it alone. I was so disappointed when i saw it was on my team because of its reputation of being mostly just there

Even though Sawsbuck has never been really relevant competitively, I liked what little it did bring to the table. And then Gen 6 dropped and brought Gogoat, who is literally just Sawsbuck but better. It makes me sad for one of my favorite Grass-types
Well losing leaf blade isn’t that bad because energy ball was introduced the same generation of the physical special split and has the same power and can lower special defense
@@nintendolife25 yeah some moves switched up base power but sceptile did fall off just not in the way he explained it the physical move pool is a lot better though
Roserade is another example of a pokémon that becomes irrevelant. In gen 4, she was a special pokémon at the time, used by a champion, also, Roserade is also great in Gen 4 OU. But unfortunaly, more the time passes, Roserade becomes worse in the competitive. We don't talk about after gen 4, Game Freak wants to replace Roserade with new pokémon with the same idea, Lilligant, Tsareena and Arboliva replace Roserade's unique feminine grass type and Meowscarada replace Roserade's unique grass type masked hero. I don't know why Game Freak hates Roserade so much 😞
I guess one could say that Politoed did like frogs irl & only come out for the rain. Referring back to the vid you did on gifting +25 on bst to those who lost mega-evos, I think Sceptile would heavily benefit from most or all of it going to its physical Attack stat (or maybe the last +5 going perhaps to other stats) stat alongside Technician since the mixed or even physical offense sets could become actually viable instead of just gimmicky from the attacking stats possibly becoming equal
Really the loss of all of Sceptiles coverage moves is the biggest loss in the Gen 3-4 transitionz Going from _excellent_ Grass, Electric in thunder punch, Dark in Crunch, and dragon coverage with Dragon claw, and that’s before factoring Hidden power, is amazing. But those moves are all now physical attacks, leaving it with grass, Dragon pulse, Focus Miss and hidden power, which is gone in Gen 8 leaving it with near nothing otherwise. Like it’s best set is often Subseed sets, which sucks because it’s a glass cannon Like, at least they could have given it Earth power, Dark Pulse or even Tbolt.
You did mention how Terrakion got outclassed by Iron Boulder but the same could apply to any Pokémon with a Paradox counterpart. Unless their name is Amoonguss, Hydreigon, Tyranitar, or Volcarona, odds are that Pokémon would be made completely irrelevant. Even the legendaries with a Paradox counterpart are doomed to being stuck in RU, or in Virizion’s case, PU.
Iron Leaves itself is a pretty bad Pokémon, but most of the paradoxes that aren't a straight downgrade are either of weaker/not fully evolved Pokémon (Bundle, Scream Tail, Mane... kinda) or fill a completely different role (Wake, Bolt, even Mence has utility over Moon w/ intimidate), and most of the remainder are of Pokémon that have been power crept a long time ago (Hands, Tusk/Treads, Valiant) while others outperform their paradox form in vgc (Entei, Terrakion, and even Gallade in some formats)
GF cares enough about balanced to not give iron boulder rock slide (which imo makes it worse then terrackion in VGC), but not enough to give (insert physical water type) anything over urshifu
It's not just Alakazam; sadly, Psychic-types in general dropped off, mostly due to the physical-special split, then the nerfing of Steel-types in Gen 6. Even with Fairies around, to the best of my (HIGHLY LIMITED) knowledge Dragons still continue to be dangerous, whereas Game Freak has never let Psychic live down Gen 1.
