Nick: Neon pothos is a very fast grower.

I think for the neon pothos the rule of “1st year it sleeps, 2nd year it creeps and 3rd year it leaps” very much still applies... have had these small plants that have just had a couple leaves grown from cuttings but nowhere near “vining”...

As a child of the 50's, I can remember when the only plants that everyone's family seemed to have were those old standbys, the Heart-Leafed Philodendron and a Snake Plant. They were available at your local Acme Supermarket (NJ) for 29 cents and 39 cents respectively! My Golden Pothos, which many find boring, seems like a "superstar Philodendron" that has a better press agent. 😁

omg I’ve been trying to ID any peperomia ‘ruby cascade’ for MONTHS now, bless you 😭
fastest grower in my collection is BY FAR tradescantia zebrina, it’s truly in a league of its own. I’ve only had my guy for 3 months and it went from a couple leaves in a little 1 inch pot to maybe 6 vines spilling over the edges of a 4 inch pot.
my pothos (epipremnum, at least) are the closest runners-up, though I found that they take a little more time acclimating before really taking off. my scindapsus, on the other hand, is very much still recovering from a nasty bout of root rot, but I’m hoping it picks up growth again soon!!
edit: also honorable mention to my philo micans for regularly exploding with new growth and being super easy to propagate

Just an FYI for anyone who'd like to get a scindapsus pictus but might not know this: its leaves will curl up if overwatered as well! So in case you get one from a friend or a store and they haven't put it in well enough draining soil, it can be a good idea to check the soil as well before watering 🙈
    Definitely not speaking from experience...

Thank you for this video- I'm always trying to find the fastest growing indoor plants & this is very helpful! In case anyone reads this, I will share my experience.. I know this video is solely about houseplants, but I do feel the need to mention basil. I know, I know- it's an herb & not at all similar to the others. But I grow basil from seed & it's def a prolific grower. I also grow coleus from seed (rainbow mix) & they are amazing. It's always such a fun little surprise because the rainbow mix is random & you end up w/ several completely different looking plants even though they came from the same little seed packet. They're extremely easy, they're stunningly beautiful & they grow very quickly. Some of them remain little & compact & absolutely adorable, while others will quickly have leaves the size of your hand. And I definitely have to add philodendron brasil. I got 2 of them about 2-3ish months ago. It was during the middle of winter & I didn't expect for them to do much for awhile. But they continue to amaze me & have been consistently putting out tons of new growth, straight through the coldest, darkest time of year. I had to go up to 8" pots for both & I've already taken a bunch of cuttings which are doing very well. I really think they are the fastest growing plants I've ever had.

14:36 That senecio is lovely and I hope it catches on to maybe someday replace ivy as a houseplant, especially because regular ivy is an allergy/sensitization disaster that can trigger asthma and cause people to develop breathing difficulty and rashes if they say, touch it every other day and trim it regularly.

I bought a small Raphidophora Tetrasperma recently and I had no idea they were such fast growers! Mine has been struggling a bit since it was soaked in the supermarket and I had to repot it. I'll need to plan some support for it then!
I fashioned a small support for my baby Monstera Adansonii out of wire but I think I'll get a moss pole for it - it certainly woke up from Winter before my bigger Monstera Deliciosa.
And I so want a scindapsus pictus, it's so pretty! I have the golden pothos and golden pothos neon but they're still small (I started my collection last year). I really can't imagine my plants growing to the ceiling wow!

Very attractive and fuss-free, they just want to grow, grow, grow! Unfortunately our adansonii had musaik virus so we had to throw it away and never got one ever again. I don't know what wrong I am doing but my montera adinsonii can't grow because all her new leafs are drying before it even open up.
What could be the reason for this? Dry air?

Hi Nick! I really enjoyed seeing, and reading the comments, on fast growing plants. I have a Golden, Cebu Blue and Marble Queen pothos, a Brasil and heart leaf philo and the Monstera adansonii, Senecio macroglossus "Variegatus" and Ceropegia linearis ssp.

Hey, thanks Nick for the advice on getting a pepperomia ruby cascade, from another of your videos maybe from last year or so. I finally finally saw them at Walmart and I bought 2. They are very fast growing and I think just as cute as the now very expensive other plant. I'll won't mention any names...hehe

I loved watching this video. It's always interesting to hear what plants do well for people. I think one of the fastest-growing plants for me is tradescantia fluminensis vergata. I also think that tradescantia silomontana grows really fast for me. However, if you grow tradescantia silomontana in higher light, I find it grows slower and produces denser, fuzzier growth.

I’ve never heard a single other person mention Swedish Ivy or Royal Charlie, but I got some cuttings a year ago and now it’s in a 10 inch pot. It has EXPLODED. By far faster than the pothos even.

I've got the same exact experience with ivy's indoors. They thrive on my balcony, but whenever indoors - problematic.
Tried several different helixes, hestors, hibernicas etc.
Luckily i found the solution: Hedera Gloire De Marengo.
The most beautiful Hedera in my opinion. And they thrive indoors. I believe the variegation makes it more suitable.

Bought my Golden Pothos from Rooted because I had credits. It arrived in okay condition. You can tell they were just a bunch of cuttings potted up. It was in a 4” pot. After the credit, winter insurance, taxes, and whatnot, it still cost me almost $3. I wish I knew about Hirt’s, Gabriella and Etsy before I spent the credit on it though.
I must be doing something wrong as well, it hasn’t grown since I got it in December. It probably has since there are so many leaves to keep track of though. I don’t even know.

Bought a 5" hanging golden pothos about 4 months ago. I have had to cut it back to the pot rim *twice* already, and have started like 20 cuttings now, each between 6 and 10 inches long (some particularly long vines were cut in half because they were in the neighborhood of 14 inches). Clearly it appreciates the fertilizer and sitting right in a north-east window. I have to water it twice a week because it drinks so much fueling the explosive growth. I have Jade, Neon, Manjula and Snow Queen as well, but the Golden is definitely the fastest growing (though the Snow Queen is putting up a good effort for second place). When I finally get the space to train a pothos up an 8' pole to try for the giant "Hawaiian Style" leaves, it's going to be the Golden Pothos I do it with.
The only plant in my house that could give the pothos a run for it's money would be the raphidophora. That thing is a beast, and I already gave it an 8' totem because it clearly wanted to lick the ceiling.
Edit: if you want a fast-growing scindapsis with big leaves, scindapsis truebii "Moonlight" is pretty vigorous when given decent light. I probably get a leaf a week per stem, and they're nice and large. I really want to try the dark form too, but right now they're still pretty expensive online.

Scindapsus pictus is my jam! Very difficult to find in my part of North Carolina. I have an obsession with them and anytime I see one I have to buy it. I think it’s part of my PTSD that I got when all I thought about buying a plant and then waited and then five minutes later when I wanted it I saw someone take it and buy it. Ever since then if I even think I want to plan I will at least walk around with it and then decide!

Not to mention they are very expensive on Etsy! I know you say in your video you’re able to find them for five dollars or less. I would have a house full of them if I could find them that cheap. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Never have had luck with pothos but Syngoniums always grew fast for me. I had to take cuttings once a week to keep it from taking over my gecko terrarium and it was a 3ft x 1.5ft aquarium. housed a colony of leopard geckos.
Tropical Vining pitcher plants grew almost as fast id say about six inches to foot a month in the warmer months usually nothing in the winter though not even a pitcher
Also my ficus I bought as a little sapling grew taller then I am in 4 years. Im 6'5 for reference.
Christmas cactus gets huge fairly fast just don't disturb its roots!!! Im assuming other tropical forest cactus would be similar but never had personal experience. They are something alot of plant keepers sleep on but are really beautiful.
Can't wait till I get someplace I can keep plants a large assortment of plants again

    Honorable mention to Tradescantia!

Is there a reason why you do not propogate more cuttings of the more sparse pots of plants and then put them back in the pot or create a fuller pot? For example, I think the pothos you showed would look 4x more full if you lined cuttings up against the entire rim of the pot vs having a few vines grow up from the middle. Just curious.
