Very cool! Suggestion if you ever make a second version: You could make a 1800 one with French flags waving in the street. Also neoclassicism was a hot architecture style those days, so you could remake the Roman temple, but now as a 18th/19th century building (example is the City Hall of Groningen).

@@knaagdier Id like to see Florida through the years. Just take a look at the history of South Florida, that area has changed SO much through the years... especially Miami/Ft. Lauderdale (things definitely didn't change as much up here in the panhandle, which is my neck of the woods)

Awesome awesome. Please do america, maybe every 50 years from 1623 (1620) to modern day for New York city. So 1670, 1720 or maybe 1750, then 1810, 1860, 1900, 1920, 1940, 1960/65, 1980, 2000, 2010, 2020.
@knaagdier And a try at that extremely unique Dutch/New England architecture. I recommend looking at architectural showcases of original picture sketches in New York from the 17th century to get an idea, and then set up a single focal point of an area to work with. New York city was built up fast, and the original Netherlands/new world architecture quickly shifted to English when the british invaded and took over the island of Manhattan in 1664. By 1690 it was a huge spanning city, and this only continued on into the decades. By the 1700s they were starting on more fundamental buildings like office houses, banks, government buildings, main structures of the city, in city manors, and colonial houses. By 1800, a continuation factor of this with the new design being 3-5 story buildings with 3-4 tall federal windows across, and either had a seperate middle chimney or an edge chimney because it was a shared structure with an identical building next to it. Brick built structures were becoming enforcingly popular, especially after many fires. Best way to find images to work with is through untraditional means, looking up "1750 manhattan", "1690 Manhattan scene", 1800 Manhattan depiction" etc...
It sounds like you're referring to the idea of building or experiencing a Dutch city in **Minecraft** over time. This concept can be explored in various ways, such as recreating historical Dutch architecture, modern cities, or even speculative future designs. Here's a breakdown of how you could approach building a Dutch city in Minecraft through different periods: ### 1. **Historical Dutch City** **Era**: 17th Century (Dutch Golden Age) Build a city inspired by the historical architecture of the Netherlands during the golden age, focusing on:
- **Canals**: Known as "Grachtengordel," the famous canal belt in cities like Amsterdam. - **Townhouses**: Narrow, tall houses with gabled roofs. - **Port**: Build a bustling harbor with merchant ships, as the Netherlands was a major trading hub during this time. - **Windmills**: Iconic Dutch windmills that were used for everything from milling grain to pumping water. - **Churches**: Large Gothic-style churches like the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. - **Market Squares**: Central plazas where citizens would gather for trade. You can use blocks such as **bricks, dark oak, and stone** to create the aesthetic of the Dutch Golden Age. ### 2. **Industrial Dutch City** **Era**: 19th Century (Industrial Revolution) Transition the city into the 19th century by introducing:
- **Factories**: Large brick factories with chimneys. - **Railroads**: Create rail systems connecting different parts of the city. - **Bridges**: Steel or wood bridges spanning over canals and rivers. - **Streetlights**: Adding early streetlights along cobblestone streets. - **Row Houses**: More uniform, industrial-style housing for the growing working class. This era can feature more industrial elements, with a focus on brick and iron materials. ### 3. **Modern Dutch City** **Era**: Present Day Shift the city into the modern era, featuring:
- **Skyscrapers**: Modern high-rise buildings made from glass, concrete, and steel. - **Bicycles**: Create bike lanes that wind through the city, reflecting the Netherlands' bike-friendly culture. - **Sustainable Design**: Incorporate eco-friendly buildings, such as green roofs and wind turbines. - **Public Spaces**: Parks, playgrounds, and outdoor seating in urban areas. - **Trams and Buses**: Set up modern transportation systems with tram lines and bus stops. - **Modern Canals**: Clean, well-maintained canals with sleek houseboats. Use **concrete, glass, and quartz** to achieve the clean, contemporary look of modern Dutch cities. ### 4. **Futuristic Dutch City** **Era**: Future Imagine what a futuristic Dutch city might look like, inspired by current trends in sustainability and technology:
- **Floating Buildings**: With the threat of rising sea levels, futuristic Dutch cities might have floating neighborhoods. - **Vertical Farms**: Skyscrapers devoted to growing crops and producing energy. - **Hyperloop Systems**: Futuristic transportation systems that connect the city. - **Smart Buildings**: Structures with solar panels, wind energy, and advanced AI systems. - **Green Spaces**: Nature integrated into the city, with parks, forests, and rivers flowing through urban areas. You could use **end rods, sea lanterns, and futuristic-looking blocks like prismarine** to bring this vision to life. --- ### **Through the Years: Dutch City Timeline in Minecraft** If you'd like to build a Dutch city over time in Minecraft, you could create different districts that reflect these distinct eras. Here's a suggested timeline: 1. **Start with a historical old town** (17th century) with classical Dutch elements like canals and gabled houses. 2. **Expand into the industrial age** by adding factories and railways. 3. **Modernize part of the city** with skyscrapers, bike paths, and public transport. 4. **Finally, add futuristic sections** with floating or sustainable architecture. Each district would tell the story of the city evolving through the years, giving players a sense of progression and history as they explore. --- ### **Multiplayer Ideas** If you're playing with friends on a server, you could assign different players or teams to build in different eras, allowing each group to focus on a specific time period. This could lead to a collaborative city that grows and changes over time, reflecting both history and creativity. --- ### **Inspiration Sources for Dutch Cities in Minecraft** - **Amsterdam**: Famous for its canals and merchant houses. - **Rotterdam**: Known for its modern, innovative architecture. - **Utrecht**: A blend of medieval and modern elements with beautiful canals. - **The Hague**: A mix of government buildings, historical sites, and beaches. --- Minecraft is the perfect platform to tell the story of a city evolving through time, and a Dutch city offers a rich history of architecture, culture, and innovation to explore.
