As soon as she said she drinks well over 100 fl oz of water a day and it’s a good way to stay full that was a big, huge, gigantic, waving, crimson red flag.

Yep while keeping hydrated can help people not overeat out of boredom, using water as a way to fill up your stomach is really sending concerning signals. Just keep hydrated and eat filling and sustaining meals.

I drink that much now because I’m sitting at home lol but it’s usually spread out and after I wake/before bed. My skin has been really dehydrated lately, hence the uptake. I drink after my meals too, not during or before. You can drink that much water without it interrupting your eating habits; in fact I think it’s better practice if you’re drinking a lot of water while still eating enough. It’s such a bad sign that’s she’s using all these little ‘diet tricks’ to avoid eating. The caffeine consumption while she’s clearly at an energy deficit is worrying too; it wouldn’t surprise me if she’s using that to suppress her appetite.

Yup, its literally a meme within the ED community, ’ Yes, I may be malnourished, dizzy, cold all the time, BUT have you ever considered that I am one *hydrated bitch* ?’ (not gonna lie, when I was in the midst of my ED I found it hilarious, but now that I am in recovery I can see how delusional it really is💀)

Water is not the key to hydration, essential fatty foods are the key to full body hydration inside and out :) water is excess can cause a lot of other negative effects even diluting stomach acid and messing up the PH balance in our kidneys and body.

I can't agree more, they eat all these small snacks/bars that come in individual packets, supplements/powders/granola all in these plastic containers. Also all those instant foods for one time consumption too... Can't bear to watch. Wonder if this is a US thing or just a wealthy person thing. Like all their veg comes in packets too.

    • @AJ-ls4jh
      @AJ-ls4jh 4 роки тому +37

ChuppahCrunch it’s definitely a wealthy person thing. Buying things like that is sooo expensive and there are more options when it comes to buying normally packaged things (ie the entire produce section/a tub of protein powder/a jar of almond butter). You limit your options when you shop the other way. I think that maybe more people do it now than a few years ago though because they see their favourite people online doing it and they then want to live that life of convenience.

I can't speak for her, but when I'm in the depths of disordered eating, liquids are much easier to consume. You're essentially trying to block out the experience of eating food altogether, and when your stomach has shrunken from not eating enough, solids can actually feel somewhat painful to digest. It's scary to me to see someone else exhibiting that kind of behavior and I think it's an indication of a serious problem.

Eden Wild I looked up the calories of your “ideal” portions and it’s only 300 calories. If that’s her heavier meal, that’s not okay. At the very least, her meals should be 400 calories so that she can consume the minimum 1200 calories needed to obtain adequate nutrients. I think that you might be so used to diet culture that eating smaller portions looks like a healthier way of eating. We can eat nicely sized, filling meals and be healthy as long as we are eating nice, healthy ingredients. Meanwhile, the meal that you said was fattening and making americans obese is only 500 calories, which is a good amount of calories for a nice, filling, nutritious meal, especially considering that she was trying to eat heartier. Please rethink why you think that starving yourself and extreme calorie restriction is the only way to not be fat. It is 100% not true!

She eats in a pretty disordered way and it’s kind of irresponsible given her following. I really like her as a person but that part really upsets me. Abbey Sharp That might be true to a degree (suppressing appetite or burning fat) but I think my long term excessive consumption of caffeine has caused me to grind my teeth while asleep and I know it has messed with my anxiety. I used to consume it for those reasons specifically and I doubt it made that much of a difference to my weight loss efforts. It’s so not worth the long-term possible health implications.

on the caffeine thing : everything you said is true and makes a lot of sense but to understand erika’s use of caffeine we have to think from an ED stand point (btw i’m a medical student and a former anorexic and bulimic) : people with EDs have generally a very slow intestinal peristalsis which means they get bloated from very slow bowel movements because they are not eating enough (food arriving in the stomach stimulates bowel movements) -> they use caffeine as a laxative to go against that effect and often are addicted to it, not only bc the substance is addictive by nature, but also bc being bloated fires up their body dysmorphia (there is nothing an anorexic person likes more than shitting their brains out, believe me, and sorry for the TMI haha) - also sorry for any mistakes i made, i’m French, English isn’t my first language.

I think there’s a lot of miscommunication about eggs in general because yeah, they are pretty high in cholesterol for a single food source.
But if you’re looking at an entire day full of fruits and veggies and proteins that aren’t high in cholesterol, it’s not going to matter very much. Eggs only become an issue when paired with a super high cholesterol diet (what some would call the “Standard American Diet of mainly processed convenience foods). And at that point, the whole diet needs re-evaluation, not just the eggs haha.

It may be better for you to just prep bases and ingredients for meals, and cook the rest fresh. Ex: cook protein or rice, pasta, chop veggies, etc. I tend to shred chicken for lunches one day, and eat it in burritos, sandwiches or salads all week. That way, you can add the sauces and mix ins you want when you're ready to eat it.

Or something I do when meal prepping: rather than prep one large portion (6+ portions) for all your meals for the week, try prepping 3 smaller portions (2-3 servings) of different variety meals.
For example: this week I made a stir fry with chicken, veg, and rice noodles. I also made crumbled turkey burger w/ zucchini in low sugar pasta sauce over brown rice noodles. So I can kind of mix it up throughout the week.

Organic farming is much more sustainable and, when done correctly, causes very little harm on the environment. Nutritionally the differences between organic and conventional are mainly pesticide residues and some argue organic have more antioxidants / other minerals. @@madymoomoomoo0530 I try to be mostly zero waste as a student consuming vegan, mainly organic food. While I generally agree with you, it is not necessarily true, that organic foods are more sustainable. According to organic standards - at least in Germany where I live - animals are raised on more land, over a longer period of time and thus consume more food and water. Therefore, the environmental impact per animal is possibly higher. Consuming organic food would therefore only be more sustainable than a conventional diet if it is coupled with a reduction of daily meat consumption.

I ate like that when I was at my lowest point in my ED (it just breaks my heart because I know a lot of young girls are watching her and think this is how you should eat.... :( ). Hope she admits to herself soon that she has a problem. I didn't think I will ever eat like a 'normal human' again, but here we are...happy, healthy and FREE! :) I wish her the same!

There are some days were I am in a "restriction mode," and when I am in that mode, I try to remember the message you give, Abbey. It reminds me that if I don't eat adequately and nourish myself, my focus, mood, health, and ultimately my relationships with others will suffer. Thank you Abbey. You give that message on your channel, and it is really healing to my relationship to food, even in these videos; it's clear that the "diets" these models/you-tubers are on do not work and are often extremely unbalanced! Thank you Abbey!

The energy from her was REALLY uncomfortable. I dont know if im just being paranoid but it just kind of felt like she's teetering on breakdown or something. She seems a bit depressed, anxious (her hands were shaking, she kept moving back and forth, talking really fast, etc.), and the way she talks about food is as if it is just to get the bare minimum of calories in so she can be skinny but still be considered eating enough. Like she doesnt seem to enjoy her food at all and puts all the restrictions on her diet. And the thing about acai bowls being dangerous made me cringe.

Or just simple ways to add to their dish they reccomend to make it a better dish. I appreciate it and i hope more people can get to this level. Working on this every day and u have showed what eating should be like.

At 18:05 when she says she brought cupcakes but will only be eating a “bite of because it’s not on the detox” sounded like an ED thing to me. Like giving/making other people food and watching them eat it but not eating it yourself to either live vicariously through them or feel better about yourself because you didn’t “give in” and eat

Yes! The UA-camr named My Thoughts Will Probably Offend You is a fitness trainer and she talked about how she had problems with binging in the past. And she said she was able to really think about what to do to solve this. She said by having healthy food and snacks nearby (ex. Fresh fruit, fresh veggies, boiled eggs, etc.) she was able to have something quick and healthy to eat so she wouldn't go into these frantic states where she would start binging. I'm so happy you mentioned this too. Eating a bit can really help you make more mindful decisions. :)

I just want to reach out to her and tell her she is amazing and beautiful. Modeling culture can be extremely toxic. I know that she needs to work, but she may destroy herself mentally and physically if she doesn't find a way to love herself regardless of her size or what people say about her. It's so upsetting to see someone so unhappy.
