by far the most useful video I have found here regarding laying a new garden and the length of the video did not need to be a second longer. Thank you for uploading this video and providing great advice.
5 years later. It would have nothing to do with his work tbh. It's all down to how the owner has treated and looked after it. If it's been watered, mowed often etc. It will be looking completely fine
@@Carpfishing4400 Well said. That's the equivalent of giving someone a plant and coming back a year later to a dead plant, it says nothing about the original plant, lol
Looks great! But surely you should be kneeling on boards and not the freshly laid turf. That's what I do when I lay turf anyway to prevent any dips or damage.
Good video , I am about to commence something similar and was wondering after you have cultivated and levelled the existing soil to what depth do you add the new topsoil to bed your turf on . I am assuming it’s shallow enough to not require any compacting !
How far down do you dig? And how much topsoil or loam should you add. Do you put enough down so dirt comes up to the edge of walkway or leave enough room for sod height?
Regarding killing the old lawn; I got some 'Rosate 360 TF' glyphosate and dissolved 24ml in 1L water as directed and sprayed a test section, but three days later it does not look any less dead. How long should it take, and did I get the measure correct do you think?
I’m about to take up the grass, how do I workout how much topsoil do I need? And what’s the machine called you used to take up the grass? My garden a tad smaller than the one in this video. What machine size would you recommend I hire?
Great job, but why do you spray 4 weeks before to kill the grass then take the layer of turf off, should you not take layer off then spray, im interested because i have a job coming up
It’s a total kill herbicide. It is I’ll kill absolutely everything. Do needs time to degrade. Otherwise it will also kill the newly layed turf. We don’t want that.
? After killing off a lawn, would a turf cutter remove the sod so it can be rolled up or does it sometimes just break up, I sprayed off my lawn 3 weeks ago and put a scarifier through it today, one pass, I can now see how uneven it is and I’m considering removing with a turf cutter, advice would be greatly appreciated
Hi , the machine we use is called a Ryan turf cutter, but you can’t hire these only buy . You can come across them on eBay , but this time of year the little Honda ones you get from hire company’s work ok. Hope this helps . Gary
Nice job. What short of truf you have used? how come the truf getting 2 different shades, one is green and another is light green., looks beautiful. like a football field.
Thanks for the vid. We’re also adding a gravel border to help drainage between lawn and patio. Can you advise please what you used to separate lawn from gravel?
Hi there (great video), what is this "Supreme Gold" product you mention on the listing to kill anything green? I cannot find any online reference and also, couldn't that create risk to the fresh turf? Thanks
Actually you *can* hire them, Homebase hire them out for about £80.00 per day. Their Rotavator is very easy to use, and the turf cutter is just a bit trickier, but easily manageable. Look on the Homebase website.
I’m about to lay some turf, the garden had slabs down under the slabs was sharp sand and a membrane to stop weeds, Im now down to hard mud, question is Do I need to turn the hardened soil over? Or can I buy compost lay that down and then lay my grass on top ?
We have Round Up and Gallup at work which we use for controlling vegetation (mostly buddleia and the occasional giant hogweed or Japanese knotweed) Which would be the better of the two for grass.
czaszi , there was a very slight slope , the old lawn had a lot of moss previously, so to help prevent that for the new lawn the drainage was put in, hope this info helps you .

Very informative video! Also what i love about this video is that the before and after shots are from the same camera position!!
Thank you so much for great video. Exactly the info I needed presented in a clear and concise way.
As you can see... i can see and i saw a splendid job.
we have to do this soon. previous owners left the lawn and it's 90 percent moss and dandelion, horrible. This doesn't look too horribly hard to do.
5 years on. It would be extremely interesting if you went back to this lawn for a visual update!

Cheap! These clients aren't short of money by the looks of the house though!

AS YOU CAN SEE HERE, I HAVE DONE ANOTHER SPECTACULAR JOB HERE! I AM VERY PROUD HOW IT TURNED OUT !!
You’ve taken the words right out of my mouth !,
nice video, i would have put a decent granular fertiliser down before turfing, helps the rooting process.
as you can see, you've done a great job :D

As a homeowner I would like to know where would I dispose of the old rolled of lawn?
Do you use the roller after laying the sod?
is that a rotary ho or rotary tiller?
What do you call the machine that removes the top layer of that lawn
Very good I like to do but bit expensive .
What was the machine called to strip up the old turf?
@@aarona5351.... A Ryan turf cutter

It will take on average around 2- 3 weeks to see visible results
Is it better to use this method shown in the video or using the grass tiller and use the roller before laying new sod?
Missed the whole bit where you put the top soil and how much you used

It’s around 1 ton of soil per 50 sq metres laid and the machine is called a Ryan .
Good luck with the project.

How do i strip my lawn without one of those fancy machines? Is is ok to just dig it up?
I’m trying to imagine my water bill with that yard in the central coast of CA. Would be about $2k per month haha

I would say that you need to Rotavate up the ground now if it is still uneven .... and also getting some air back into the compact areas .

I read in the RHS website that one would need 10cm of top soil. Is it true that 10cm is required?
Wengkit Tan yes if you’re stripping old turf out but make sure you apply weed killer before laying new turf
Very informative video. When would be the best time of the year to do this as we need to re turf our garden.
Hi Lee , mid autumn is a good time to go for .

It's all about the way the grass is rolled. Alternate the direction of the rolls and the grass lies one way or the other giving stripes.

Metal edging baby.
You could use a wooden kick board... but metal edging would last a lot longer .
