Great videos! You're diligent with your lawn which motivates me too.
Thank u for sharing ur process. I get to admire ur work by watching. Its nice, simple & great music. Good luck with the grass!
Thanks Okami 🙏🏼
I just wanted to say thank you so much not only for this fantastic video, but your replies in these comments. Building the leveler and getting my lawn right has helped me immensely during this quarantine. Thank again!
i've been spreading lawns for many years and i love those hand spreaders so much more when i can use them.
This 4 part lawn repair video is the best on UA-cam by far.
Thanks 🙏🏼
One of the best videos on any subject on You Tube. To the point, great music, good information. Thank you for not wasting our time. Just the right length too.
Thanks 🙏🏼
I would sell my soul for a lawn which looks as good as this one before the treatment xD
Good idea on the DIY levelling jig, those lawn leveling rakes are eyewateringly expensive.
Like your DIY-levelling tool!
Amazing lawn! You're an inspiration 🙂
Your yard is super nice very neat
Excellent Tips
Great videos! You're diligent with your lawn which motivates me too.
Thanks and you’re pretty good at what you do as well 👍🏼
@@ShortCutLawn glitch in the matrix?
Just got done watching all 4 segments. Very well done! Just finishing up stage 1, sunjoe also. Stage 2 of your video helped me decide on my lawn leveling strategy! I'm also switching to KBG. Going for the lower cut lawn look now. Plus, KBG has great repair qualities that TTTF doesn't!! Tenacity is something I use as a post/pre emergent anyway. A very good product. Again, great job and good tips!
Thanks Eddy! KBG is a heck of a grass especially at lower height of cut, best of luck with your project 👍🏼
Watching you mix that sand and dirt. I had to use 45 yards of compost/sand/soil mixture to level my yard. I was lucky the supplier could mix that up at their yard before delivery. I paid some guys a “day” rate for their services. Took a few days but they got it all out there and pretty level. I mainly did mine to provide better nutrient base for my zoysia grass. Lawn topping is under rated for a great looking yard.
I really like your drag idea! I was gonna have a cinder block or my dumbells on a 2×4 on a cardboard!
Thumb up for DIY tool! Great video
If you live near DENTON, Texas the municipality here sells pre mixed compost. This makes for easy application. Good video.
That water pressure! 😯
This is good stuff. Great tip. Done something similar but not to this extreme. You got it dude!
You have a nice yard , good job 👍
Thanks for good job. Your grass it look nice
Good work ethic on your yard man keep it going
Здорово придумал!!!!!!!!! Спасибо за идею!!!!!!!!!
Great video neat and clean process,
Thank you 👍🏼
Mine next? Lol. Thanks for posting this vid. Ive been needing to do the same.👍
1 MILLION VIEWS!!! 👌👌👌👌🥇🥇🥇🥇 that's mad lol congratulations my friend 👍
Thanks Rob! This is my one-hit wonder video 🥇 😁
@@ShortCutLawn well wish I could get a 1 hit wonder lol
This is going to look even better this year! Loving it 💚
I hope so 🙏🏼🙂

Enjoy watching other people who care about their lawn as much as I do.
I feel the same way. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but I could watch yard work videos all morning, then go out and do yard work all afternoon.
Clever Tools applied
Great video
Great video. I'm going to do exactly what you did. Thank you
A push broom would have been great for getting the soil & sand into the bottom layers of the lawn and exposing more grass blades. Nice work though. A nice lawn is definitely a labor of love. I recently seeded a Zenith Zoysia lawn and used a drag mat to level my lawn before seeding, but I still have some top dressing to do next year in a few spots.
dang you make it look so easy. I just put down sand over 2500 and Im beat.
Blackbelt Work Brother, Thank You So Much, 👍🏾👊🏾✌🏾🇳🇬🇺🇸
👊🏼😎
GREAT VIDEO!~
wow dude awesome!!!
Sweet I think I need to do this to level newly seeded lawn
Good Stuff 🙏👌
Awesome someone with as much maybe more energy then me 👍🏻.and also a perfectionist. I wish I had that flat bed to bring the compost mixture 🤔😆
Alright 😁👍🏼
Nice!!!
Wow Amazing Hard work
Your KGB Turf looks Amazing!
great lawn before, I'd like to see a photo now 9 months on. But I think a mechanical dirt spreader would have made a more even job.
Awesome bro haha 👍
Nice editing
Just FYI, most material yards will mix materials for you with their loader if you ask. Save your back. Nice video 👍🏻
That’s good info Mark 👌🏼 thanks.
Thanks man. Good shut.
I dig the drag
That’s a lot of work but then again this is the way to do it.
Excellent! I'm excited tio do the same 😃
Nicely done! 👌
4.12 I think the technical name for the mini-drag is a "Lute" go down your local hire centre and ask for the weekend rate on a Lute for your lawn and watch bewilderment. I asked for a "Tariff" once and the guy said "What does it do?" I responded with "It tells you fee for each tool hire per day etc."
👍🏼
What a project!!
Awesome!
Use a chain link fence 6' x 6' works great.
I just looked it up, i think i like it 👌🏼
Coming up to 950,000 views, hats off to you shortcut 👍👍🥂🥂🥂
Just hit 951K, that’s crazy 😳 thanks Rob 🙂👍🏼
@@ShortCutLawn something tells me someones shared this video on some gardening site somewhere in the world as it's certainly gone viral!! 👍👍 all credit to you my friend
I’ve never thought about that but that’s a possibility, started with one share and it snowballed from there. This video single handedly brings traffic to my channel.
@@ShortCutLawn is funny how one video can totally change a channel 👍👍 anyways Merry Christmas to you and your family, hope you have a great and safe Holiday period 🎄🎄
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and your family as well 🎄
any reason, you didn't use a large push broom and push the piles in esp there wasnt much grass? so how many times do you have to do that to build up the organic matter in the foundation of the turf, and what seasons? thanks!
I need me a wheelbarrow like that one.
Great job👍
What border edging do you use / have? Looks neat and sturdy good bends on it. Great vid dude and your mini drag is bang on. 👍🏼
Thanks Matthew, it’s called Bend-a-board got it from HomeDepot
www.homedepot.com/p/1-in-x-4-in-x-20-ft-Teak-Brown-Bend-A-Board-100059386/203875472
I like seeing the drag in action I was wondering if something like that would work but I wasn't sure
Excellent idea on the flattening tool. Built one for free and it did an I me iste job. Thanks.
I would be worried that I would suffocate the seeds top dressing over w soil. I will be leveling then applying seed. Making good soil contact with you great idea of the board.
Great video! I have only one question. It's a bag of compost for seven bags of sand, right?
Thanks for the video. Very precise and detailed. What does the plaster sand do? Is it a must for good results?
Thanks,...sand is for leveling only, it has no effect on the overall health of the grass.
Great technique. Awesome job.. would you tell me what kind of sprinklers you using for watering?
Thanks Arturo 👍🏼 I’m using Rain Bird 4” pop up sprinkler heads.
Why not use a rotory spreader for the top dressing? Would it not give a more even later?
Great job👌
Looks good, here's where i go different. Instead of shoveling dirt onto the lawn try throwing it at a good angle, it spreads itself evenly believe it or not.. Might sound like a lot of work but its actually quicker and you get near perfect coverage. You avoid raking afterward which you dont want to do if you just spread an even amount of grass seed. With the hand throwing method just stand with the wheel barrel beside you and dont move till your done the whole area 360 degrees around you, then move the wheel barrel ahead 10 or 15 feet and do it again. finish, turn on sprinklers and your done. You dont want to rake afterwards cause you just move way to much seed around and you dont have to use you drag behind thing cause ...well...its spread perfect. Master the throw and you'll change your ways i promise. Ill make a video one day. Nice lawn btw
You sound passionate and knows what you’re doing, but i have a feeling you didn’t quite get what i was doing. I can’t blame you, that’s the down side of not narrating verbally, time lapse didn’t help either. One example was the raking, I wasn’t raking it to spread the material, it was to break up the wet crust that was forming on top of the turf. The drags main purpose was to level and spread the material. KBG seeds are so tiny that it’s almost microscopic 🙂 so when you put it down on a turf it goes straight down and gets locked in between the grass plant. Believe me, dragging the material which happens on top doesn’t disturb the tiny grass seeds that are in bottom. If it’s newly seeded bare dirt and you drag, that’s when you have a problem. You seem knowledgeable and thats cool, my video format mislead you a little bit.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this, nice work! I'm doing something similar this fall just debating if I should top dress or not (might try peat moss I dont know yet).
yeah you can’t go wrong with either one, but for me I mainly use peat moss for new seeding. Thanks for checkin’ out the video 👍🏼
Awesome video. Thank you. What was the cost of this project?
VERY GOOD VID, liked it. concise and clear. how much for the 5lb of super store seed? thanks cheaper than getting seed at lowes i guess?
Thanks J 👍🏼 price is a bit more than Lowes and HD, but you’re getting top notch quality.
To be honest, if my lawn looked as good as the "before" I'd be happy.
very nice work, I admire your videos, by the way the music was very nice; if you don't minde tell me the title song...and sorry for my bad english.
Nice! I'm trying to make a decision on what bluegrass I'm going to pick for a little reno this fall.
Hey Ryan,.. yeah you may wanna check out this Bluebank from seedsuperstore, it’s 4 stars across the board with the exception of shade tolerance. It’s considered “Super Elite” so I don’t think we can go wrong with that 🙂⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Correction: Bluebank is actually 4stars in shade tolerance but 1 on spring green up and 3 in leaf texture.
I got mixed up with Regenerate Tall Fescue which I might use on our small front lawn.
If I've never top dressed and leveled my (bumpy and patchy) yard before does it make more sense to do the overseeding as the last step after top dressing rather than first like you did? Just walking over my yard barefoot I can't imagine I would be able to keep the layer of top dress under .5 inch like you advised and still fill in the low areas.
With your situation you have the right idea, go ahead and level it and overseed afterwards it’s perfectly fine. Just make sure you have good seed-to-soil contact, seeds needs to covered and moist for it to germinate.
nice vid and surprised to listen to Bertysolo : )
WOW! How much water pressure do you have at your house? I enjoy your videos.
Thanks. about 75-80psi
Where did you go to get the sand and compost? And how much did that cost?
I’m in need of lawn rejuvenating. Great vid. My question for you is why did you not mix the seed with your compost/sand mixture? And I saw briefly you thatched the lawn. What other prep or fertilizing did you do if any? Thanks for sharing!
Control and consistency. If you spread the seeds separately you get to put it where you want it, in my case I spread it evenly on the entire lawn. If you mix the seeds with your top dressing you most likely to end up with clumps. In my opinion Mixing only works well when you’re fixing small patches. On this project I didn’t add or use any additional fertilization, just water. - Thanks for checking out my video 👍🏼
ShortCut Lawn thanks for the answer, was also wondering why.
Great video .... just made my own lawn level from your design. Cheers.
Are you gonna upload a video using it? 😁
Wow! Awesome video!😎👊☕️
Thanks George!....This one finally made it to your recommended videos? 😁👍🏼
ShortCut Lawn yup! I watched it last month and watched again after it was recommended!😎👊

Greetings from England. You've done a super job and a great video of it. What timber is the mini drag made from please? Is it 4 by 2.
Thanks. Yes it is 4x2

Wet sand compost mix? What's that. In Connecticut we just use top soil compost mix or even just top soil if we are just top dressing
Eric, it was just literally a wet material that I was working with, if I had waited a day or two for the mix to dry off before spreading it would’ve been a lot easier to drag and spread.
My initial plan was to add a light layer of sand for leveling, but I went ahead and add compost for added nutrients, we know that plain sand doesn’t hold any nutritional values. I hope that clears it a little bit.
Appreciate 😂
Hi, great video, what kind of block work retaining wall is in the garden??
Its a 16” retaining wall block
I like your patio...
What all did you use to build your leveler
Bravo magnifique
Why did you use grass from Kentucky?
Nice, but was your 8 ton in material not to much for your 1500 sm size?
it’s .8 ton, you missed the dot 👍🏼
Nice backyard space! Do you have a video on how you made that drag?
Thanks Brian!
No, I literally built that the same day in under 15mns :)
I will be making another next week and hopefully make a video about it.
Btw,.. Sub#153 on your channel 😎👍🏼
Good deal!
Thanks for the Sub!!
Since Connor says Dirty. I'm just gonna say Clean from now on. Nice work Btw! 👌
lol,..thanks Ben 👍🏼
Yes I bought turf.
great job! not sure how he got the paver not to fall out of the leveling apparatus??? how many times do you have to do that, once a year? and what season? thanks
J Marciano cause they weigh 10 lbs each
Spring and fall
How long did it take to do that it looks like a lot of work?
Part 1&2 were shot in one day, may seem a lot of work but it’s a small yard so it was ok. 👍🏼
