Timelapse lawn renovation in a shady spot

  • This lawn renovation includes scarifying heavily, overseeding and topdressing. The garden is in a partially shaded area and struggles with leaves each winter.
    When I arrived the customer had removed a number of patio slabs and asked me to seed under those. I hadn't anticipated this, so I did the best I could with what I had brought. Otherwise, I would have brought some additional topsoil in to bring the soil level up a little bit.
    In this video, I mention using a Wolf Garten hand scarifying rake and also a compost spreader.
    You can get the rake head here: amzn.to/3iReFMN and handle here: amzn.to/3tV9Jgr (these come with a 10-year warranty)
    You can get the compost spreader here: www.gardenimports.co.uk/produ...

    As I’m starting to find…. I’m in a new build the lawn It’s full of stones! I moved into the house 6 months ago but soon after moving in I suffered Sepsis losing all my toes then a stroke for just for good measure. I love my gardening and this was my last move in my life and I’m started with a square lawn and that’s it. I’ve sat down on the lawn digging up a border and planted so many things. Everything’s come out lovely in Spring.
    Now I’m starting the right hand side again with a little spade lol I’m determined not to let the garden be awful and so far I love it although I’m doing it sitting down and using my one good arm but I’m doing it. I had my heart set on a little green house but I have no family and no friends here!
    I’m from Doncaster originally and my Son lives in Sprotbrough,,, and now I’m living in Worksop Not too far away … you sound as local as they come? Anywhere near Doncaster by any chance?
    I’m watching your videos intently cos you offset some great advice and share a lot of knowledge on the subject I wish I could afford your help but things all went pear shaped and I lost my car, job, everything cos of my useless health problems. Keep up your good work I have subscribed to your channel!

    • @LawnRight

      Hi, definitely a shaded mix. I would overseed the whole lawn so it all blends in too... even so, you may still get issues as grass does need 3 hours minimum of direct sun to thrive. There are several varieties Ive not tried that claim to work extremely well but havent tried yet.. The only shade mix Ive tried is the hurrels HM5 mix

      Hi all lawns can be saved 😊. That's the good news. Sometimes the simple things make such a big difference. Get a weedkiller on and fertilizer and raise your mower height for the rest of summer.. water twice a week deeply mornings.. come autumn the grass should be stronger, weeds gone, and all it may need is a scarify and aerate

      Hi.. So the more steps done the better the result.. Heavy rain or strong winds can blow or move seeds around.. You will get some germination though... Hi Shaun I've just scalified my lawn (-5) one pass. Should I put A1 Spring fertiliser down now or put seed now with top dressing with my Landzie?

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  Рік тому

      Hi John, if it's looking like theres a few obvious bare spots then it would pay to put some seed down and a covering of soil of compost but if it's literally just "thinner" everywhere you can probably just get away without seeding and pop some fertiliser on.. if you do seed I would probably leave the a1 fert for a month, or if any just a very light dose on. Thanks

I notice you spread compost on the ground before seeding, I didn't realise you could do this as I assumed compost was for beds and when I did a bit of reseeding I bought bags of topsoil which I think was recycled by the council, got to say I found it horrible stuff with loads of inorganic waste matter still visible in it! Should I be ok putting a bit of general purpose compost on my lawn?

      @LawnRight  2 роки тому

      Hi all companies charge differently but for reference it was around half days work so it depends on material cost plus what company wants to earn. If you were getting someone in it would be at least £150.. went for seed due to cost saving. Typically a fraction of turfing cost. I've read and believe turfers charge around £10 to £15 a square metre

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  Рік тому

      Hi.. it all depends what you're starting with.. if you throw seeds onto earth or moss or old grass chances are it wont do very well . So often we dethatch or scarifyto create grooved in the soil..then when you throw seeds they can touch soil and stand a better chance of success..I usually also cover them with a thin layer of compost or topsoil to stop birds and wind moving them around.. finally keep them damp for a few weeks.. aeration helps if it hard and compacted... tilling isnt usually needed
