I had some turf delivered once and asked the bloke if he had any laying tips. He said " yes mate, green side up!"
mike travis 😄
I had some glass delivered a few months ago...guy asked where should he leave it I said just drop it in the hallway....
I got a big roll bubble wrap delivered last year, bloke asked where he should put it - I said pop it in the corner over there.... he's still there now!

I couldn't help thinking a garden roller would have come in handy.
Why not just get a roller
come on now .. buy - rent or borrow a roto tiller ! once you laid the new sod ... use your pitch fork and punch a load of hole in all of the pieces of sod , it helps to allow the water to flow to the roots of the grass and it helps to break up the firmly pack soil of the sod !
3:45 everyday we're shuffling
At my college, we called it the penguin dance!
Gotta love Alan. Warm regards from New Zealand and South Africa :)
A serrated bread knife would be a far better for cutting the edges.,,,,,,,, plus i thought you had to remove then bigger stones?
If Alan can't answer these questions there should of been a gardening expert to man this topic to answer our questions.
alan Titmarsh,Alan I bought a Dwarf lilac tree though Groupon about Three/ four years ago..I'm very happy with this shrub,it flowers very nice every year.. I was checking my Garden plants when I noticed that it appeared that another plant is grown by this Dwarf Lilac shrub.I didn't plant myself..I followed the stem down to the ground, when I realised that it was in fact grown out of The lilac tree..this bears no reselblence to Lilac shrub, the leaves are completely different from The Lilac, although it is grown out of the Lilac. Is this unusual,or does it happen,on a regular basis I would be very interested in your reply.Yours truely.Thomas O'Brien.
I was sat outside my local watering hole with my pal and a truck with a load of lawn turf passed by and I remarked that I'm going to do that when I win the lottery , he said " what get your lawn professionally turfed " I replied no I'm going to get it sent away to get cut!!! 😋😋😂😂
Loads of big stones left in there old boy...
This garden is lovely unlike that at his House in Alderney, Channel Islands which is rather unkempt, but then again the Alderney house isn’t kept for the enjoyment of the garden rather it’s kept for the enjoyment of knowing one is paying far less tax than his neighbours in Medstead, England. After all he is a BBC presenter.
What do you do if your turf isn't good quality 😟
Thank you, Alan. You were definitely my “go to” Man, so I could learn how to lay my new lawn. Thank you for such a helpful and easy to understand video. Thank You. x
Gee it's going to take me a year with all the digging (I'm disabled)what a pain
Why didn't he use a roller
We used a crate and dragged it around
Thanks Alan made my job a lot easier
I don't have any friends to help.😒
Great video. What organic matter should I use? I am on a budget and this is a full lawn replacement.
Moving into a new home with no grass, so thanks for the tips Alan!
Lol a much easier way to compact the soil is to lay an mdf board on the soil and walk on it, 10 times quicker and looks much better and is far more level. Come on Alan!
steviemax147 I
Or a roller
All the turf-laying guides I've found so far seem to skip the process of levelling the ground first when it's very bumpy and uneven. With a big area you just can't do this by eye and feel. I think it's going to prove to be a bit technical and involve spirit levels, pegs, string and very long lengths of timber? Any tips anyone?
Yeah use your missus and a scaffolding board.
Hi , thanks for this helpful video I would like to learn can we use cylinder after lay down all turf .Thanks
Hi Alan im fan of yours i need some advice and tip to plant north faceing garden in london uk i cant afford to pay someone to do it for me many thanks
big up Alan Titchmarsh
Can I lay weed control membrane before topsoil
That's exactly what I've always wondered. Heard many say this is the thing to do
Thank you Alan, I hope this instruction for humongous garden spaces also works on my little lawny.
Carpets are for Houses, seed is for lawn... learn how to level, de-stone, rake, fertilise, rake, seed, rake, water and grow a real lawn. And then my son, you will be a real Greener!
i did exactly that, the reward is much greater
Very good video.
Anyone know where to get the fork and rake he's using in the video?
Sandy Sehmi b&q I've got the same one
They look like “De Wit” tools which I’ve never seen in B&Q, Waitrose sell them tho hence why he’s using them, there is also Sneeboer & Zn both are a traditional Dutch handmade tools
Good show man...
Very nice!
Your health fitness is zero 🚶🏽♂️
Alan is a machine🤣
Doing our new landscape. Thanks for your help Alan! I am now ready to pull up my sleeves, garden boots on and guess what I'll do next :-). Happy gardening!...
Hi my name is Samantha, can i use weed killer before laying down the turf ?
Samantha De Jonge Hi This May be to late for you now but I wouldn’t recommend doing that as the weed killer will be soaked in the soil, which will taint the newly layed turf as certain weed killers won’t distinguish between weed/grass/plants.
Very good Alan but wheres your knee pads, I would expect a professional like your self to have all the safety gear to set a good example.
bbew007 ...safety gear he's laying a lawn for god sake.
bbew007 eat grass!!!
Knee pads and a back brace prevent a bad back
Alan is a machine though lol
Safety gear???? 😂😂😂 you wet wipe. Hes paying turf not going to war. Cotton wool anyone
