I get very sad and emotional and happy watching this . brings back alot off memories growing up in manchester england my mums favourite show I was only about 5 or 7 years old but I can still remember my mum and dad sitting on the couch having there cup off tea and coffee on a cold night watching this program every week , I missu mum and dad so very much , I wish you were still alive so I can talk to u brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it love you
In Canada we grew up thinking that England was an almost mythical place full of people wearing business suits or full formal attire, bowler hats, sitting around and drinking tea, living out scenes like in the show… a sort of "we gotta look up to those guys" kind of ideals. Kinda funny now that I think back on it...

>>Liam: It's a real shame they didn't let you go to school while you were in prison in Canada. Even Ken "Casanova" Barlow could have taught you how to write in English. Still, I'm sure your French is just fine.
Captain Sparky I have a deaf neighbor and she always has corrie turned up at the highest limit that the tv can go on the volume and it is so loud yet calming
Wow, this actually made me cry. Especially the 2002 intro, the signature single cat meow. I was always allowed to stay up an hour past my bedtime if Coronation street with on. I would watch it with my Mom. I never knew how much I would come to cherish those moments with her
The CGI used in the 2002 title sequence is very good for the time. Seamlessly adding the street into rows of others. And the tram. Very well done. I remember being about 12 and my mother telling me that the street was actually a set and there weren't other streets or a real tram. I was amazed!
Was it really CGI? To be honest, I always assumed they just found an estate of similarly looking terraced houses and dressed one of the streets to look like Coronation Street.
my mums favourite show growing up in england , I remember sitting on the living room floor with my brothers and sisters and mum and dad watching in on the tele in the seventies and eighties im pretty sure everyone else was too wonderful memories
So nostalgic to hear the music theme. Coronation Street was shown in my country in the 70's, at 10pm. I could only watch half way before my late dad would chase me off to bed as l need to be up early for school. Certainly reminds me of my dad.
My grandmother's all time favourite show, lots of great childhood memories watching Coronation Street with her. Still to this day, one of the most iconic TV themes ever
weird that a cat walking across a rooftop is one of the most iconic images in modern British culture lol. Every time they tried a new intro that didn't have a cat in it there were nearly riots in the streets
Well, it was a new era for television, not many people wanted depression. Yes, the original focus was to watch the lives of Manchester’s residents of a backstreets gloomy ally, but now they have to keep up with the times
Did anyone else play “I saw the cat first!” Growing up? Basically as soon as you saw the cat you had to be the first one to say “I saw the cat first!” I used to play that with my family when I was a child (I didn’t really understand the show at the time but loved the cat). Now I play this game with my husband and we both get very competitive with it.
It's a bit too slick looking, the grimy working class look of the older intros is the whole point. The 70s and 80s ones capture the atmosphere the best, though I remember the 90's intro most, that's the one when I was growing up.
I’m glad I saw this because I thought I was going crazy. There’s a clarinet part which has been added in the 2010 rendition of this piece. It wasn’t there in the original piece and then later on in 2010 it appeared. Now, it’s disappeared again… now I know I’m not going mad, well not because of this anyway…
90's intro definitely the best, fantastic shots of the telephone pole, high rise flats, the terraced rooftops and that shot of the desolate back alleyway really transmits the monotony of life in the towns of the North West.
I mean even back in the 80s, the North West was THE place for music in the UK. It's where the scene was. And these days it's even better. The North West is a hotbed of all types of art and culture. Music is just everywhere, the only places that compare are places like Memphis in the US where every bar there has a musician or band playing. Well in Liverpool and Manchester it's like that, it's hard to find a pub that _doesn't_ have a band on. I love it. That's why I moved to Liverpool from London. London is just full of people who hate everyone. The people up here though are so incredibly friendly
All the intros and programmes up to and including 2002 are the best ones, after that it all started going downhill. I like the slow full theme from 4:41. Gets the foot tapping to the beat
If you want to see a live performance of this you will find it under Lancashire Blues, the theme's real title performed by Carl Woodoison on trumpet with myself accompanying him. I hope you all enjoy it.
I have never been as keen on the latest version of the titles, they show Manchester city centre instead of the terraces of Salford. I like all the old titles, especially the black and white version with the smoky chimneys and also the version with the ginger cat

the new theme tune is so lazy, just a dumbed down version of the original - suits the current product. Loved the intros through the years - great upload
I think that this Show and The Themes To The Young & The Restless never changed their theme as well as The Bold & The Beautiful. Can you imagine the Bank that Henry Mancini gets when Nadia's Theme is played.

I could listen to this theme song all day! Very relaxing.
It's truly one of the more haunting theme entrances of any show ever, plus it has a snappy under beat that softens it's intent.
spot on.
The only reason I watched when I was a kid was just to get seeing the cat snuggling up on the roof at 1:28.
