Sifi, to answer your question about signatures on their guitars, Derek doesn't have any, but Susan's '93 Fender American Standard Telecaster is signed by Clarence Gatemouth Brown, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, and Herbie Hancock among others.
If you get a chance to see this band, take it! You absolutely get the unmatched musicality of them! Derek is one of the finest guitarists I've ever seen, but I love to see Susan take a solo too. And the band has no weaknesses...the best touring band around.
A great band. This is an old video, Oteil Burbridge (Bass) is now with Dead and Company and Kofi Burbridge (Keys) has since passed of complications from a previous heart surgery in Feb. of 2019 (RIP). Background singer Mike Mattison and Susan wrote this song, one of thier best! Thanks for reacting. Derek Trucks is the nephew of the now defunct Allman Bros Band (ABB) drummer Butch Trucks.
Derek is the nephew of The Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks and played in the Allman Brothers for many years and yes they are from Florida. Derek is considered by many the best slide guitar player alive. Both he and Susan had amazing bands before joining their bands. Best live show in the business. Definitely catch them if you can. Susan can shred too on Pity the Fool Derek leaves the stage. That is a good one to watch But there isn’t a bad one to watch either. Lol
Derek is a child prodigy- been playing since he was 11 years. Susan is from Massachusetts- she attended the Berklee School of Music - arguably our best music school.
I saw Derek back in 1991 in a club in Palm Bay Florida. He was 12 years old, and you would have thought, Oh this is a novelty act....Noooooo the kid could play. Then in 1997 i saw him again, with his own band when he was just 18 years old, and he shocked me, of just how GREAT he got. It was mind blowing! Then in 2000 i saw him when he was the NEW GUY in The Allman Brothers Band, and still touring with his own band. The past 25 years, Derek has re-invented how to play guitar. He is a very different breed! To this day, they still do this tune, and you will never hear the same opening or solo from Derek! He is one of those few musicians that plays for the moment. He has always had me scratching my head, as to where does it come from. There are shows on UA-cam when he was really young, and as a teenager, and many shows with the Allman's, His band The Derek Trucks Band, and this Band, with a new lineup...which is an 11 piece band... The Tedeschi Trucks Band..... There is a Dave Mathews live show from 2022 where he brings Derek out to play with his Band...and Derek's solo and outro is SO GOOD Dave left out the final versus of the song, which is called "LIES IN OUR GRAVES" It is a MUST LISTEN!! ua-cam.com/video/AgUl79k5UNk/v-deo.html
There have been some fantastic young guitar players that are going to be the best to ever have played. Derek Trucks, Joe Bonamassa and the current is Taj Farrant. His first album is already #2 on Billboard Blues charts and has been #1 on iTunes worldwide blues charts. He doesn't get starstruck much because the people he's played with and met just play guitar like him. I guess he met Tedeschi Trucks last spring at the Byron Bay Blues festival and his dad said he was a little starstruck then. He said he didn't ask to have his picture taken with anyone but a number of the acts asked to have their picture with him. I love this song. What I like about Taj is he plays real music too. Interesting, Duane Allman in Derek Trucks definitely influenced. People keep saying Taj is constantly being compared to and people say the reincarnation of Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jimi Hendrix or Gary Moore. I like to think his spirit was getting guitar lessons and jamming with all of them. He does resemble SRV a little but he plays a song your familiar with and then takes it on a Taj journey. I recently saw him live and he feels every note and takes you on a journey where you feel them too. When the show is over you come back to reality and remember he's only 15.
@@valogden Those mentioned have not even come close to Derek's genius! 25 years ago Derek was head and shoulders above those you mentioned. I am NOT a fan of Bonamassa, because to me, he is the biggest copy cat of other guitar players. When i hear Joe, i can tell you through the years, who he was trying to be or copy. Very un-original! Trucks is in a class by himself. As guitar player magazine said years ago, Trucks has reinvented how to play the guitar. As for young Taj??? Not hearing much originality...Two other real good ones...Marcus King; and Gary Clark Jr.
Yes there's Allman Brothers DNA there, as has been mentioned, Derek opened for ABB as a teenager, then joined at 18, met Susan when she opened fir ABB in New Orleans, this song was written by Mike Mattison, the back up singer on the right
In 1997 at The Sebastian Beach Inn Bar and restaurant. A Blues Band i was in opened for The Derek Trucks Band, and he was incredible! One of my favorite musicians of all time. Along with Jimmy Herring!! Jimmy and Derek did the two guitar line-up for the summer/fall in 2000 with the Allman Brothers. I saw one of those shows, and it was memorable to say the least!
The current band is Derek and Susan, 3 horns, 2 drummers, bass 3 backup singers, keyboards. I saw them at SPAC in Saratoga Springs NY in August, greatest touring band now.
Saw this band at Red Rocks 7/28 and 7/29 2023 !! Absolutely Magical!! Had such a wide array of different musical styles. There covers of a few classics were just so good!
I got to hear Derek play at a local venue, "The Moon", when he was 13 years old. He was too cute: a 13 year old boy dressed as a typical 13 year old 7th grader, including high top tennis shoes, unlaced. But his guitar playing was FAR better than what you'd expect from a boy that age. I was also VERY impressed by how naturally humble he was during his entire performance. No struttin' around the stage with his chest puffed out and head held high, just calmly standing behind a mike stand and playing the hell outta his guitar. I was SUPER impressed! And happy to see that he's still humble and grateful for his "gift." 💕 BTW, on the far left of the photo on the inside cover of the Allman Brother's album, "Brothers and Sisters", the couple standing with bell bottom jeans are holding Derek and his sister, Melody.
They are one of the most talented groups of today. They may not be the genre you usually listen to, but there is no denying their talent. Derek is the nephew of Butch Trucks, one of the drummers from the Allman Brothers Band.
Great performance and great reaction SAD! One of those songs that evokes multiple emotions. The vocals & guitar were excellent but the Hammond/Leslie organ made it legit! Shout out to Thomas for putting this in the poll. Great pick bro!
@@SightAfterDark One of the rare bands that sound BETTER than they do on an album .. one of those bands that other musicians sit and listen to and are just blown away.. And yes, they are arguably the best live band touring. Do not miss them if you get a chance.
Seen Derek Trucks umpteen times with the Allman Brothers Band, Phil Lesh and Friends and a couple of other spots. Only seen Susan Tedeschi one time, with The Other Ones, ex-Grateful Dead members, and she was amazing. Next on the list, see THIS band, every video I've seen of them has been fantastic, including this one. Otiel Burbage on the Bass, seen him a few times too.
Derek has been playing professionally since he was 12 . The Derek Trucks band had it's 1st major label release in 1997 on RCA when Derek was still a teen . He was recruited to the Allman Brothers Band in 1999 at the ripe old age of 20 when Jack Pearson , who was a brief replacement when guitarist Warren Haynes & also bassist Allen Woody left the ABB to focus on their power trio band Gov't Mule . The Derek Trucks band continued on as his personal side project when the ABB wasn't busy . Then Derek wound that band down & he and Susan began playing together .
Bass Player and Keyboardist were brothers, Kofi and Otiel Burbridge, originally from the Bronx..Kofi passed away from heart failure in 2019, at 57. He was a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, and had perfect pitch. Otiel is his younger brother.
just got home an hour ago from their show at kings theatre brooklyn....and let me tell you-BEST DAMN BAND IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW...go find their show from tonight & listen to it. 9/28/24
Yes both Susan and Derek have autographed guitars. Signed by great musicians they played with although they are very humble and don't talk alot about who the autographs are. Derek as a child and teen opened for Allman Brothers and Eagles and you can in some performances see those signatures. Susan also at a very young age opened for BB King, Rolling Stones, Johnny Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy all signed her guitar among others .
@@SightAfterDark Same, big fan of and have seen both Eagles and Allman Brothers in concert. Meet cute story of Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. 1999 Derek was playing for the Allman Brothers and Susan was their opening band. They've now been married for 24 years. The comparison of Derek Trucks to Duane Allman very common, Eric Clapton has said he loves playing with Derek because he reincarnates Duane through his guitar. Great performances of Derek Trucks playing Duane's Gibson Goldtop Tedeschi Trucks Band "Bound For Glory" live in Atlanta and Allman Brothers with Eric Clapton "Why Does Love Have To Be So Sad".
Actually the Goldtop Les Paul of Duanes is in The Big House museum in Georgia, however Derek plays it all the time, one of very few. Derek's SG was given to him by Galadrial Allmen, Duane's daughter

I get your feelings about this song. I have seen this band several times, and everytime, I have came away with a perfect contentedsmile on my face. All of the musicians are all world and they all wanted nothing more than to be there.
There’s something really wrong with the sound quality. This is my current favorite band. I’ve heard this performance 100 times easily. But yours sounds warbled like bad vinyl. I was super excited to see you get to know this band but I can’t hear them sound like this 🤷♂️
Nothing more than OK for me. Half decent musicians playing quite predictable music. I wouldn't turn it off if it was on the radio but at the same time, this doesn't inspire me to want to hear more of them. Can see why they are popular in the States.
This is an example of the music playing the musicians...is when the musicians get out of the way of the music...then it just flows! You got it guys!
Brilliant band,Derek Trucks is argueable the world's best slide player.
