Morning Teacher T. The 650 Super Meteor with your current seat configuration looks good in my opinion. She looks even better with the rear passenger seat removed. But for long distance cruising, the Royal Enfield touring seat wins down on comfort for rider and passenger alike. The proof of the pudding was my mates wife. 150 miles into our Cornish ride she jumped on mine and said, oh yes this is much better. Cruising around Cornwall she kept asking to ride on my bike. And coming home she said to her husband... You gotta get one of these seats with a back rest. He quickly turned into someone from the Ministry of Dirty Looks. But Bev was smiling all the way to Wales and back recently as he had fitted the back support and touring seat! I'd take that as a sign 😊👍 . Enjoyable vid sir and I hope Mrs T will soon feel the benefit of the touring seat. Safe riding till next time...
We will get some decent Kim’s in this weekend, and do a review video. I’ve also got an after market seat coming to review. Good old Cornwall. I do miss the place sometimes 😂🙏
If you think that was hard, you should try installing the genuine panniers without instructions, which is impossible. I therefore went on line and after 5 minutes discovered RE have illustrated instructions for their accessories ! BTW. I bought the Meteor touring version and have never experienced issues of discomfort from that seat, or from the standard shockers. The seat is so comfortable in fact that my 47Kg wife fell asleep once, and only woke up when her helmet hit the back of mine !! I can also highly recommend the benefits of the touring windshield.
Your wife sounds like mine. Mrs T is a,ways falling asleep on the back of the bike. The verdict will be out on the touring seat next week, after a week of riding. Also some after market seats coming to review 🙏
UR reviews are really practical and genuinely helpful and about this video I am already using the same and my opinions are the same like you..🤗 🫶 and even I am also awaiting to change the touring seat by next month...hope by the mean time I will see your review also
I really don’t understand why RE didn’t put some sort of quick release mechanism on the seats. I find it irritating to take the seat off mine with the hex bolts in between the front and rear seat. Good instruction video for others. Well done. I’m glad Mrs T was happy with it. I put a top box on mine when my girlfriend is pillion. No. 3 option looks best I think.
Hi Teacher T, I like the look of the two separate seats with the back rest. I have the touring seat anyway and that has only one bolt at the back, so it’s much easier to take off. . Another brilliant video. You will both notice a softer ride with the touring seat. 😊
Thanks. Have you ever removed the touring seat? I have the bracket with the one bolt, but nothing under the seat that it screws into. Do you have the back rest? I’m being told with the back rest, no need for that single bolt on the back. Confused lol 🙏
I have seen these seats up close at the dealership on different bikes, side by side, and I really like the look of #1 best. I have never taken a passenger on any of my bikes, but from an atheistic perspective...I think #3 looks better than the custom seat #4 and #2 would be my last choice. Having said that, the old adage certainly comes into play here...happy wife, happy life!
My absolute favourite is #2, although for pratical reasons I usually use #1. Love your videos, I've been watching you for a few months now, I just found out I wasn't subscribed 😯
On other channel I've seen that RE does not invlude any instruction but on the the box of each part you order there is a QR code leading to virtual instruction or a quick move showing how to instal those parts.
I'd say No3 looks good, but if No4 with the touring seat is a vast comfort improvement I would be happy with that too. Looks especially good with the panniers
The verdict will be out on the touring seat after we use it for a week. It’s amazing how you can get different looks on this bike, with little changes 🙏
Without doubt #2 is the best, but like you I have to cater to a 'Mrs T' so I'll be looking to go for #3 or #4 at some point. It's just the cost of the touring seat and the pillion rest assembly, very expensive! Look forward to seeing/hearing next weeks verdict :D
Hi Trev, another good video. Imo, id have to say #2 looks best, but for touring, #4 is by far the most practical (for my needs and size) I do hope Mrs T likes that new touring seat. Do you find the 2 piece with back rest looks a little odd around the side frames? Also, my saddleman tactical bag fits perfectly on the touring seat..
Hi, Mr. T. How are you? I watched your video in which you presented a problem with the saddlebag spacer and the rear shock absorber of a Shot Gun 650 and had to re-install your spacer on your SM650. I ask: is it improper to attach the spacer to the upper bolt of the shock absorber? Should it be attached to the screw housing next to the bolt that secures the shock absorber? Can attaching the spacer at two points (top and bottom), with the vertical movement of the motorcycle in motion, cause fatigue of the spacer material? Finally, the shock absorber bolt together with the spacer is tightened to 50 N/m. Is that correct? Best regards.
Thanks for watching. RE recommend between 40 and 50 NM torque on the top and bottom rear suspension bolts. So safe to say 45NM really. That incident happened on a SM650. Nothing was attached to the swing arm. So it’s ok to attach to the top of the suspension only. RE recommend the hole spacer next to it. Which is how their panniers fit. But on the Shotgun the rear pillion seat sub frame attaches to the top of the suspension, the same. 😂🙏
Hello mr. T, I have been watching your videos for quite some time now, specially the content you make on super meteor 650. I really love and appreciate your attention to detail over making your ride more soothing experience. I have noticed you using the 'RE' recommended torque spec. on many occasions. Those torque specs are not mentioned in the 'owners manual'. I believe you have acquired a 'service manual' of SM 650. Please can you provide info on how you did that? Thank you
Many thanks. Sadly not. No book available to the public so far. I just email Royal Enfield each time, and I eventually get a response and share my findings with you guys 🙏
#3 and 4 probably feel the same to the pillion passenger. I would be interested to hear how those two differ and feel to the driver. And both look very nice to me.👍
No caps to cover the 4 bolts? 4 looks real comfy and you can use the backrest as a helmet holder When do you plan to ride to the south? I live in Phang Nga, ride 2 Vulcan 900's but like to purchase a RE.
Hi Teacher T, Do you think (or know) if this seating arrangement will fit the Shotgun 650? Enjoy you videos, keep up the good work. No.4 gets my vote. Regards Gaz (Australia)
Sorry Gaz. No it won’t fit. The rear fender is not weight supporting like the Meteor is. Hence the rear pillion seat is bolted on as a subframe. I will be reviewing some after market seats soon.
I neee your opinion on these..... If you don't (very rarely) ride beyond 90 Km/hr... . Between Meteor 350 & SM650, how would you choose, why? . Would you do a video on this choice rational 😊
If you live in a flat area, the 350 is just fine. However going over hills and mountains, the 650 doesn’t lose any power at all, and is safer for that reason. No cars overtaking you on corners going up hills. I made a video about my transition Meteor 350 to 650. RE Meteor 350 to 650. Should you upgrade? ua-cam.com/video/lYvHfEHD-28/v-deo.html
Very interesting, I didn't know you could even fit the back rest with the standard seat. I've gone the other way on my Celestial Blue Super Meteor. I swapped out the touring seat for the standard seat because I couldn't fit a top box with the touring seat on.. And I actually find the standard seat more comfortable than the fancy touring seat. It also looks from your video that the front bracket for the pillion seat is part of the touring seat kit? I thought that bracket was different on the touring seat? If it's the same that would be great as the bracket for the pillion seat didn't come with the standard seat kit I bought, and you can't buy the bracket separately so I didn't think I would be able to fit the pillion seat at all, I hope I'm wrong. Purely for looks I like #2, cheers!
Many thanks for voting. It’s between 2 and 4 at the moment. I never knew the back rest actually lifter the rear seat angle. And that’s a vast improvement for her. But touring seat review this weekend.🙏
Hi, there is only one bolt that is at the number plate end and there is tongue at the other end and yes I have the back rest on. If you would like me to take a couple of pics I can. 😊
I’m missing lounge under the seat. I have the bracket with the Allen key bolt though. If you could send photos that would be great. To see what I’m missing under the seat. I did message RE. They say no longer needed. The back rest holds things in place, which it kind of seems to do. I don’t k ow how you can send pics though? Thanks in advance 🙏

A close call, both 3 and 4 look super comfortable, so down to the boss of the show Mrs.T.
Ha ha. She will get interviewed tomorrow for next weeks touring seat review video. 🙏
#2 for me, until my boys are older and my Mrs gives them permission to get on with me it'll be that look. Great video as always Mr T.

Yes, a key like the new Himalayan to remove the rear seat would have been ideal. Many thanks. I’m warming to number 3 also 🙏
Money saving? Same for the cast brakets, cheaper to make.
My SM 650 celestial blue came with the touring seat as standard. I do like the look of option 2 , with the rack fitted.
