I have a friend which has the same problem with his wife, her legs used to get numb or pain because of the way the leather is stitched on the sides of his meteor 350 supernova. His solution was to get a kind of a seat cover that he puts on the pillion seat, only when she is riding with him. I believe this is the same problem you have with the sahara seat because it is the same style of seat. This also explains why Mrs. T felt more comfortable when you changed the angle on the seat. She sat more on the wider part of the seat and put lower pressure on the legs around the beeding on the front of the pillion seat.
I have the touring model and find it extremely comfortable. I have done a 3,000 km trip on it with no issues, although I replaced the crappy shocks on my return to Brisbane. My partner is yet to pillion with me. I went on the One Day ride in Brisbane on Sunday, 110 riders turned up to Toogoolawah. Great day out. Mark (on partners account)
The touring seat is much better than the single / dual seat. And yes the rear shocks have to be changed to save your spine on long journeys. I'm finding the Sahara seats better again. So is Mrs T now we've taken the genuine RE back rest off. I've now ordered an aftermarket one. 🙏
Thanks for the Great Video Mr T! :) I was genuinely considering the Sahara seat a few days ago. However, I went on with shaving off a centemeter each from each side of the rider's seat and adding some soft cushion towards the back of the seat. I had the same problem of my legs spreading apart when I sat on the back of the stock seat and now I feel much better. I think it was the width of the stock seat that was the problem. I have also modified the stock pillion seat. I have added a layer of Firm padding on top of the seat. This made the seat thicker vertically. Again I took soft foam, 1 inch thick, and have encased the whole seat (with the hard foam in it) like a burrito. This again added vertical thickness as well as an inch of horizontal thickness on each side. My wife is the similarly built as Mrs T, probably a couple of inches shorter, and she finds it absolutely comfortable. Fun Fact: Me and my wife watched this video together and she was immediately smitten by Mrs T. and is now wearing the same hairstyle as her. As for the backerst, I have been using a backrest from bykology since the last one year, which my wife finds very comfortable. Although, it looks like it is sticking to the seat, however, I can't say it is very close. However, it looks very nice on the bike. Here is the link: bykology.com/product/super-meteor-650-detachable-backrest-with-luggage-rack/ It is currently showing out of stock, however, when I had ordered the backrest, I directly contacted the manufacturer over phone and placed the order. I think they manufacture this on demand.
After a 7‘000 km trip through South-East Europe this summer on the unmodified SM 650 I invested in exactly this Sahara single seat with gel included and a pair of YSS rear shocks. So far I am happy with both, and as you I very much like the look of the stitched seat. Still having to stand the rain-proof test.
Good to hear. I’m tempted to try the YSS shocks soon. But the Hagons I have fitted are much better. Do you remember how much you paid for postage to Europe? And did you get hit with import tax? 🙏
Very interesting Teacher T. I have to say that I am a bit dubious as to the quality of that after market seat, it looks okay on top but underneath is a mess! My Super Meteor came with the deluxe touring seat but I have put the standard RE seat on mine and find it much more comfortable and stylish. Horses for courses I guess. Loving your channel, cheers mate!
The Sahara seats are very comfortable for me. And hopefully for Mrs T soon, with a little modification, typical Indian street made quality, but it works 😂. Thanks for your support 👍🙏
That aftermarket seat looks nice, but I'd keep my original touring seat. It has crossed my mind to get my seat covered in diamond stitch leather? Done that on many bikes that I've owned in the past. I know any excuse to pop into the garage and get the Dubbin Wax out when the mother-in-law comes round 😊👍.
@@Teacher-T-Thailand And I have the touring seat. I've also gone down the Shad route for panniers and top box (hence the Shad backrest). Love your videos 👍
I highly recommend the GIVI TS9058B with additional luggage rack. My Mrs loves it. I hate the look of the RE touring seat, so I am sticking with the tiny original one as I am not riding with pillion that much often, and considering buying a cushion like the ComfortAir Seat Cushion.
The Sahara seats look really nice, I think the height is a bit of a pain especially for me, but dang they look good. I'd be sorely tempted with the low rider one too, maybe being not as thick it would suit a shorter legged person better? The seats look reasonably priced, but the quality underneath is a little concerning, stitching looks decent though. Tough decision as I too need a rear seat for my wife...this has been a great little series thank you :D
You've got to do a review for the low rider sahara seat man. For all the Short Kings here 🗿💪. (If it's decently comfortable along with being lower in height, then it's bang ON for anyone below 5'8) P.S. - also try the rider backrest ✌️

Thanks for another interesting video. I have to ask if you have had any experience with Aramex shipping and duty fees from importing from India? The reason I ask is that I ordered some crash bars from an Indian supplier for my super meteor 650 and the supposed Thai mport charges were an additional 6000 THB on an item that I only paid 4,000 THB for! I asked Aramex to send it back as I am refusing to get fleeced like this. Im not sure or not if the shipper will work with Aramex to have them return it as I do not have in my possession but I believe eBay will step in and help if need be after a few more days. Anyway just thought I would put it out there as a heads up to anyone else who lives in Thailand and may be ordering from India. Buyer beware..
I only had to pay 550 baht to DHL for my import charges on the seat. And 200 baht of that was admin fees. A correct shipper would pay all fees in advance, speeding up the delivery process. Never heard of Aramex, but yes I would refuse a charge of 6,000 baht also. Every import I have had in Thailand has been shipped by DHL, and it works. Insist they ship with DHL in the future. 🙏
Thanks again and My guess was correct on Sahara. Did you get them with the Gel added or without Gel ? they have an option to add a layer of Gel which makes it softer.
