  • This video shows where the sensors are located and their purpose. This is 1984 specific but the locations can be used on most C4 Corvettes the big difference is the ECM's coolant sensor location which would be in a different location on the other model years due to the different style intake manifolds. Also the ECM coolant sensor and connector is no longer available for the 1984 and must be changed out to the newer style sensor and connector.

    Awesome to see all the locations clearly. These locations are the same for 1985 .
    One small point is regarding the Oil Pressure Switch. The switch is not needed to power the fuel pump. It is only there as a backup should the fuel pump relay fail. If you have a good operational relay, you can disconnect the oil pressure switch. Typically when the fuel pump relay fails you will often get a fault code 54. This code sets when the voltage at the Fuel pump monitor circuit of the ECM does not see above 2 volts in 1.5 seconds. It basically means the FP relay has failed. However, the fuel pump will run when the oil pressure gets above 4 psi which will close the oil pressure switch enough to get power to the fuel pump. This usually takes a longer crank time ,than when the fuel pump relay is operating. The oil pressure switch also acts as a safety device while driving so that the fuel pump will continue to run , even if the FP relay fails while on the highway.
    The fuel pump relay is triggered on for the key on 2 second prime AND while reference pulses come from the HEI distributor to the ECM on the purple / wht wire.

      @@84c4corvetteguy5 I did not mention, but you probably already know, you can turn the fuel pump on to see if it is working by taking 12 v power into the Diagnostic G terminal in the car. The relay used on these have an extra connection to accomplish this without turning the key. If you turn the key this method will not work. I have had an 85 vette since 1988. I am always interested in learning more especially about the 2 year only 82 and 84 Cross Fire. I especially like the videos on the dual injector setup , and EGR stuff. Too bad they did not use a pressure tap to check the fuel...like on the 85 rail.

      @@danieljurgill1681 I did know that you can turn on the fuel pump, a pretty cool diagnostic tool. Once again I appreciate your comments and watching my videos and I hope you get something out of them.

    I have a 95 corvette and i cannot find my oil temperature sensor even above the oil filter ??

      It does not look like mine on the later cars it has more than 1 wire but it should be right around the oil filter area. Here is a picture of what yours look like. Why does your 84 have two sensors and mine does not?? Mine has the 3 prong larger sensor.

    • @84c4corvetteguy5
      @84c4corvetteguy5  8 місяців тому

      I beleive the 3 wire came out later in production. what year is your C4? If your car has a 3 wire sensor it is both a switch for the fuel pump and a sensor for the oil pressure, the early cars had 2 switches/sensors the later cars had 1 combination switch/sensor. At least thats the way I remember it.

    i got a 1990, is it possible to remove the oil pressure sensor without taking the wiper motor out>? and if there is a leak at the sensor, can i just put sealant on the treat and put it back on, or does it need a new sensor? sensor works ok.....

    • @84c4corvetteguy5

      I'm not sure if the wiper motor has to come out on the LT1 engine to get room. I would tend to think you can sneak in there with the right wrenches. As far as do you have to replace the sensor, if it is leaking at the threads No you can just unscrew it and add thread sealant or Teflon tape and reinstall it no problem but if the seam of the sensor is leaking then the sensor must be replaced. I have seen many engines that leak from the pipe that screws the sensor to the block so look at that carefully as well. I hope this helps, Thanks for watching!

      I believe in 89 you would have one 3 wire sensor that takes place of the two sensors that are on my car.
