Collecting watches, or anything for that matter, is an escape from reality. It also serves as an opportunity for us to do the things we like (learn, appreciate beautiful things, etc). Unfortunately, in my opinion, collecting could also be an opportunity for us to make up for the insecurities we have about ourselves.
In my humble opinion: I began watch collecting thinking I knew a lot about watches & horology! As anything else in life the more knowledge you acquire about a subject the more you understand that you will always have new horizons to discover. While meeting & talking to watch collectors you open a pandora box which will never cease to increase in knowledge & fun. The Swatch Group recent policy (a few years back) has ostracized the ease of access in this quality hobby, luckily other watch suppliers have appeared to get new watch collectors & tinkers in the hobby.
Watches represent a beautiful fusion of art and science, where intricate designs and meticulous craftsmanship intertwine with sophisticated engineering and precision mechanics. Each timepiece is not merely a tool for tracking time but a testament to human creativity and ingenuity. From the delicate intricacies of the dial to the intricate movements within, every aspect of a watch reflects a blend of artistic expression and scientific innovation. It's a symphony of gears, springs, and wheels working in perfect synchrony to capture the elusive essence of time, while also serving as a canvas for art through design, materials, and embellishments. To me, my L&H and GO pieces epitomize this!
Watches is the last thing in this day and age we fully “own.” Everything these days is a “subscription” or a “loan” or something we use and throw away.
Akmaster, the hat (with the HSNY logo) was given to me when I attended the Horological Society of New York Gala. I checked the HSNY 'Shop' (hs-ny.org/shop) and didn't see any there. If you're a member of the HSNY, you might send them an email and ask if any are still available, or drop by the HSNY offices in New York City. Take care, Bill

Wearing a watch makes me feel part machine.

I collect because in the most conservative circumstance it's the most acceptable piece of jewelry for men.
Why I collect? Because financial freedom, retirement, safety net and other concepts are overrated 😂
