At some point I’m planning on making a pretty thick platinum ring with a gold band down the middle all the way around it, idk when but I’m slowly starting to gather the stuff for the project

The ring turned out great! So glad to see videos of people working with platinum. I love platinum, but boy is it a pain in the bottom to work with when it comes to melting, fusing, and/or soldering. I do a lot of mixed metals when i work with platinum and will usually do a gold and platinum combo. I dont have a torch hot enough to melt the platinum so i will just add gold like a makume gane type of mix and fuse the gold parts which ends up fusing it all together. If that makes any sense? Haha. May i ask what solder you used? Sorry if you already mentioned it, i tried going back thru the video but dont see anywhere. Anyways, you've got a new subscriber here:) i hope to see many more videos of yours:)

Very nice video! Did you use platinum weld to solder the band closed?

What type of torch did you use? I’m planning on buying a decent torch but want to choose one that will get hot enough to work on platinum. Any recommendations? Thanks

I just used a Gtech Type S Oxy/propane heating torch. I normally use a Model O, but it wasn’t big enough for melting the platinum. Got it all from SPA Welding www.spawelding.com/gas-welding-cutting/cutting-welding-torches

When you heat metal until you get red and then cool it down quickly, You make the metal harder...Now if you want to soften, it's gotta warm-up and let cool

ALEHANDRO TOLEDO not when you’re working with precious metals. Silver, Gold and Platinum are all water quenched after heating to anneal them. Platinum actually only get hard by working the metal. The more you hit it the more the metal crystals align themselves. You can actually feel it getting harder as you’re hitting it. Here’s a good guide to annealing precious metals... www.stuller.com/benchjeweler/resources/bencharticles/view/annealing-gold/

You needed to heat up the form... that will keep it from splattering

Sadly as I’ve since found out, that form was completely wrong for platinum. It melts at too high a temperature. I should have used an open graphite mould.
      Next time!

Make an HHO gas generator and use oxyhydrogen, I hear it burns realllllyyyy hot.
