I’ve been in the industry for a decade and let me just say, this type of craftsmanship is not only rare it takes a lot of skill, dedication and experience. It’s definitely undervalued and like most other expertises in Jewelery, underpaid... bench jewelers rarely hear a compliment for their hard work.
Everyone here is (rightly) going ga-ga over the ring craftsmanship, and here I am low-key impressed by the fact that your got your camera exposure set just right to stay properly lit and not blow out on the torch shots. Much respect.
The fact that it looks ‘doable’ tells me that he is a master. When someone does something extremely hard and makes it look easy... then you know they’re good
I hope you give these videos to the ring owners. They should see all the effort that goes into their piece. Nice to see it done without lost wax casting.
I’ve been making jewelry for a little over 2 decades and just now made the jump to learning to silversmith. My dad was an excellent silversmith, and I hope he gets back into it now that he is retired. I can’t wait to learn from him! These videos are so inspiring... the talent is uncanny! what do you mean by silversmith? are you making forks, spoons, candle holders, serving trays etc. or are you making your own jewelry out of silver stock? i have been very interested in starting to wax carve spoons maybe a napkin ring of some sort. i just ask because the graduating to gold confused me, ive been a jeweler for about five years now and have worked on all sorts of metals from silver to platinum and gold and they all have difficulties for sure but platinum i find is a tough sumbitch.
Hi jeweler . I have retired after 40 years a goldsmith . I had a colleague who was actually a competitor . He was a trained silversmith from London . He did some beautiful repouse on a gold leaf that was part of a Fabrigee inspired obect of art . Beautifuly fluted leaf . We worked in Vancouver Canada so a big city . He could not make a living doing many wonderful things he did in Britain for the likes of Big money foreigners . He has had to rely on doing the usual contemporary jewelry as people would not pay for the time and effort needed for his expertise in repose . Just a friendly message you could get your father's take on this thought .
I wonder which celebrities this ring went to. How beautiful this piece is . I had no idea so much work, sweat , and love it took to make an engagement ring . Now I will appreciate mine more when it arrives. Just amazing

This is a one sided observation, probably with the intention of virtue signaling. BRAVO! Absolutely stunning and unbelievable craftsmanship. Anyone who is not a master jeweler like this and believes they could accomplish something like this easily, is simply fooling themselves and would likely go broke from having to start over again and again and again.
How do you think people become a "Master Jeweler" this guy probably has made loads of mistakes but has perfected his craft... telling someone not to believe in themselves is pretty degrading
@@UA-camMod I don't think he's telling people not to believe in themselves, just trying to dispel the myth that this work is easy. There are people that come here saying it is and that they can do it, but they never provide the proof because this kind of ring making is art as well as work.

If you’ve read the comments on this video, you’d see that some posts claim they could accomplish this easily and most likely don’t even know what tools they’d need to even get started. That’s degrading. Look at it like this, most people who’ve taken jewelry making seriously, likely wouldn’t ever make a comment like that because they know how hard it is to achieve what you just saw created.
I am a dental technician and I fully understand the very high level of craftsmanship required for this flawless realization. A jewel like this does not deserve a simple lost wax casting. Standing ovation!
@@breakingthemasks for me the fact that a handmade creation gives an added value to the object. I also model by hand, I do not use preforms and I think it is a work of greater value. Of course, if you create the shape by hand in wax and then use the lost wax technique, the work is equally "valuable". in summary I do not appreciate the wax preforms usable by anyone. 🤷♂️ P.s. sorry for my English

Just curious what the benefit is of using a sanding disk that heats the metal up so much. Is it to take away as little metal as possible or are their other reasons?
Hi Jake I use three types of disk , the red ones are corse and the white is very fine sandpaper , the one you see turning the metal red hot takes a lot of metal , the reason I use it is that Platinum is very dense and sticks to the files when filing and some times I bend the metal , so I use the sanding disk to avoid bending the metals , the only inconvenience is that some times I get burn , Thank You and I hope you like the video

As a starting jeweler (4.5y), this is truly inspiring! I'm only starting to work with Platinum, and it is so different from gold (or silver). Super interesting techniques in the video.
Initially he looks like this confused, working on without any planning guy.. then when the bits begin to come together, and the final product begins to take shape, he looks like a genius!
Again, the metalwork is superb. The diamonds at the end are not really interesting or, in the future, valuable given lab-made ones (with imperfections if you wish) are now available at a 10th the price, and without the worry of African miner exploitation or De Beers involvement. But platinum is still rare, hard to extract, and hard to work - it will always hold its value.
We're planning to make more of that "life of a jeweler" kind of content with different people, including Carlos, but the Q&A will probably be better in a livestream format. We need to start livestreaming again soon.
