That stare was looking at the trophy too. He was looking at something that he saw twice now, but couldn't get for a second time now. He qualifies for the candidates again, he has a third chance as long as Magnus doesn't show up and try to take the crown back

0:30 You can tell Ding feels bad for Nepo. When Nepo was devastated, Ding avoids looking at him so as not to make him feel worse. Finally glances at him when he couldn't resist anymore. As if When Nepo was heart broken, Ding could feel his pain. Calmly, shakes his hand 2nd time supportively.
No screams, no fist bumps, just soaking the moment. Ding is gracious, empathetic, humble, relatable and deserving.

Ian Qualified for 2 consecutive candidates back to back.
That is in and of itself a win.
Hard to remember anyone qualifying for back to back so he shouldn't feel bad.
However he should have finished the game in classical format as he had his chances.
He should focus on using the clock to his advantage and think a lot before blitzing out moves in classical format.
If he can improve on that he will definitely be a monster.

Nepo's reaction at 0:30 is genuinely one of the saddest things I've seen. Looking to his side like a child that got lost and tries to find an empathetic face, someone to console him and guide him back to the place, the time, in which he had once felt at ease; his hands pumping with adrenaline, shaking so much that they stumble upon the pieces that took so much to capture, clumsily scattering on the table and the floor, representing all the effort being reduced to nothingness. I can't even imagine the shock of being on the biggest stage of your biggest passion, thinking you'd just transition into the next phase and suddenly realizing your opponent is going for the win with less than five minutes remaining in total, and that he actually has all the chances for it, and that your dream has been inadvertently crushed just like that, dissipated right in front you. I was rooting for Ding the whole way, but that moment made me feel terrible.

He fought well but he has a habit of playing either really well or falling apart.

That was brutal to watch. Was cheering for Ding but seeing Nepo collapse that way was heart breaking. Congrats to Ding for one helluva series.

I like that ding won with a brilliant move, not a full Ian blunder. Congrats to Ding. He’s a calculating genius. But the hurt on Ian face at the end, heartbreaking moment.
