Yeah, he played really well. I think Game 1 make Gukesh realise that Ding is not to be underestimated (since how many people predicted Gukesh would easily destroy Ding). Then, Game 12 shows Gukesh what Ding really capable of if he was at his best and earn Gukesh respect especially him winning on demand. Really wish him could get back into his best form. Lastly, wish Gukesh not ended up like Ding, who get into the pressure of being the WC.
I think he views the support as being from his play, when many fans are instead drawn to how nice and respectful he is. However it goes, I think everyone wishes him well. There are some great players who don't have that support.

Exactly, one of the most exciting and emotional back and forth championships too. I was there, and people were HYPED! So many moments, freezing at the board, his pawn push to a stunning mate in game 6, and rook g6 self-pin with less than a minute on the clock will always be remembered. I still believe he can put up a good fight or even win again, but even if not, it's ok. He's one of the 17 who did it so far

Ding Liren left the biggest impression on me as a first-time chess Olympian in 2018. I was meeting these icons for the first time. We met Ding at the layover in Istanbul on our way to Batumi. His foot was hurt and he was using crutches. We excitedly approached him to say hi...when he saw us coming over, he reached for his crutches, put them under his armpits, struggled (and I mean there was some noticeable difficulty) to stand up! Why? So that he could greet us respectfully, standing, with a kind, respectful smile and true compassion. Mind you, I was a first time, middle aged, African, ELO 2032. In my mind, World Chess Champion Ding Liren is a world champion human being. A great human being!! A great human!! Ding if you read this, thank you!
Ding seems like such a sweetheart. Completely honest. Even admits he may not have ambition to win. I think Gukesh is the favorite, but I think people are also prematurely writing Ding off. I think Ding will surprise some people with how much heart he really has.
If you think about it Ding's greatest attribute that got him the World Championship in the 1st place is heart. The heart to keep trying after his secret account got leaked. The heart to finish Game 4 of rapid instead of going to blitz. Ding has heart. I will be rooting for him win or lose.

Watching this after the WCC. I wasn't aware Ding was struggling so much. He barely appeared in the news and I thought he was either resting or preparing. Wow, watching Sagar Shah for around 2 years and its only after this interview I realised how good a storyteller he is and how good he reads personalities. Sagar shah segment was the highlight of this video.

Seeing Gukesh and Ding carry themselves in the way they did has to be the highlight of this match. You have an 18 year old who is wiser than some who are 20-30 years older (cough, cough, Kramnik), and you have a World Champion who graciously concedes despite losing due what was most likely a brain fade movement. At the end, the Chess World Championship is meant to be the flagship event for this sport, and these two are the best ambassadors for the sport we could ask for!

I was surprised Magnus gave him such a low score, I remember an insane game with Grishuck where Ding sacrificed his queen and it was a crazy tactical sequence, i'll never forget it and the reactions to it
He won against an opponent who was arguably better than him that was a great victory . Many great chess players can't say they posses a WC title.He should just play and stop worrying too about results.
He is a humble human. He knows exactly what is happening. And because of that, it’s hard not to like him and root for him. Gukesh would be a deserving champion as well though.
great to see this episode after watching Gukesh beating Ding in the WCC. the mental issue that Ding has been struggling with seems unavoidable to a lot of prodigies like him. now that he has "fallen off" of the top of the mountain, there is hope that Ding regroups his thoughts, calms his mind and soul. if Ding decides to come back and fight, I am going to cheer for him not because I believe he will win, but that this is a great example of showing the reasons why human are still playing Chess in an era that machine AI has already triumphed this game in a technical way and that is it is ultimately ourselves that are the mountains we want to conquer.
Ding gives off the same vibe as Francis Ngannou, he's so humble and you can tell that he's dealing with something mentally. I was never a Ding fan, but I'm not a Gukesh fan either, so from the outside looking in, I'm rooting for Ding to defend his title and prove all his detractors wrong and to overcome whatever walls that are blocking his path mentally.
Interestingly, I have it the other way... I was fan of Ding since some 2018 or somerhing, and I wish he could come back and defend the title... but I think if he loses, some of the pressure will fall of him and he might actually get better that way. Like Hikaru when he stopped caring and became streamer, he started playing even better chess since then...
I am from India, so me supporting Gukesh is obvious. But I relate with Ding, I see myself in him. Not in chess, but his personality. Either way this world championship would be very difficult to watch.

Watching Ding win the last championship encapsulated everything that I love about chess, and I think that the willingness to play the bold move at the right moment is still within him.
I'm also for Ding, there are Players out there that I like / favor more, but his struggle and character is closer to me than anything else. fingers crossed for good results!

Good to see David and Kaya back in a studio! I miss the old Champions Chess Tour with the old gang Kaya, Davod, Jovanca and Simon. Their good vibes and excellent beginner friendly commentary got me into chess and taught me almost everything I know!
I absolutely loved the first 3 quarters of this video. David, Sagar, Ding himself and other interviews were absolutely great. It was a really well done docu about Ding the player and his current situation. The last part about Magnus rating Ding doesn't fit, it should have been a different video. A lot of this is a tribute to Ding Liren, beautifuly put together, and then Magnus giving Ding a bunch of low scores brings down the tone of the video and ends on a bit of a sour note. It felt unrelated in my opinion. Still as a Ding fan, this is incredible content, absolutely love the production value. It was a joy to watch and it even made me emotional. Ding doesn't have social media so it's hard to keep up with him, this was a great treat, i'm very appreciative.

Even though I am rooting for Gukesh to win but watching Ding's interview segment made me develop a soft spot for him. He seems like an utterly honest and soft spoken guy, someone who is good at heart. It felt really bad hearing that he feels so unworthy of the love and support he's getting. Whatever may be the result, it doesn't change the fact that Ding Liren IS a World Champion.

Honestly, if Ding can survive the classical portion with draws moving into tiebreaks I think he'll have a better chance. Despite Ding being a bit fuzzy when it comes to faster time controls, so does Gukesh. Given he's slightly conditioned, he can target that weakness of Gukesh. As Magnus said, he excels at classical but with faster time control Arjun is undoubtedly better. Gukesh atm is barely within top #50 in rapid, and Ding even prior to WCC is at Top 10 in all categories. He just need the killer instinct back : ) Note: This is purely factual and does not aim to criticize Gukesh. He's definitely a great and talented prodigy, it's just that WCC is too early for him.
@@VinayKumar-wk6vk The championship isn't only tied to classical chess. Since the earlier days, every champion is undoubtedly the strongest or one of the- in every category. Does this apply to Ding? In his prior form, yes. He's within the top 10, and twice in world #2. Gukesh at the moment isn't at his best to claim the title, there's still a lot more for him to experience. His peak in Rapid and Blitz is World #49 & #82 which is considerably low for a world champion. He's still young and can polish those skills to improve from the other format.
For sure, Ding has actually been ranked #1 in the world in both rapid and blitz. Even this year while struggling in classical, his results in rapid and blitz were good, beating players like Hikaru and Dubov. He received an individual medal in Astana at the team world championship. At the time I thought it was a turning point for Ding, but improvement isn't linear and he struggled again at Sinquefield cup and olympiad, but not as much as before. So yes, he has chances if the first few classical games are solid, take it a game at a time, try to get a win or two, as i'm sure Gukesh will. And if it goes to tiebreaks (as 3 of the last 4 matches have), Ding becomes the favorite at that point.

I am from India but I root for Ding. its important to understand the importance of mental health especially in the world of chess. Many players have quit chess as they couldnt take it any longer. I was surprised Magnus gave him such a low score, I remember an insane game with Grishuck where Ding sacrificed his queen and it was a crazy tactical sequence, i'll never forget it and the reactions to it

He won against an opponent who was arguably better than him that was a great victory . Many great chess players can't say they posses a WC title.He should just play and stop worrying too about results.
He is a humble human. He knows exactly what is happening. And because of that, it’s hard not to like him and root for him. Gukesh would be a deserving champion as well though.

great to see this episode after watching Gukesh beating Ding in the WCC. the mental issue that Ding has been struggling with seems unavoidable to a lot of prodigies like him. now that he has "fallen off" of the top of the mountain, there is hope that Ding regroups his thoughts, calms his mind and soul. if Ding decides to come back and fight, I am going to cheer for him not because I believe he will win, but that this is a great example of showing the reasons why human are still playing Chess in an era that machine AI has already triumphed this game in a technical way and that is it is ultimately ourselves that are the mountains we want to conquer.
Ding gives off the same vibe as Francis Ngannou, he's so humble and you can tell that he's dealing with something mentally.
I was never a Ding fan, but I'm not a Gukesh fan either, so from the outside looking in, I'm rooting for Ding to defend his title and prove all his detractors wrong and to overcome whatever walls that are blocking his path mentally.
Interestingly, I have it the other way... I was fan of Ding since some 2018 or somerhing, and I wish he could come back and defend the title... but I think if he loses, some of the pressure will fall of him and he might actually get better that way.

Watching Ding win the last championship encapsulated everything that I love about chess, and I think that the willingness to play the bold move at the right moment is still within him.
I'm also for Ding, there are Players out there that I like / favor more, but his struggle and character is closer to me than anything else. fingers crossed for good results!

Their good vibes and excellent beginner friendly commentary got me into chess and taught me almost everything I know!
I absolutely loved the first 3 quarters of this video. David, Sagar, Ding himself and other interviews were absolutely great. It was a really well done docu about Ding the player and his current situation. The last part about Magnus rating Ding doesn't fit, it should have been a different video. A lot of this is a tribute to Ding Liren, beautifuly put together, and then Magnus giving Ding a bunch of low scores brings down the tone of the video and ends on a bit of a sour note. It felt unrelated in my opinion. Still as a Ding fan, this is incredible content, absolutely love the production value. It was a joy to watch and it even made me emotional. Ding doesn't have social media so it's hard to keep up with him, this was a great treat, i'm very appreciative.

Even though I am rooting for Gukesh to win but watching Ding's interview segment made me develop a soft spot for him. He seems like an utterly honest and soft spoken guy, someone who is good at heart. It felt really bad hearing that he feels so unworthy of the love and support he's getting. Whatever may be the result, it doesn't change the fact that Ding Liren IS a World Champion.

King Ding, you'll always be a champion
Honestly, if Ding can survive the classical portion with draws moving into tiebreaks I think he'll have a better chance. Despite Ding being a bit fuzzy when it comes to faster time controls, so does Gukesh. Given he's slightly conditioned, he can target that weakness of Gukesh. As Magnus said, he excels at classical but with faster time control Arjun is undoubtedly better. Gukesh atm is barely within top #50 in rapid, and Ding even prior to WCC is at Top 10 in all categories. He just need the killer instinct back : )
Note: This is purely factual and does not aim to criticize Gukesh. He's definitely a great and talented prodigy, it's just that WCC is too early for him.

@@VinayKumar-wk6vk The championship isn't only tied to classical chess. Since the earlier days, every champion is undoubtedly the strongest or one of the- in every category. Does this apply to Ding? In his prior form, yes. He's within the top 10, and twice in world #2. Gukesh at the moment isn't at his best to claim the title, there's still a lot more for him to experience. His peak in Rapid and Blitz is World #49 & #82 which is considerably low for a world champion. He's still young and can polish those skills to improve from the other format.
For sure, Ding has actually been ranked #1 in the world in both rapid and blitz. Even this year while struggling in classical, his results in rapid and blitz were good, beating players like Hikaru and Dubov. He received an individual medal in Astana at the team world championship. At the time I thought it was a turning point for Ding, but improvement isn't linear and he struggled again at Sinquefield cup and olympiad, but not as much as before. So yes, he has chances if the first few classical games are solid, take it a game at a time, try to get a win or two, as i'm sure Gukesh will. And if it goes to tiebreaks (as 3 of the last 4 matches have), Ding becomes the favorite at that point.

I am from India but I root for Ding. its important to understand the importance of mental health especially in the world
of chess. Many players have quit chess as they couldnt take it any longer. It will be a big motivation for all those who struggle with mental health if Ding wins as it shows there is always a come
