What Michele said, if all they're "re-making" is the presentation. I don't think it should classify as a remake. Bluehole have already done so much to change (and in most cases, improve) the sound design, camera settings, healing system, balancing, boss designs etc. They were willing to change the design of the flame lurker based on player feedback. What irks me (and alot of other people) is that they weren't inclined to go further and redesign what was objectively one of the worst boss fights in the game (it's definetly in the top 3). In order to appease these bones of dragons, the Ancient Burrowers carefully crafted a Temple where they could both worship at and contain their Dragon God, a large dragon skeleton in molten lava, should it ever resurrect. I remember when the remake was revealed and how the dragon god appeared above the castle, everyone thought he was getting an actual boss fight. How disappointing
The design of this fight is excellent. You need to avoid being seen by the enemy. But the enemy has 6 extra eye balls, each facing to the side like a rabbit. The game even highlights this fact by making the eyes bright and glowing. Animals with eyes positioned like this can see almost 360 degrees around them. To beat the boss, you are supposed to guess that the game is lying to you. The visual design and obvious visual clues are really lies. The dragon cannot see you even though he has multiple eyes looking directly at you. Revolutionary game design.
Much better fight than Bed of Chaos. First of all, he looks like a 10/10. Destroying the rubble while he's not looking is a cool idea, in terms of trying to get closer to him. His punch and breath attacks are very well telegraphed and on impact it makes sense that they can one shot you. His eyes glowing yellow or red is a great indicator for weather you are safe or not. And i also like that the pathway to progress the fight is straight forward and obvious. The respawn being right next to his boss arena is also good. He does have big flaws though. Him holding on to the wall can sometimes kill you when he spots you in the last second before he looks away, which can be frustrating. Him not being able to do anything after the 2 ballistas, other than breathing sparkles of fire, feels dissapointing and like an unfinished boss fight. I'd still give him a 5/10. The Bed of Chaos on the other hand is just horrible and couldn't even get the things right that were done well in this fight. It's frustrating, it's cheap and it's an abomination in it's entirety and not just looks. 1/10.
Thing is, if they made it so you could fight the dragon god "properly" like everybody keeps asking for, you all would have still hated it. Given how big and powerful it is, it would end up being like the ancient dragon boss from dark souls 2, only one hundred, billion trillion times more obnoxious.

Wow people really hate this boss this much? The bosses having gimmicks and not just being roll constantly to win is my favorite part. And this is the cheapest possible way to do this fight, it feels much more dramatic and like you're running for your life if you don't have magic to cheese the boss with. It's not really a boss fight but more of a puzzle ok, but not every single fight has to be hard just because it has Souls in the title. Battles are allowed to be more cinematic and pretty to look at without actually being difficult. Like Seath the Scaleless in Dark Souls, ok it can be an actual fight if you don't understand how to do it, but usually you can run circles around Seath smacking the crap out of them. So it's more of a spectacle to look at then an actual difficult battle.
So lemme get this straight...Bluepoint hyped up the Dragon God (just like FromSoft did in '09, maybe even moreso) just to keep the same gimmick boss fight? Yeah, sounds about right...Oh well, still excited to play the remake

honestly out of all the dragons in the soulsborne series, this dragon is different, he never seems to accurately gauge, and i think there is something in his vision, blindness. And i think it can only see through heat, and its able to (sometimes) sense where you're at because you're giving off heat and he cannot accurately see like normal people can, hence why it never destroyed the ballista's for the long time being in that cave because they gave off no heat at all and only destroyed it when it was shot at him, the miners put him a lava pool to confuses his senses because it all gives off heat, and is in lava because any layout outside of it he is unaware of, and why he never really breathes fire because it would overload his senses and thus relying on his fists to kill his target.

When you shoot the arrows it does over a quarter of the health bar, but not half While in pain the dragon lays it's head down on the platform This gives you a chance to attack the dragon normally While attacking the dragon it will defend it self by breathing fire going across the platform Try to outrun the fire so your not hit Eventually the dragon gets back up and repeat the cycle
And now we come to what many, myself included, consider the most dissappointing boss of the whole game. And considering the final boss, that says a lot if you ask me.
On a technical level, this game is amazing. But some of the redesigns are extremely questionable and they didn't even bother redesigning one of the worst bossfights in the game. I really wish they tweaked some of the level design and gameplay mechanics.
The second release of a Fromsoft game can never be what the title actually mean. When it's a remaster you barely get anything and when it's a remake you get a remaster. Maybe call it remastered remake so we get an actual remake
i agree, its not exacly a remake because nothing was remade, only a graphical change that i have to say its fantastic, way much better than any remaster i have ever seen, but no this is not a remake imo, the only thing they actualy changed gameplay wise was the animation not of the moves but of the bodies, the attack animations are the same but they updated the way the body is animated while doing those same attacks so they can look less robotic and more alive, what ever if thats enough to be considered a remake that is going to be debated in many channels i can tell.
Everybody complaining about this fight being lame needs to realize that this game was Fromsoft’s first experiment with this type of gameplay and so a lot of mechanics and boss fights etc. were just shots in the dark to see what works and what doesn’t. It is kinda silly that they used the most intimidating and huge character in the game as a weird cutscene lame thing but try and appreciate this game for what it is. A piece of art but also an experiment.
When I was in the temple, I could hear a beastly growl coming from the other side of the fog. I went through thinking it was another normal enemy, not Heading the warnings of other players. I regretted my mistake in a matter of seconds.

It's a literal divine demonic dragon like WTF...
The amount of people defending this by saying "demon boomers would bitch" is so out of touch with actual fans of the original game. An extremely small amount of people would have complained about changing this "fight", why? Because everyone didnt like it to begin with! I know for a fact that the so called demon boomers would have LOVED it if the fight did change.
Bluepoint does remasters, they don't do remakes. While SOTC stands on its own gameplay-wise, there were a lot of outdated stuff on DeS that got fixed on later games. This needed a full remake by From Software.
You know it being a dragon god I was expecting it to be more of a threat to the player not just stay in one spot and look with it head I find ophis more of a threat dispite it's looks
The whole, "Its not our place to add changes.", sounds like an excuse to us. This seems much less a 'REMAKE' and more of an Uber-remaster. Such a let down. It is still a good game, sure. However, we'll have to remain subscribed to the belief that its descendants still outclass it (not in terms of graphics). Also, it is ridiculously silly how some meatless dumplings complained about the minor changes Bluepoint made. At the end of it all, though, we guess this is a good way to hold keep oneself preoccupied for Elden Ring.
It is an excuse. Its even moreso, because of the reason this boss originally sucked. It was due to a combination of time-constraints and tech...which are better now. So...that reason seems kind of bullshit.
I mean, people are going cray because of certain small changes to certain visual designs of characters in this game. They simply didn't want to try and redesign an entire boss battle, which is understandable. That doesn't make this game not a remake, because it certainly is a remake.
I dont know what is more stupid, the fight itself or some people trying to find excuses to defend the quality of this fight in the commentary section LOL

As disappointing as it was when I initially found out Bluepoint wouldn’t be doing a 6th archstone, I can totally understand why they decided not to now.
You know people always point to Maiden Astraea for the idea behind Demon Soul's, but a lot of the final area bosses as well as the Dragon God capture that feeling too. It's fairly clear that it's supposed to be pathetic that you can take down this mighty creature so simply. I'm not sure making the gameplay experience less exciting for the sake of story works, but I can respect the attempt.
Yeah that not the lore of Dragon god. The reason he's like this is because they were not able to finish him before the deadline much like the Bed of Chaos in Dark souls. They originally wanted him to be a massive fight but just did not have the time to make it happen.

They could have actually kept the hide and seek part, but make him more aggressive and you can hit him after a ballista shot. Then he suddenly wakes up and smacks you like how he did during tutorial.
They could have made him like the Bed of Chaos where you have to dodge sweep attacks or else get knocked into the lava and instantly die lol
@TheBuragi So is the Dragon God but at least it would've been a little more involved. Idk how they could've made a conventional boss out of such a gigantic enemy.

Lmao
Worst boss I ever see in a game.

Way to make this boss fight better while still including the arrows.
When you shoot the arrows it does over a quarter of the health bar, but not half
While in pain the dragon lays it's head down on the platform

The Deep Fog eventually reached the depths of the Stonefang mine and when it touched the molten dragon bones it tapped into the power inherent in the colossal flames to resurrect the Dragon God as a Demon.
Wow. No majestic cutscene of the back of the dragon. Everything just looks so stiff. Very underwhelming.
thank you, this was very helpful 👍😃
