I can relate to the guilt over getting rid of things that you spent money on and do not wear but my personal experience is that the guilt over decluttering it is a one time feeling vs. the ongoing guilt of seeing it hanging in your closet and knowing that you haven’t worn it and aren’t going to wear it. So, it’s a one-time guilt vs. on-going guilt. Experience the one-time guilt and move on. You will never think about those items again and won’t have to see them in your closet making you feel bad over and over!!
I still think about and regret getting rid of some items from years ago. 😅 I’m very sentimental and anxious about decisions so I struggle with ruminating about past things and if I made the right choice. That’s why decluttering is so hard, but very freeing when you do it properly.
I so agree with you....I just sold about 30 pieces of clothing to Crossroads Trading and many of the pieces still had tags but I just never wore them. The money was already wasted when I bought it and now it was just clutter that kept me from seeing all the other things in my closet that I love. Bonus was making a little money.
Thanks to my friend Lisa for sharing her home, closet and life! Thanks to you all for keeping the comments kind, fun and respectful. It's why my friends keep coming back for more!! ❤🥳
Clutterbug has a great rule about removing "bullies" from your wardrobe, clothes that make you look bad, wrong size, you spent loads of money on and regret etc. Getting rid means they cant make you feel bad anymore!
I decluttered in December 2023. It took me 3 days and a lot of tears to say goodbye. The emotional attachment I had to the clothes, shoes and bags was crazy. There is a sad story behind every item, why I bought it and why I never wore it. As soon as I got rid of all the items my house felt so light and airy. Much love and blessings from the Netherlands 👋🏽
The only thing is not to fill up the closet again…just so you know my closet is also full of clothes and of course I only use regularly 20% of what I own…😢
I once bought a dress for when I finally was going to lose weight.. ended up losing so much weight it didn't fit me😂 onpy buy thing you can wear at that moment I learnt😂
I bought these high heel strappy rhinestone magenta Barbie dream shoes from a Neiman Marcus outlet, you know for the gala I might go to….. I’m an accountant. I have no proms or galas on the horizon. I just wanted the shoes and to have sparkle in my closet. ……it’s time to let them go. (Probably been in closet 10 years, unworn)
I am halfway through his video and I’ve shouted “NO!” at least 10 times 😂. Just donate the clothes you’re unsure about, you clearly don’t like them! 🤣🤦🏽♀️🤣
It might work really well for Lisa to challenge herself to wear some of the fantasy clothes and see how she feels in them over the next weeks. Fun challenge and will be clear if she enjoys them or feels uncomfortable.
@@TheCarlaProject I do the flip the hanger as I wear things- and realized I was constantly reaching for things that were already turned around- so I challenged myself to wear an item that was not turned around every time we went out the past few months..I found several items that I actually really liked and want to wear more often and a lot more has made it to the donate pile this way. ( 2 full garbage bags after having done a major purge 2 years ago.)
Yes indeed! I see her first try to find unused baskets and all in the houses. It saves a ton of money and no need for buying a lot of (plastic) stuff and all like some others do. Very resourceful!
Carla, your hairstyle looks absolutely gorgeous in this video!❤ Lisa's apartment is really nice and it was nice to see her again!❤ Cheers from Ontario Canada.
I was looking for this comment because I know I was not the only one to notice how gorgeous she looks! Her hair looks so glossy and feminine here! And her skin is just radiant 💕
19:14 I distinctly remember buying a flowy, brown, linen top from Banana Republic YEARS ago thinking, ‘this would be so perfect for a lazy, sunny Sunday, running errands with a coffee in hand, sunglasses, enjoying the day. It didn’t happen, I never wore it and decluttered it. I’m now quick to recognize and address that voice when it pops up. Hilarious…
Hi I'm Lisa and I'm a former shopping addict myself and I'm decluttering too my clothes pile is probably twice as your Lisa lol but I’m giving away 10 trash bags filled.
That was fun! Here’s a tip for your clients: we here in California have two seasons spring/summer and fall/winter. If you put your off season clothes away in storage boxes, they look new again when you get them out, because you haven’t seen them for six months! It’s been working for me.
BEST thing I’ve done is a “NO SPEND” month/year. It feels so good to just buy consumables - food, essentials etc. The landfills around the world are beyond horrific.
So far this month, I've purchased ONE thing that isn't groceries (an income and expenses tracker for $7). I'm very happy and proud of myself! (yes, I know there are apps for this - but I'm a "paper and pen" kind of gal) In other words, for all of the times I "say" I'm going to do a "no buy' month - this month, I'm *actually* doing it!
Lisa was a great sport and did so well decluttering. Can't believe she hesitated over beige and black cardigans, she was swamped by them. Definitely keep little jacket from her mum as showed off her cute figure. Sometimes because of a label or price we paid we can become blind to whether they flatter our bodies and our true to our authentic selves. Well done girls you smashed it x
Saw your video pop up (during my work day - I work from home), ran to the washroom, grabbed a bag of chips, then got comfortable to watch your video! It's like hanging out with a girlfriend to talk about our favorite hobby, decluttering! -Lety from Chicago
Her home is amazing and so pretty! I too have too many clothes. I keep telling myself that if I changed outfits three times a day for the rest of my life, I still wouldn't be able to wear everything I have. My biggest problem is actually figuring out what my "style" is!
It's so interesting at 19:11 when your friend is talking about the fantasy her wearing oversized stuff and I looked at the top on her and it just didn't look right, but all the blazers really suit her. Whereas I usually wear oversize and never wear blazers because I find them constricting but for her my taste is opposite to what I choose for myself. I think she is choosing correctly for herself in day to day wear and her style really suits her, she doesn't need a fantasy self. Really enjoyed this vid, it was like hanging out with friends. xx
Yep, I did that...put ALL my clothes on the bed, it was a huge pile!!! I tried everything on, made outfits, had to say to myself where I'd wear it, shoes and bag to go with it...once it was all matched up and put away, the bed STILL looked covered, but I packed up 4 bags of clothes and shoes and donated to good will.... now I open the wardrobe and think which will I wear, instead of looking at all the stuff and thinking 'i have nothing to wear!'
Lisa's place is adorable. Carla, whatever skin products you are using are working! You are glowing! Love your content, always so fun and satisfying to watch.❤
Exactly, if people put everything they own in their bed they’ll be shocked of how much cloths they own. The first time I did a declutter my bedroom was just covered with cloths. Now I declutter every season and even though I have less cloths I still cover my bedroom.
Lisa should definitely swap around some things in her closet. Like putting her shoes and the shorter items to hang on the right of the closet, and dresses on the left. With the end table there, it’s more of a hassle to get to the shoes. Plus she probably wears shirts and pants most days, so it’s good to have most commonly worn items where it’s most accessible!
Funniest line in here was “I think I hate that”. And one comment I would make is that I think those skinny hangers cause a lot of issues they enable you to jam pack more stuff into your closet than you could with the thicker ones. For someone who has a shopping addiction, it might be best to not enable them to jam so much stuff into their closet!
Haha oh my gosh I’m an enabler! But yea I think that’s fantasy ideals not reality. She loves clothes. Not the worse thing in the world as long as it’s manageable for her.
I so relate, the weight gain, the weight loss, the shopping online, buying stuff just because it's a good deal, hard to get rid of expensive stuff ... I declutter but I feel that gives me license to shop more, it's a vicious cycle.
I'm so glad Lisa came back on. I really liked the first video you did with her. Clothing is hard, especially with the fluctuating sizes and styles. She let so many pieces go! Great job !
Can’t believe that your consignment store will even look at a bag of jumbled clothes! I have to have everything on hangers, freshly cleaned and practically ironed!
Oh yeah here people bring bags and bags of clothes in and they just pick out one item at a time to sort through it and give you back usually 99% of what you brought in 😂 crossroads is a chain and a big thrift store here
@@TheCarlaProject That’s too bad, kind of a poor system. My consignment store lets you bring them thirty items (as described above and seasonally appropriate) that they are able to look through quickly and usually take about twenty five items of mine.
Lisa acknowledging that she has a shopping addiction is key to getting it under control. Nice to see that she was motivated by you to continue decluttering because her space looks open and inviting. On another note your hair looks great. I love the curls.
Thank you, Lisa and Carla, for allowing us to tag along on your wardrobe downsizing project. You've inspired me to head upstairs to go through the massive amount of clothes and accessories that I've stored up there (and haven't worn in several years). Blessings to you both. 🤗
@@AlexShiro Yes, I did! However, it is more than a one-afternoon project, but I'm over halfway through that mountain of business casual and dress clothes. 🤗
No Judgment. Been there done that. I was grow up wearing hand-me-downs until I started working at 14 yrs old. Once I made my own $$, I spent it all on clothes and shoes. Had a 3 bedroom 2 bath home and fill 4 closets. Yo-yo dieting, I had sizes 14 to 20 because would go through all those size in 1 year. I did wear them since I went out a lot. Now that I am older, wise and a home body, things have changed. Especial today, when people wear rip jeans to Weddings. I miss get all dress up at times.
Cas from Clutter bug says 'by keeping stuff in your closet, the money we spent, is NOT coming back, so now you are also paying for this thing you don't like by the space it occupies in your house.." i find it helpful to let go of things that are not a clear YES! we deserve to leave in clutter free environments. wish you all the best..
During my "yarn" diet one of my parameters was not to purchase anything for 1 year related to knitting (yarn, needles, patterns) so I made a list of all the things I wanted to buy and as soon as the year was over I was ready with my credit card!! But as I went through the list there were very few things I REALLY wanted/needed- a little like Lisa said about her clothing photo file. It works!!
One thing I've learned is to first know the colors that flatter you the most. For example, I'm cool winter colors, so anything in the shades of orange, yellows, and browns do not look good on me, so when I buy new clothes or declutter my closet, I start by picking the right colors for me, then I check fit, styles and so on.
Im very good at letting things go, I’m so grateful for that. I always see quotes that says don’t leave anything for tomorrow use it, wear it because you don’t know if there will be a tomorrow also I find truth and wisdom in the Bible of not hold on to things. I also think of my blessings and how wonderful it is to give away what you’re not able to use. Someone else can benefit of our things. I’m currently declutterring and texting my friends and neighbors pictures of what I’m giving away and they can come get it or I’ll drop it off. I’ve taken stuff to the goodwill as well. Another fun thing to do is swapping items for stuff our family and friends don’t want and we like without cluttering our homes, using discernment and being careful not to overcrowd our homes. Knowing when to say no I don’t have the need for that. I just did that with a neighbor I texted her a picture of a vacuum and a nice chair and she said she didn’t need it. Same neighbor texted her a picture of my comfy couch and she wanted it and she’s using it. I love item swapping and giving others things they like, need or want. ❤
When you talked about the meat that you want to be, this resonated with me in such a big crazy way! I’ve always bought things with a vision in my head of what I would look like and who I would be wearing this. I have a closet full of things that don’t fit my life or who I really am. This has been very inspiring.
I was taught to never "should" on myself hahaha it usually makes me feel guilty and if the item just continues to sit there without me wearing it, the guilt continues... so I suggest to let go of those should items!
Lisa has such a distinct and beautiful style. You could see it as she went through it: structural, clean lines, fitted jackets, muted colors. You could see it in the art she hung on her walls too like the abstract piece at the very end. When she wore something that wasn’t her style it actually stuck out even though every piece was different. What a great collection. Glad she stuck with the pieces that most fit her aesthetic.
welcome back lisa! when i was watching the first time, i had such a strong urge for the dresser's top to be taken care of / decluttered / rearranged. and now she has done that due of her own intrinsic motivation. it's always interesting to see that once the seed has been planted it can grow to other places and spaces.
Thank you for sharing. I can relate so well to the guilt. But if there is something I've learned during this last three to four years of decluttering my own stuff: if you are hesitant or find excuses why you don't wear something you probably never will. For me, I needed a colour analysis and style analysis to come to a point that I only have things in my wardarobe I actually like. I know this is not for everyone. But thinking about why you like or don't like something helps a lot.
@@TheCarlaProject Shouldn't be a problem. There are plenty of people around who do that. I dd mine online with Sarah Ryan (she is on youtube as well and her analysis helped me immensly), but if she isn't a good fit for you or you prefer an analysis in person there are probably people somewhere in your vicinity.
I am loving your videos! I am a little ocd and when I declutter I actually sort them back into my closets by short sleeved tops, long sleeved tops, dresses, and then color sort them. It makes it look a lot neater😅
I spent today decluttering my own clothes. Like Lisa more than one size (abt 3 sizes) I know how hard it is to let go. I had 11 tubs of smaller sizes in the attic I’m down to 3 tubs now. And I’m determined to get the extra weight off this yr. thanks Lisa and thank you Carla for so much realistic motivation.
When online shopping I either screenshot the item, or share directly to a Pinterest board so the liked item doesnt feel like it's lost forever if I don't immediately purchase. This buys me some time to make sure item is needed. Also is a good way to collect gift ideas so you don't buy something just to buy something later down the line when it's time to give gifts.
Love her artwork, plants, couch, and bedspread. Of course, the clothes covered up the bed pretty quickly, but very beautiful, and fun, watching her personality and yours.
Note to your friend - whenever you're decluttering - it's Always a "No Judgement Zone", we all know this, unwritten rule! Yes - skinny, velour hangers - they look neater, take up less space and reduce visual clutter. I hate the old plastic hangers - trash them! It looks good, I can see a difference; I'm sure the energy feels so much better. Nicely done!
She did an amazing job. This weekend my daughter and I are going to declutter my clothing closet. I will share photos. You have inspired me. Thanks for doing these videos.
Well done to you both. Lisa was very responsive to you going through her things and helping her to the next stage. You did so well not pushing too hard but enough to get a lot of things out of the wardrobe. Even tidying up the place makes it look so good. I Love your work ❤
You are so kind and heartfelt when helping people. It’s really eye opening to how a second set of eyes with no judgement can really motivate people to move forward. 🎉
That was very fun. She did a great job of sorting. I loved how she had that oversize shirt for her "imagined self." I have quite a few of those imaginary selves as well...lol!
She did an amazing job! I can't believe how many clothes she got rid of, you go girl! There's still quite a lot left in her closet but as many have stated, there are A LOT of decluttering rounds. Hopefully she will go through her closet again and purge, and hopefully get over her shopping addiction. I'm a recovering shopping addict, so I know how difficult it is to get over. I wish you all the best Lisa!
I have to write this comment because I’m bothered by what your friend said “ I don’t like this because it makes me looks masculine “ … buts that’s alright😔 she said, people are so conditioned, what’s wrong with just saying what you feel and not worry about offending someone.
Great job! Decluttering through again and again. That is how it becomes your closet with only clothes you love. You really did a great job. Both of you
I’m like Lisa, I love clothes and need to declutter my closet for sure.. I love this videos it helps to get started.. Thank you Carla and Lisa… She did a great job of getting rid of a lot of items..❤❤❤
Thank you Lisa for sharing your journey again. You did so well! It's important to only keep items that fit into your current vibe. All items you feel guilty about spending money on and donating are likely being loved and worn by someone else.
I love Crossroads for letting go of things quickly and getting cash without having to mess with any on-line selling venues (photos, listing, questions). Just decluttered about 30 items and they took most of it.
Curious if she decluttered the expensive, heavy sweater with the short sleeves? Unfortunate, but a def declutter to me. Fun Galentine's declutter. Love your channel, Carla 💖
So many online returns go straight to landfill because processing return just costs too much. It might be a good motivator to not over order! Definitely no that beige hooded cardigan! She has a lovely figure that does her no justice
Hi, I've never enjoyed buying clothes. I like window shopping, walking around and seeing what's new. I have costume jewelry, most given to me, or bought second-hand. I like watching Carla because she is genuinely helpful and kind. Tina, Al's wife
Oh I never knew about those hangers! They look to be very saving on space! I just recently replaced most of mine with the plastic ones bc I had a lot of bulky ones or wire ones that I hate!
Wow, it doesn't happen often on your channel, but this woman is rocking it. That's a huge improvement. It must make you feel really good. Finally, someone gets it. Great work.🙌 😄
This was so great! Your style of decluttering with people is so calm, nonjudgemental, and fun. I need THIS kind of inspiration -wish you weren't on the other side of the country! I need help. Your friend is so beautiful and real. Thank you both for letting us decluttering with you. Have a great week everyone! Love from Louisiana❤️⚜️❤️⚜️❤️
I found "but where would I wear it?" As my best asset when I couldn't decide... if i couldn't say, yeah Work, going out, to the beach, on holiday.. then if it had nowhere to be worn, it had no right to be in my closet!!
All your maybe--I should wear this items turn the hangers backwards. When you wear it put it in the right way. Next time you declutter it will be easy to pull out everything on a backwards hanger. That's how I painlessly cut my wardrobe in half over a three year period.
I feel called out by Oversized Sweaters Me …. I just decluttered a stack of super cool oversized streetwear pieces that I definitely never wore. It’s hard to be honest about Real You versus Fantasy Fashion You but we’ve all been there. Thank you to Lisa for coming back on the channel!
I love your videos! To slow my clothes horsing down, I try on before I buy. I also have to remind myself that it’s okay not to buy something even when I try on a pile of things. Sometimes I feel obligated to buy something if I’m going to try stuff on, because I feel like I’m causing trouble for the shop owner. Sometimes I’ve purchased things out of guilt for not liking anything I’ve tried on. That’s embarrassing.

Did you do it?
:)
Carla, you look fantastic in this video- your face is glowing and your hair looks great!
Carla is the friend we all WISH we had and need!!!! ❤
I cannot believe she kept that oversized too big shirt airport thingy. 😂😂😂 omg
I feel as through the airport fantasy self is “Jennifer Garner casual hang out day with the kids and holding a Starbucks coffee.”
Yes that’s it!! Casual with coffee!!
i return the dry cleaner hangers to the dry cleaner. the plastic bags i take to the recycle bin at super market.
When you talked about the meat that you want to be, this resonated with me in such a big crazy way! I’ve always bought things with a vision in my head of what I would look like and who I would be wearing this. I have a closet full of things that don’t fit my life or who I really am. This has been very inspiring.
Maybe she could do a 2nd round in a few months, for all the maybe pieces.
☺️
I have a "Buy Next" list on my Amazon account. When I go back to buy it, I don't need most of it. It's helped me tremendously with impulse buying.
I liked that mindfulness book called 30 Days to Stop Being a Shopaholic by Harper Daniels.
I’d love both of those analysis!!
I Love your work ❤
Carla, you are always so incredibly patient
I really appreciate the conversation between you and Lisa. You both are so articulate and thoughtful
You are so kind and heartfelt when helping people. It’s really eye opening to how a second set of eyes with no judgement can really motivate people to move forward. 🎉
I’m on my own decluttering journey and just discovered your channel - there are no coincidences. Thank you! 😮
Welcome!!💖
You know, I think she really did say goodbye to a lot of items. A closer look at the closet and it did look more roomier. Great job you two!❤
Yes! Thank you!
Trust me Lisa you are not alone with the way you think about clothes...you both are doing a great job... keep it up!
Declutter in layers like an onion. Next year maybe she'll declutter the 'inspiring" fantasy self top
I have to write this comment because I’m bothered by what your friend said “ I don’t like this because it makes me looks masculine “ … buts that’s alright😔 she said,
people are so conditioned, what’s wrong with just saying what you feel and not worry about offending someone.
Yes, just say it like it is. People are all so sensitive these days.
Great job! Decluttering through again and again. That is how it becomes your closet with only clothes you love. You really did a great job. Both of you
Yes! Thank you!
I’m like Lisa, I love clothes and need to declutter my closet for sure.. I love this videos it helps to get started.. Thank you Carla and Lisa… She did a great job of getting rid of a lot of items..❤❤❤
She did do a great job!! Especially for someone who loves clothes!
Thank you Lisa for sharing your journey again. You did so well! It's important to only keep items that fit into your current vibe. All items you feel guilty about spending money on and donating are likely being loved and worn by someone else.
Enjoyed this video!! Lisa reminds me of Tracy Pollan, so cute and funny. You're a great team!
Great job Lisa as hard as it can be it’s all so worth it. OMG that bag is huge it was twice the size of Lisa when she walked out the door with it…😂😂❤❤
So glad to see Lisa again and her apart looks so cute! Great job on letting go of the big pile of clothes.
I feel like some clear bins up top would max the vertical space for the sweaters.
How much did she make at consignment 👀 i bet it was a lot
Carla your hair looks so pretty ❤. She did a really good job 👏
Thank you so much!!
Oh, I was hoping that you guys did another video together. Lisa is so funny! 😍😍😍
So many online returns go straight to landfill because processing return just costs too much. It might be a good motivator to not over order!
Definitely no that beige hooded cardigan! She has a lovely figure that does her no justice
Great job ladies the 2nd pass through will be much easier.😊❤😊
Definitely!!
O yes!!! The fantasy self!! My closet is full of it.🙈🤭
Great video! Nice to see other people's process on how they decluter.❤
Hi, I've never enjoyed buying clothes. I like window shopping, walking around and seeing what's new. I have costume jewelry, most given to me, or bought second-hand. I like watching Carla because she is genuinely helpful and kind. Tina, Al's wife
Wow Lisa did great. You always give me motivation to declutter and organize. Thanks for your time Carla!!
Great work.🙌 😄
I never realized you have a camera person with you! shook when I saw the reflection in the picture, haha
I think that's carla
First time I had help hahah
Carla! You look so beautiful, literally glowing. Love the curls 💗
Thank you to Lisa for coming back on the channel!
loooove the improved audio qualitiy and as always the video
Slowly getting better! Still working on sound so thank you!!
Of course your friends are beautiful inside and out!
They are!😍
I love your videos!
I do this too!!!!
