The kitchen looks great! Please take her decorative plate that was her Grandmother’s and store it flat. Maybe on a high cupboard shelf. Where it is now, that plate could easily be broken or chipped. stored vertically.
Maybe in the drawer with the linen.

I would move the water bottles where the drinking glasses are. That way it frees up another cabinet for groceries.
I ended up putting the water bottles and to-go mugs in the bottom rack of the spice pull out. I probably have five spices, so that seemed like good use of that bottom drawer, even if they kind of move around a bit. I ended up getting some bowls and more glasses, so the cabinets with dishes filled up a bit. Have a great day, Dianne : )

What a lovely home. It has been proven here that having less stuff certainly makes moving and making a home comfortable and pleasant is so much easier!
I worry for the fancy plate upright next to the little cooler, that it would fall of the cooler was pulled out. It could go under the linens in that drawer.
Museum putty. Stops your ornaments etc falling over.😊
It's been relocated. Definitely a fragile item and special heirloom. And since then I got so much more stuff, including food LOL, so needed to reorganize a little bit.

FYI (spouse of a contractor over here): if your electric kettle is under a cabinet, the steam will damage the cabinet above. It would be better to pull it forward, out from underneath the cabinet, and place the drying mat across that back part of the counter.
Puck light for the storage space under the stairs would be really helpful!

Idk how others would feel about this but i think id use the above cabinet area as a shelf for display items. The pretty plate could go on a plate holder and the vases could go up there. Maybe the special apron could go on a hook on the wall as decoration too
Yes! That kitchen shelf is definitely for display items, and I have a couple beautiful cutting boards on there that I use regularly, as well as a decorative tray I bought in Charleston, SC that I use often to eat on out on the balcony. You'll see much more before long : )
For a Toaster Oven I can highly recommend the Ninja Foodie 9 in 1 air fryer oven. It does everything: toast, bake, air fryer, convection bake, etc. It’s low profile, and can fold up against the wall when not in use behind the hot plate. It’s the only appliance we keep on the counter and it gets used every day. (In the dead of winter we keep the electric kettle out too.) Easy to clean, and low countertop footprint when not in use.
Totally appreciate your recommendation. I've since already bought one, but it's very similar! All of those things - baked chocolate chip cookies a couple of days ago, and about to Air Fry my dinner : )
That's a great friendship right there! Even though I don't cook much either, I can't imagine letting anyone set up my kitchen for me. I really love organizing though.
Whenever I find myself thinking, "I'm due for a new Carla decluttering/organizing video" you upload one that very day. I must be psychic 😆
This place is amazing. This is the kind of space I envision for myself. Large doors that open onto a deck, a loft space and a view of nature. With all the natural light from the doors and windows, outside deck and rooftop it feels like you're outdoors. I'm a minimalist but also a plant parent. I would have the tops of the kitchen cabinets covered with plants to bring in a natural element and a living wall opposite the bed at the top of the staircase and amber string lights weaved throughout the railing that overlooks the lower level. Just a few things that came to mind when viewing the video.
And the dishes directly about the drying mat is perfect. Minimal effort to put things away once they are dry. Same for the tea nook.

Great place! I would put water bottles & travel mugs to where the glasses are which gives her more pantry space & it just makes more sense. Definitely move that beautiful plate from her grandmother & store it flat

It's wonderful to have such a great, long time friend near. It's a cute apartment, tons of space. Great storage under the stairs, could even put some shelves in there for added storage, later on.

I think that you should move that sentimental plate from her Grandmother to a much safer place. It would be heartbreaking if it got bumped with the little ice chest and was damaged.

That view is art alone!! Loving the kind of retro spacey vibes of the cabinetry too lol
I would make the big storage unit next to the fridge a pantry. You could decant a lot of things into jars and have some baskets or boxes to separate groceries by category. You could even store potatoes, onions, etc in the pantry. Having a beautiful pantry may also inspire you to cook more.
I would leave the upper cabinets in the above the kitchen counter for different kinds of dishes, wine glasses, etc.
I love her apartment! I can’t wait to see the final for all the rooms, once she gets everything she needs like a new oven, etc. etc.
She definitely needs to make that roof top varanda into something cosy and fun to use.

Please consider getting a special, clear window covering for your windows so the artwork will not fade. I did this in my living room almost 20 years ago and am glad I did.

That is the most beautiful, sunny, view, and outdoor space I've seen in LA since I can remember ... and, I can't!
And, it is such fun seeing two old friends reunited and on a mission!
A few quick things I noticed and wanted to speak upon ....
*Please get Grandmothers serving plate for her soon to be birthday cupcakes somewhere safer than freestanding beside that Be A Pepper cooler. It is just begging to roll out or fall over if the cooler is moved. Keep it somewhere special and safe! It is one of the few pieces she took the time to mention its importance, and it should not just be shoved away in such disregard.
*Find a riser if available that will hold the two burners above the toaster oven. That will save space, as they may be quickly set down to cook then placed right back up. There are some nice ones out there in black iron that will go well with the black burners and if you select a black toaster oven. There are also smaller coated black wire ones that are smaller in scale and may work as good or better. The toaster oven can even be on top and the burners just slid out. I'd prolly like that better. It will save space and look really good, I promise! I've done this in my small home for years!
*Always use the stainless open weave silverware and cooking utensils dividers. They may cost a few more dollars. But, they lift easily for a quick wipe each time you clean the kitchen. The solid ones catch all crumbs and debris, and all has to be removed to clean the divider and drawer. Carla, you love going to this for your clients! (The riser for small appliances, too!
*I'd look into having Carla's family picture cleaned. It is often less than you think, and it can work wonders. It is a beautiful work now in a lovely home!
Love your idea of using the electric kettle (I press my coffee, so I love mine)!
The dishes above the sink will only need a few minutes on the drying pad, and they'll go right up! If you get a drainer, get one that collapses and place below the sink.
Love the old enamel top table! I just found my Greatgrandmother's face down in the grass behind a barn on what is now my brother's farm! It cleaned up and looks like yours! Just a little rust mark on the side here or there. I use it by my grill for cookouts and for potting plants. No room in my kitchen, but it looks amazing in yours!

Oh man... I just loved reading your message : ) My last place was tiny. Definitely not as bright.. I used to leave the front door open just to try to get in more light and have it not be so claustrophobic.
Awesome apartment! I had a one bench kitchen like that at one stage and just popped a little oven and cooktop on a dresser on the other side, with that table in the middle like you have done, and there was plenty of room for storage, prep and cooking.
I love how most of the things she brought with her have meaning. ❤
Under the stairs storage suggestion... put everything on wheeled storage bins or platforms to get things in and out easily. Your later self will thank you.
I wonder if there are dish drying racks that can mount under the cabinet or against the wall and fold away when not in use. Counter saving idea.
Thanks for that idea. I have been thinking that I need to pull everything out of that storage room and re-organize - already after just 1.5 months here.
@NicetoMeetYouWithLisa there are relatively inexpensive under bed storage bins that are long and shallow that may do the trick. Your new apartment is gorgeous.

Carla, a Eucalyptus spray lasts for dozens of showers. Just drape over your shower head. As for the decorative plates, she needs a plate stand that is sturdy, and put a towel between each TFal pot to save from scratches.Also, that whiskey bottle would make a beautiful stem flower vase !❤what fun!
Yes! I had it with flowers in it before, and did that once again. I got some from Trader Joe’s that I love, that stay perfectly intact when dead and dry.
And thank you for the tip about the T-Fal products. You reminding me that that’s how they are at my mom’s house, and that she said there are particular instructions for how to care for those pans.
what an amazing place to live...i could see me living there with a smile on my face and an extremely peaceful heart.....love it.....and company coming around to eat a meal or two that i have learned to cook from that french cookbook....she has amazing stuff.....but carla you have to learn to fold marie kondo style...ie those napkins and table runner in the cupboard...once you learn to fold this way with you clothes it is a game changer..i promise

Gorgeous apartment 😍. I'd store tea stuff directly above the kettle for ease of use. I started using drawers for my plates and bowls and will never go back, so much easier to store heavy things in a drawer x

But a plug point above the sink! Where water splashes!?! That is so dangerous and definitely would not advise keeping any electrics / kettle anywhere near the sink!

It's a GFCI outlet
@@1whitecottagelife770 I’ve not heard of a GFC outlet before. I’m from South Africa and lived in Europe for the past 20 years where this does not exist. Hence my panic at seeing anything resembling electricity near water! I consider myself infotmed and educated 🌞 thank you 🌞
@@Busflower1 they call them something else in Europe, but they're essentially the same thing, it's a type of outlet that cuts off the electricity fast. They're required by code anywhere within 2 feet of a water source. A lot of times you see regular outlets in kitchens too, but they're tied in series to a GFCI outlet
@@1whitecottagelife770 we have something called “earthing” which would cut the electricity supply should it detect anything like water or overheating etc. But, it would never ever be fitted right next to a tap (faucet) as It would simply keep tripping the board and could still pose a risk of electrocution.
@@Busflower1 yeah, these outlets are called RCD or RCBO in Europe. They are different from simple grounded outlets (all outlets should be grounded), the GFCI/RBD/RCBO outlets cut electricity off in a fraction of a second.

I love her new place with the amazing closet and magnificent views.❤ I hand-wash all my dished as I use them, then dry them and put them away. I have a drying rack I keep under my sink, in case I have company and/or want to air dry them.

Thank you! Appreciate you noting that this place was locked down from the other side of the country. Luckily, I'd already spent time in Topanga and lived in LA for a decade, so I had a sense of what to look for and expectations / minimized risk, but yes - very grateful with how it all came together, after a long journey.

Thank you! I'm so grateful. It's a peaceful place with nice neighbors. It was quite the journey from when I moved out of my apt. in Hermosa Beach, to decluttering my storage unit... being in NC... and driving to this place about 36 hours prior to Carla's arrival in this video.

Incredible loft apartment, looking forward to seeing when everything is furnished, organized and decorated. I've never seen what appears to be a luxury apartment that doesn't have a stove/oven. Is there a washer/dryer anywhere? Is this a rental apartment or is it owned?

She should get a plate display hanger for the space above the counter. She can display her grandmothers plate there.
I would always prefer to store food in a low drawer instead of a high shelf. Big light pans and pots are easily accessed stored above because you dont need to see details
Oh wow I would never ever do it that way. But to each his own you gotta make a home that works for you.
I am tall and use the air fryer / toaster oven I got every day.. but don’t use pans / pots everyday, so put the stuff I grab most often above - like chocolate bars 😬😂 I do appreciate your ideas - helpful to get people’s feedback as you create what works for your specific situation 🤗

Lol you’ll be happy to know I have bought silverware😂 it took literally a month full-time to get my new place set up. There was so much to buy on top of all these things that I got out of storage and brought across the country.
