Always played gamecube games on my wii but I want to get an actual gamecube so i don't have to deal with getting batteries to use the wii mote on the menu. In all seriousness, this console had one of the greatest and most diverse libraries of nintendo games that only the switch has really rivaled imo. Some of the gamecube versoin (mario golf, tennis, party, strikers, etc.) I felt were even better on gamecube than their switch counterparts.
Playing on the real hardware is such a great experience, there is a lot of work being put into modifications to add high capacity SSDs and stuff to the GameCube as well so it's really still a good option. Thanks for watching :)
Wii actually uses the same GameCube architecture. Only with a bit more CPU, GPU and RAM. But it runs on the same board. That is why the first Wii had Gamecube ports for the controllers.
Very in depth video. I remember getting my gamecube back in 2001 with smash bros melee and sonic adventure battle 2. One of the greatest consoles of all time.
The Gamecube and the Dreamcast were my favorite 6th generation Consoles. I also owned the OG Xbox and the PS2, which were amazing as well but my god I loved that gamecube! Miss those days.
Thanks for watching!! The GameCube was so cool. I would totally love to dive into the Dreamcast too, never had one unfortunately but eventually I'd love to add one to my collection. Some of my favorite games of all time in this era.
They put their baby games on the baby game console. Sega released every adult oriented game on everything else instead. I wish we lived in a world where the dreamcast did better, and we could have a good japanese console that doesn't just focus on family fun or being cinematic to a point that it hurts the games they publish
Emulation is cool, but nothing beats the og allspark and those weird ass discs. Just picked one up, I know the game collection is gonna kick my ass lol. Great video!
I went with a gamecube compatible wii that works 100% and had all cables and accessories for $35 and didn't/don't need GBA player so I think it was a pretty darn good deal.
Yep been on a kick to play gamecube again. And I bought one so happy with my purchase. I always adored this console and was my personal favorite. Rebuilding my game catalogs that I once had. It was a underrated console and had all the best games I've played such as PSO 1&2 custom robo, of course their exclusives and the support it did get from third party. I got LOTR return of the king to play againz of course custom robo, and fzero gx, star fox assault, Mario party 6. Still a work to rebuild my catalog. But I been extremely happy with my purchase(s)
@AbstractM0use I've gotten deals on expensive games, and my completion is mostly complete. Not looking for a collectible stand point just what I used to play. And I got mostly everything I want. Yes some were expensive, but I'm not gonna need anymore since I got what I want.
@@dwightmanfreddi That's how I collect, too. Only the games I like to play, or want. Fortunately, I've had most of my Gamecube collection since it was new, but the few I missed are now in the "too pricey" range.
The first Wii console also runs gamecube games, but the most aannoying part is that you need to use wii mote to start it, and then switch to gamecuebe gamepad.
There were so many good titles not mentionned that I played when I was younger, here's the ones I remember enjoying: Star Fox Adventures, Legend of Zelda, Pokemon Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Burnout, Freekstyle, Geist, Harry Potter 2, 3, 4 and 5, James Bond, Lord of the Ring, Mario Tennis, Soccer, Baseball, Party, Medal of Honor, Naruto, Pikmin, Prince of Persia, SoulCalibur 2, Tony Hawk Underground, Worms, X-Men, Chicken Little, Pac-Man World Rally, Crash Nitro Kart. There's probably more that I don't remember, but while I read the list of GC games ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GameCube_games ) I rediscover so many memories that I had forgotten and it made me realize that this was the console I played the most games and had the most fun on. This is the console that represents my childhood the most, alongside the handheld GBA. I still have my GameCube with the GBA port and the matching mini CD.
7:01 Back in my day, I had to keep playing games from the beginning if I didn't have a memory card. Like how the N64 and Sega Saturn had battery-backed saves for most games, I would have bought an Xbox back then, as that used a hard disk for saving game configurations and save data. Not only that, this is the last time Nintendo used proprietary memory cards for their game consoles. Starting on the Wii and DSi, SD cards became the memory card standard. Speaking of the GameCube memory card, I would bring one to others' houses if I were to save replays in Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Team Salvato's SSBM 20XX Tournament Edition.
Gamecubes are getting expensive along with the games. Plus doing the Picoboot mod requires skill. I recommend the Wii since it’s a lot cheaper and plentiful and it’s easier to mod.
Actually really good writing. Love the random dry humor savage jokes Brawl was a good smash game though. It’s not necessarily ideal from a top level competitive view point, but it’s still better than people who have only read about it would expect. That being said, the reason I’d place it as the 3rd best smash game (2nd if you don’t count Project M) has a lot to do with Subspace Emmissary
17:00 Thank you for mentioning that fact. Not many people dare to tell that story of the Dole company. Im from Costa Rica and companies like Dole are not good in our countries.
Hey no problem and thank you very much for watching the video. I know it's not a good idea to get too political on UA-cam but when a group like that does something objectively bad I have no problem calling it out. Hope you enjoyed the video and I wish you all the best!
My first console. I remember playing Melee at my moms friends house, I was 3. I chose Pichu because he was cute hahaha now I'm 23 and reminisce on those days
I remember buying mine in 2003, kind of on a whim/impulse buy. I already had a PS2 and an XBox. I didn't think much of it for awhile. But that little thing became my preference of that generation. That generation has become my favorite generation. I've never been real into Nintendo's IPs alone. But between that Xbox & GC, I loved the multiplats on those. So many great series at that time that were never heard from again, or very little. Hands down, BEST CONTROLLER ever made on the GC IMO. Especially for Racers, which I prefer. Rumor is they had to utilize the "C'" nub because otherwise it was too perfect lol. The main limitation of the GC discs that I personally noticed was audio. GC would come close to the Xbox for graphic fidelity. Both well above PS2. But audio was the weak point. Samples were always more muffled on GC than the others. It also usually topped out at Dolby Pro Logic 2. Where as the others offered Dolby Digital or DTS tracks. Pro Logic is good, but it's far from the fidelity offered from DTS.
Ended up being a good purchase! Good insight about the audio too, that unfortunately does sound like it would make sense to cut given the way smaller discs. Thanks for watching!
never undestood why ppl have always said gamecube is an underrated console. i think its by far the most praised one, its not overrated at all. if u look up at gamecollecting and game hunting. its always gamecube gamecube gamecube.
Thanks for watching! It feels like the GameCube has been getting a lot more attention lately, but it's also being done with a bit of an ulterior motive by people in the used hardware industry which is why I think it's common to see everyone talking about it now. Either way it's a great console and I'm glad to see more people experience its library!
I think it's a bit overrated by nostalgia, but I think most of the catalog is just baby games, and I hate the shitty controller. Not because of the games on the gamecube, but nintendo trying to sell it on modern hardware when it's actually a hindrance on most modern games that aren't developed by nintendo and just need like 2 face buttons, because that's where all the controller real estate goes to for some really stupid reason. The gamecube controller is what you give your little brother
GameCube had the best Mario spin-off games, bar none. The four Mario Parties, the sports games, and Mario Kart Double Dash were all arguably the best in their franchises!
was more powerful than a ps2 but those discs killed it honestly imo. could have been a major contender. Good franchises behind it but even that couldnt save it.
Aw that sucks, hopefully you were able to save all of them. A good teardown to check for water damage and a quick bath in an ultrasonic PCB cleaner is always going to be a good idea in those situations. Thanks for watching though!
I remember how much crap i got for growing up with the gamecube and i remember how much crap i got as a young adult buying the wii u. Everything always comes to fruition 🤣
Sometimes it's fun to have the original hardware... but I will admit I play the majority of my GameCube games on a Wii U or via emulation as it definitely is quite a bit more convenient :) Thanks for watching!
But can I easily mod it and play all the games for the low price of $50 for the console? I can emulate it perfectly on my laptop, so it doesn't seem that great to buy physically especially when most of the games aren't that fun to me
Melee and Resident Evil 4 are by far the best games on the system, it's pretty egregious to not talk about them. I think the GameCube is severely overrated. It was really disappointing at the time. Mario, Starfox, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Zelda, Mario Kart, and Mario Party were all better on the N64. Plus the loss of Rare to Microsoft meant Nintendo really suffered. I like the GameCube, but it's towards the bottom of Nintendo's systems
im not gonna lie the gamecube looks like a generic console off a tv show cause they didnt have licensing 😂😂 great vid though bro, good take and information
yet you know what is funny the gamecube was powerful than the ps2 but yet the ps2 had good exclusives at the time man i miss old sony and nintendo 2000s born in 1991 so 90s 2000 kid for me . also i hate modern sony misleading there fans into thinking they got exclusives then the games they showed in there 2023 lineup is on xbox and pc and xbox .
Exactly!! The scene seemed way more exciting back in the early 2000s (and for most generations up until the last couple). Having an exclusive actually meant something as majority of the work was put into getting the most out of that specific system's hardware... now most games are just "crossplatform" x86 titles launching on nothing more than twisted exclusivity agreements. It's sad to see the direction the industry is heading in. Thanks for watching :)
It's so great I sell custom memory cards stickers on eBay 😂 because if your anything like me you want a memory card with a sticker for anything that 59 blocks or more 😂
Contrary to popular belief, GameCube was no commercial failure. In fact, you might be surprised to find out that the GameCube itself was far more profitable than the Original Xbox, which was an overall financial disaster for Microsoft to swallow. While it’s true that it was no where near as successful as the mighty PlayStation 2 system, the GameCube still ended up being very profitable for the company since it had an impressive software attach ratio at 9.59, and was able to still beat Microsoft’s Xbox in terms of revenue made.
Most people are better off getting a Wii and use home brew so you have a better experience and more options with controllers.gamecubes and holds way more games and larger storage are nice I still have it but you will have a better experience with the Wii since it's practically two gamecubes in one
Thanks for watching! In all seriousness yeah the Wii is probably more practical... but the GameCube is still such a fun piece of hardware that it's worth taking a look at :)
@@LowestLogan definitely the original game cube is worth getting but i still recommend doing homebrew on it that way you don't pay a arm and a leg for rare games it's just a bit more work to get it to run on the original gamecube
GameCube games are ridiculously over priced now. Buy a Wii , teach yourself how to mod it, and download any GameCube game you want
Wii U is even better.
If you mod, it can play GC, Wii and Wii U
