Game Console Homebrew is Weird
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
You could just play video games on your video game console. For me, that's just not enough. Too boring! I want to do horrible things to my game consoles. Thankfully, there's a whole community built around the idea of making game consoles do things they were never supposed to do. Homebrew has been around for the longest time, and the communities around these hacked systems have been producing so...
Why was Apple's Coolest Laptop so... bad?
Переглядів 954Рік тому
The PowerBook G4 was not only Apple's finest PowerPC system - but, in my opinion, it was also a staggering example for the entire industry to follow. The compromise of form over function at its best... at least, given it didn't snap in half easier than an iPad Pro. But can it run Minecraft? I really enjoyed messing with this hardware and I hope to dive into even more PowerPC stuff in the future...
Early Video Game Emulation was Weird
Переглядів 55 тис.Рік тому
Emulating video games is a pretty cut and dry thing these days - there's usually just one (or maybe two) great emulators for a system that are as easy as downloading off GitHub and throwing in an ISO file... but it wasn't always like that. The current emulation scene is only a mere imitation of the chaotic and rapidly progressing ecosystem of the late 90s and early 2000s. So I decided to talk a...
Deceptive Simplicity | Understanding Kirby Air Ride
Переглядів 3,3 тис.Рік тому
Kirby Air Ride is probably one of the most misunderstood games in the GameCube's game library. It's been the subject of many discussions over what even constitutes a "racing game", and I feel like it's worth taking a deeper dive into the thought process behind it. I personally LOVE Kirby Air Ride. City Trial is probably one of the most infinitely replayable game loops I think I've ever seen, an...
The 3DS is dead | here's why you need one in 2023

It's 2023, and the age of the Nintendo 3DS is finally about to come to an end after a very healthy 12 year lifecycle filled with exciting new hardware revisions, solid games that have stood the test of time, and I'm sure there's plenty of eye strain bundled in there too. Time to pick one up? Join the Discord server here: discord.gg/ghR7vZusqM Chapters 0:00 Intro 0:40 Welcome to 3DS 3:04 Revisio...
Playing osu! on a cash register
Переглядів 8262 роки тому
Turning an old HP Point of Sale cash register machine running Windows Vista into a really janky osu!arcade machine using a special old build of osu. I thought it would be funny and I wanted to make a video about it. Enjoy. I actually did this a couple of months ago, but just recently I decided to take that old footage and put it on this channel for your viewing pleasure. It's a bit different fr...
Why you NEED a GameCube in 2022! | Games, Hardware & History of the Nintendo GameCube
Переглядів 37 тис.2 роки тому
The early 2000s were a time of technological advancement and excitement - but for some players in the console industry, things weren't going all too well. With SEGA's eventual fall from the hardware market, and murmurs of a new competitor taking the reigns, Nintendo had their work cut out for them when they launched the GameCube - but as hard as it might have tried, their little Dolphin couldn'...
The PS Vita is Better Today | Games, History & Homebrew on the PlayStation Vita
Переглядів 7 тис.2 роки тому
A portable PS3 might have sounded like a dream back in 2011 - and I'm sure Sony's hardware engineers were excited to bring some revolutionary hardware to the market with the release of the PS Vita... but unfortunately, Sony didn't realize that their handheld would be facing a quickly emerging market that sought to dominate the mobile gaming space. It took me far too long to get this video out s...
Why you NEED A Wii U in 2022! | Games, Hardware & History of the Nintendo Wii U
Переглядів 6 тис.2 роки тому
After Nintendo's revolutionary success during the Wii era, the higher-ups in Japan that brought you systems like the Virtual Boy got a little stoned and made one of gaming's most notorious successful failures - the Wii U. In all seriousness, I do really enjoy the Wii U. Even being a relatively new owner, having not had a whole lot of time to buy/build a thorough physical collection, I can see w...

Check out Matt's video here: ua-cam.com/video/aeu4mfFUbhw/v-deo.html Nintendo had a pretty rough time competing in the 6th generation of Video Game consoles. Their GameCube just couldn't keep up with the retail powerhouse that was the PlayStation 2, and even Microsoft put up a fight with their brand new Xbox console. Something was going to have to change if Nintendo was going to stay competitiv...
Using Apple's $3,300 Mac from 2003
Переглядів 2,8 тис.3 роки тому
The PowerMac G5 was launched sometime around June of 2003, and at the time it was touted as being the fastest personal computer in the world. Personally, I think it's one of the coolest systems that Apple has ever released... and one of the worst computers you could buy as a retro computer enthusiast. So let's talk about it! Let me know how I did on this video in the comments. Your feedback is ...
Why you NEED A PS3 in 2021! | Games, Hardware & History of the Sony PlayStation 3
Переглядів 126 тис.3 роки тому
Riding high off the immense retail success of the PlayStation 2, Sony, and the father of PlayStation - Ken Kutaragi - envisioned a next-generation game console that could deliver some of the most impressive and immersive experiences possible at the time. So, they came up with the PlayStation 3. Here's my quick look at the console that I've put countless hours on playing games like LBP and Gran ...
All I’m going to say is if you wanna spend less money and not purchase a backward-compatible PS3 what I did was. I bought me. PS3 slim. I modified the system and put homebrew on it, and now it plays PS2 games and PS1 games and PS3 games
In 1997 computers were running Windows 98? lol
i hate how big game manufacturers stomp out projects like this. especially bleem. bleem required you to own the game disc. this couldve improved sonys game sales by allowing the games to be played on pc.
I bet the first creator of an emulator on computers were pogging ALOT
I made the mistake of using the Wii stand for too long. Now it's always flat 👍 Context, I saw a video showing why it's best to always put your consoles flat instead of standing. Comes down to a chip overheating, and disconnecting, or something along that line.
It's always tied for best gamecube game with luigi's mansion for me. My brother and I played the crap out of kirby air ride as kids, it's such a fun multiplayer game
Well, the idea of a chip acting out others chips for a mere fraction of their size and price was, and still is, a "black magic" anyway. Even more impressive in 90s and 2000s systems with all their limitations...
It's so great I sell custom memory cards stickers on eBay 😂 because if your anything like me you want a memory card with a sticker for anything that 59 blocks or more 😂
GameCube had the best Mario spin-off games, bar none. The four Mario Parties, the sports games, and Mario Kart Double Dash were all arguably the best in their franchises!
I would like to personally thank you for making it slightly more difficult to pick up GameCube titles and equipment...
steamdeck is a pc
Best console gen
But I still love the Kirby game series.
I never really understood the goal of this game. I just know that I find it really, really fun.
I played both Kirby Air Ride and Mario Kart Double Dash as a kid and I still love both games. I don't see much overlap in practice beyond surface level similarities.
Holy shit snes9x is that old
Funny thing is depite being significantly better than consoles at games since the mid 90's Pc gaming never really took off till the 7th gen, by 2004 sure you had half life 2 doom3 and a few other but thats really all you had EVERYTHING was on console then for whatever reason in 2006 all of a sudden devs started making games on pc then using the dev kits to port them after the fact leading to a huge rise in games available on pc. I should note valve making steam a requirement for half life 2 and the very existence of steam in general absolutely helped spear head this movement. Now in the year of our lord 2024 people at large are finally starting to move over to gaming pc's realizing theyre a wiser investment over console ironically killing the pc market by driving up prices 100% which is infact not an exaggeration infact its an under exaggeration the number is closer to 129%
Early emulation fascinates me, considering how archaic hardware, software and the internet was in the mid 90s.
Wii is still great in 2024
10:42 you read the same paragraph TWICE lol.
11:28: "You can play every single Nintendo game using just a Wii U and a Switch." Sorry, neither can play a SINGLE 3DS game. That's a pretty big library you just left out. And my PC can run 100% of all Nintendo games. Now THAT'S "really, really cool."
10:40: NO! The Wii U did NOT fail because of "poor marketing!" That is COMPLETE BS! They could have had the best marketing ever and it would not have sold even ONE more console! The Wii U was the console NO ONE asked for. It had this stupid tablet, which meant that the 60 million of us who bought Wii's for the motion controls were not interested at all, and it was vastly underpowered, only being about as powerful as a 2005 Xbox 360. And because of that, 3rd party devs couldn't easily bring the games they were making for the MUCH more powerful Xbox One and PS4 to the Wii U. THAT is why the Wii U failed. Literally no one but Nintendo fanboys wanted it. But fanboys being fanboys they want to make excuses for why it failed. Well, sorry. Wii know the truth.
10:15: Not one person on Earth spend the 6 long, dreadful years of the Wii U's life thinking it was an accessory to the Wii. If such a person had existed, they hardly were in the market for a console or they would have known what the Wii U was. Microsoft has named their consoles: Xbox, Xbox 360 (?), Xbox One (!??!!!?) and Xbox Series X/S (???). No MSFT fanboy has ever tried to claim they lost to Sony because of the confusing name. It's only the child-like Nintendo fanboys that try to use that as an excuse. Here's reality: Everyone knew what it was and STILL didn't want one because it had this useless tablet (that even Nintendo couldn't find a good use for) and it was previous-generation in terms of power vs the mighty PS4 and Xbox One. It's really and truly THAT simple.
6:30: "And now you have a regular Wii with an incredibly clean HDMI output." No you don't! LOL! I guess you don't know, so I'll inform you: *A Wii with OEM component video cables will ALWAYS and 100% of the time look BETTER than a vWii (Wii running on Wii U) with the Wii U's HDMI cable.* Google it or search here on UA-cam. It's true.
2:50: That is a VERY weak point to make as one can argue that Compaq and IBM kept making PCs with the same architecture from the early 1980s right up until the very end. So what? There was NOTHING wrong with that, and it is what makes PCs running Windows so compelling. My i7 Intel processor is just the latest x86 processor that can trace its routes back though the 8086 and even beyond. Your reaction seems to indicate that it was a mistake. It wasn't. And it made for 100% backwards compatibility, which MSFT and Sony did not have with their consoles largely because they kept changing architectures for no good reason. But sure, the Wii U was 7th Gen graphics in an 8th Gen world. That's because they refused to pay for better silicon from IBM and AMD, NOT because the latter didn't have it.
Even though when you messed up you still can play
City trial online with multiple cities was a dream of mine since I first played the game as a kid. Definitely one of my favorite games, the checklist/goal structure is lovely. If Nintendo doesn’t make a new one we gotta just make an expansion mod, dolphin already has netplay and 4k graphics.
Nintendo Wii doesn't have any flaws at all. Its my main console and the absolute no.1 of gaming consoles. Mine is home-brewed and just has it all. Ill jever grow tired of this.
7:30 the Kirby 20th anniversary dream collection doesn't count. heck, that game proved that HAL Labs actually had HEART. the base Kirby's Return to Dreamland game itself was like 1.35GB (unless they're compressed?), however one mode in Dream Collection uses that game's engine for a mode, meaning the game is smaller than that. with Nintendo and Mario All-Stars; all of the game's content was squandered on a DVD-sized disc that's far larger than the SNES rom it contained (it didn't even have WORLD). for reference a single and dual-layered disc can hold at least 4.7GB or 8.54GB maximum respectively. Compare that to the Dream Collection where HAL placed more heart in that game's content, upto and including; localized events and dates near Kirby games' releases (in its timeline mode), a few episodes of the anime and even a video showing its orchestra. they also had no reason to go so hard on the VC games on there since the Wii covered all of them previously, but until the Gigaleak occured, was the only time that the Wii Gameboy Virtual Console emulator was actually utilized. (mostly for Dreamland 1 and 2). in a sense, HAL adding all that content made their collection make better use of that Disc's space. i also kind of wonder if the games' pricepoint just made it a no-brainer to buy, since it could be played on both Wii and Wii U systems. Nintendo pretty much dripfed VC games each generation, but then you have to consider how often does Kirby games get remade?
No 3ds or Vita lore??
Switch modding does great and PS5 modding is starting to be a thing now. Honestly, considering how cheap Wii u are and the vwii mode, old Wii us a bit of a waste of time if you can get Wii u for more less the same price and it can all the same plus way lot more. There is just one thing that Wii can do and not a single other console can, it can output 240p RGB, any other console that you can run emulators on only supports 480i... Thanks to that you can play all the old roms on European CRT TVs in a great quality
(Here's a sacrifical comment dedicated to the engagement god.)
A noble offering
Ubunchu.
Phil! That's rude!
Bro looks like he had couple puffs of da stuff before making the video,W clip
brb I'm gonna put the shady Chinese SD cards into my work PC and double click every file simultaneously (great video btw!)
LMAO yeah probably not the best idea... haha thanks for watching!
Honestly, I think you're best off using your phone as a portable emulation device. It saves costs and will run those games better than most of those emulation handhelds anyway
As far as performance and capabilities per dollar absolutely. The physical controls are nice to have but there are solutions for getting controllers strapped to a phone too, sometimes bit pricey though. Thanks for watching!
@@LowestLogan True. Great video tho, I really enjoyed watching it.
I love these sort of knockoff devices, especially messing around with them. I think the main issue here, is the battery and charge port, they often die fast on these things.
Thankfully it's a USB-C charging port, but yeah as far as reliability there's no telling with these things lol. Thanks for watching!
NEW VIDEO?????????????????????? ITS IMBOSSIBRU
It is so real
Channel is Lowest Logan, but the guy is High.🎉
Ok
now do the Ayn Odin 2
Maybe
the games are cheaper than ever, i got wii fit for 50p
Modded many systems here. 3DS XL, PSP, PSVita, Xbox 360 RGH, Wii U, and several PS3s. Definitely gives me more use out of those old boxes I got bored of years ago. I tried to modchip a Switch Lite but I broke it :C
saw off the handle viola a cube.
the gamecube was the most powerful system of that gen. and I owned the xbox during this time.
I’ve had my Wii since 2006
4:25 "The rise of video game emulators brought a massive rise of video game piracy..." This is not quite true. Massive video game piracy existed long before emulation and even consoles, particularly in the PC space with the copying of floppy discs.
I still use the original wii and gold's gym with the boxing training.
Awesome 👍 good job 👏 I have just joined your channel and we are connected now 🎉 #ComputerClan
Im suprised you didnt mention switch homebrew at all. I think the switch homebrew scene is bigger than the wii u homebrew scene
One thing I love the most about homebrew is that it allows us to preserve things like DLC, update patches, and digital only games so we can enjoy them forever.
