My cheapest gold grabber was a triple stack High banker paint roller pan wash box. Used pvc for the frame and small chains for hanging the pans at angles with a 6” River Sluice for the final grab. 😂
Your cheapo wash plant is crazy cool idea! Funny stuff!

The only thing I can think of to make it better would be a piece of hard plastic on top of the magnet with washer on top to keep the magnetics off the magnet and easier to clean. Great job Jeff and all involved making this happen thanks for sharing see you on the next one 👍🏼👊🏼

The two-bucket method has been around for a while, while-and-a-half. What I like are your 21st century improvements. Ya sure can do a lot more volume per load with a drill & paint stirrer than ya can stirring with a fat stick. And since the batches were so much less no one considered making a magnet part of the catch. Kewl stuff, youse two!😁

That is a great idea, brother. What would it take to replace the magnet you have with a plunger magnet. That way instead of having to remove the bolt to extract your magnet, you just pull the plunger magnet out and pull the handle/lever. It's just a thought.

    • @yoyoyohihihidude

a sandwich baggie around the magnet(in the pvc) just before you put it in tge bottom of the bucket. When you pull out the magnet assembly, it is in the baggie and you can turn it inside out and pull it away from the magnet and you have a baggie of black sands 👍.

I built something similar years ago using a piece of plastic from a cutting board with circular grooves machined in it, using a lathe, at the bottom of the bucket to catch the heavies. It's great for producing concentrate quickly. An important addition to these type of bucket concentrators to really speed up the process is to make a classifier using a mesh waste paper basket that fits inside the bucket, I cut the solid bottom out of the basket and braze in a piece of perforated steel, this makes a portable concentrator that you can shovel dirt directly into it. One other thing is to bring a water bucket to nestle inside the classifier.

  • @andrewgivens5070
    @andrewgivens5070 9 місяців тому +4

I had this idea just before you made this video and what I found was that it's an extremely effective tool for bulk sampling. I would bring a 12 volt lithium iron phosphate battery and a 2000 gallon per hour pump and then a classifier and a drill and a paint stir. Classify the dirt into the bucket. Get rid of the big rocks and then remove the classifier and use the paint. Stirrer to do the poor mans sluice. It works really well. I'm going to have to go to magnet and build this thing. It's a very handy tool to take into the field.

    Hey Jeff,
I went to HomeDepot to get the parts minus the magnet. I am confused and so was the employee on the 4" coupler flanged on the inside, I believe I found the right 4" to 2" reducer. Could you possibly make a parts list with links to make this complete setup. You have a link to a magnet site, but not pointed to the exact magnet to use. Thanks for your time and keep up the good work.

We can only use hand tools to collect the material in Australia, but once collected we can process it however we like. There are bans on highbankers in some states and dredges in all states, but they are to do with water use or environmental protection laws and nothing to do with the actual fossicking laws. This system should be completely legal in Australia.

Just one bucket. Continuously add, twist/shake,remove. At end of day pan out just bottom layer of sand. Could use magnets during process. But the idea is to be able to walk up and down creek with just a few tools collecting as opposed to hauling heavy bucket loads back to sleuce.

@Jeff cool idea now add a bulge pump with a 90 elbow in the top bucket for use either at a stream or with a containment tub to reuse the water as your mixing and dumping the water. 🤔

Jeff, what you have done is basically build a small scale trommel.
    I wonder the following.
    1. How much more recovery can be had with Jet dry on a large trommel by partially recycling the wash plant water so that the organics are sent to a settling pond.
    2. your buddies doing hard rock and a vibrating bed separator with jet dry, how much more effective for the missed fine mesh.
    3. add this process to the "tailings" off a larger process to capture the fines.
    4. leave the bucket mounted at a 45° angle and let the drill flip out the debris as you add material and water ( or recycle water ). put the capture screen at the bottom edge of the 45 degree bucket.
I once saw a large scale Alaska operation ( Cambior ) at Valdez creek AK, wash plant have 1/4 inch classifier bounce all the bigger nuggets into the tailings, and the only reason they had bigger nuggets, is because they were long and tapered and stuck in the screen.
Lots of mining in Alaska is stuck in limbo, because the federal government haven't given title to Alaska to vast tracks of land. So if you loose your federal claim, you can't mine under state rules till the federals transfer title.
Plus Fish and Game are jerks

Jeff that's the neatest thing I've seen since the first brick cell phone. I'm impressed. Now it's imperative you patent it. And your still standing in water. Funny your not on the mountain it's your very rich backyard. Assay your back yard lol it's as rich as the drift mine. Good job. Put a plastic cup over the magnet easier cleanup. I'm done. Great idea ❤❤

This was one of the best videos about gold recovery I have seen yet. With a bit of ingenuity this could be made into a system that could be taken to any stream and get rid of panning in the field. I imagine a system of cogs that turn the the energy of the water in the stream into a rotating propellor in the bucket thus getting rid of the drill.

I'm late to the comments but I've always wanted to use an old plastic conical fermenter (*or large funnel glued to bucket) from my homebrewing days in this manner. My idea was to epoxy neodymium magnets all over the sides of the conical part and use a paint stirrer to keep as much in suspension as possible so the magnets catch all the black sands. The bottom has a valve and when you're ready to let it settle, do so and open the valve in to a jar or pan or something and go from there. Not quite and cheap as some buckets though!

Many years ago I would go prospecting with the friend who got me into it. We started bringing buckets of dirt home to pan out at our leisure in the back yard. We KNEW the dirt was good, every pan had at least some flour in it, SO the buckets should have been the same. Pan after pan, NOTHING,,, what the heck, then that last pan with the wash out WHAAAM! FOUND IT! A five gallon bucket 3/4 full then topped off with water in the back of a truck on washboard roads for 30 miles! We started dumping off all but the last couple inches and panning that out, to heck with the rest. Test after test and there was almost no or no gold above a couple inches in the bottom. 100% these results will vary on the dirt you are working but we were in a creek with minimal clay, right on the bedrock. I talked about making a "rocker" to put a bucket in, turn it on and let it shake/rock the gold to the bottom. Then transfer the good stuff from the bottom into another bucket. Repeat till full. Then take that bucket home or shake it down again on the spot! Never got that far. Fun memories....

I had a thought of stringing a bunch of those right under a little waterfall and just shoveling all the deep spots in the river into them and let them filter all the goldies for me! What do you think? Would it work? Maybe add an attachment that would cause the water to swirl down and around the sides?
