I watched your video before I went to plein air paint on the coast of Maine . This gave me ideas on how to tackle this subject, especially the reflections in the water of the boats. Thanks, Clare,
I LOVE that you put the thumbnail of the boat that you are painting for us to see, it's came out so beautifully thank you Bowen for sharing you earned a new friend Congratulations sister
“Don’t paint what you know, paint what you see” is certainly a challenge en plein air with the light changing. I like how you found the darks, the big shapes, and scrubbed in the golden tones and sunlight to establish the moment in time. I don’t know how you talk and paint at the same time, but I think that keeps you on point during the process. Your brushstrokes are lovely. Beautiful capture. There is something so engaging about boats on the water in the morning light. Mr. B is very supportive.
@@ClareBowenArtistI’m watching for a 2nd time! You paint so well. And there’s a lot to learn by folks like me, as you paint and explain your process and attention to detail. While my wife watches her health & beauty makeup ladies “paint” their faces, I get to relax and with coffee in the morning and watch you paint the boats.
Hi Mr Alexander nice to hear from you. We’ve had some family illness. But we are hoping to get back to it over the summer. Best wishes Clare ps Capri is a beautiful part of the world I was there in my early 20’s!
Really lovely Clare! I can resonate with a lot of the problem solving you walked us through. So cool to see you go through the process! Thanks for sharing!
wow what a peaceful absolutely beautiful place and you're painting is gorgeous, really enjoyed watching with the sound of the birds and the beautiful scene
Hello Clare, a new beautiful painting. I love this seascape with all these reflections in the water. The light against the day is particularly well rendered. Congratulations to you and thank you to Mr B. for his video.
Wow, another beautiful painting, you paint so loosely yet it looks like a photo. I paint with quite thick oils I am going to follow you Clare and paint a lot thinner and blend more, as you do it makes your paintings so realistic. best wishes `Christine and Ken xxx
Wonderful job. Your comments on color , warm & cool & how to mix them while your painting a subject are especially informative & helpful. I found it it fascinating to watch you add in particular colors from your palette to an existing color to show a change in temperature. Many demonstrators fail to explain what they are doing and why. Thank you!
hi ms. clare! i discovered you on instagram. I’m so glad to finally watch your youtube videos❤ I love you all your paintings especially the flowers. Keep on making art✨🤩
Really enjoy spending time with you and Mr B. Great teaching advice and explications. Would love to see more of your paint mixing throughout though…… Thanks for taking the time to share
That yellow and green water was tricky but you captured it. A good lesson in painting the actual colors seen. So nice to watch you paint again. Beautiful spot and result! Have a wonderful week!
Fabulous. I love the area you are painting. We spent 2 idillic weeks just up the road in a fisherman’s cottage in 2018. Loved seeing the boats bobbing about every day.
Clare, I just love your paintings and your down to earth personality. What is the long thing that you are using to squeeze your paint into and how do you transport it? Thank you.
Hi Charlotte, it is called a Palette Garage from Great Art Tools in America, sadly they do not at the moment export to the UK. The ‘long thing’ is then slipped into a plastic tube and sealed.
@@ClareBowenArtist Clare, thank you so much for responding. That is a great idea and I am in the USA. I love watching you plein-air paint and I watch several times a week. Blessings.
So taken by the beautiful place you live and the painting opportunities. A number of years ago we visited Cornwall and were so impressed by it. This is a delicious painting, Clare, and captures the feel of the harbor and the evening light--I assume evening rather than morning. I love watching the close up application of your paint then backing the painting away a bit and seeing it all blend. You two are a great presentation team.
For the paints it is called a Palette Garage from an American company called Great Art Tools. To clean the brushes daily I use a French olive oil soap called Savon du Maison available on Amazon. 📽👩🏻🎨❤️
Hi Clare!! This is a wonderful demonstration and painting! I wish I could live there, beautiful place! I was wondering what is the vessel you keep your paints in? Thankyou again! Lara - Denver, Co. USA
Hi Clare, I'm not sure if you will see this or not but I am wondering if you can remember which video you posted about cleaning your palette. I have gone back through your studio tour ones and a few others but can't find it. Or did I dream you did it? 😂 I seem to recall you talked about what you put on your palette, left it for a little while and went back and it was easy to clean. Or I have really gone mad 🤣
Hi Cassie you are not going mad. You’re correct I did film a cleaning palette video. But I deleted it as I had a few people warning me it was very toxic the solvent i was using. I don’t use it now. (It was a paint stripper) use a real glass palette and scrap the old paint off. Or use gamsol to help. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching x
Hi Clare. off topic a bit, but I realized for some time you've been using a new type of easel/pochade. I only remember the u.go or OpenBox M I think you presented. What is this your latest one, is it a custom make ? is it better than OpenBox one ? thanks
Yet another excellent and enjoyable video Clare, nicely put together by Mr B. Can I just ask what make your pochade box/tray is please? I don't remember seeing it on your video of the equipment you use.
@@ClareBowenArtist Thanks Clare. No need to reply, looking forward to your next video :) PS Thanks for the heads up on Ken Howard, I wasn't aware of him. Pete The Street yes, Ken no.
Oh this one turned out gorgeous! It's always inspiring to watch your videos :D

Claire, you mentioned that you like to use the Rosemary and Co. number 2, are they bristles? Which ones are they? Thank you.
Hi Patty they are called ultimate bristle rosemary and Co. 😍
Great work! Can I ask what make of easel you use? I'm thinking about attempting some plein air and I'm looking for equipment recommendations.
Thank you! It’s a Day Tripper easel from Prolific Painter! 👩🏻🎨

Hi Dorin! The easel that I use now, they have stop producing the Open Box M, is called a Day Tripper Easel from Prolific Painter.com👏❤️
Do you like the day tripper better that the easy L?
Hello I haven’t used an easy L. My last one was Open Box M. I prefer the Daytripper as my board/canvas is at eye level which is better for me. Thanks
