- A wonderful hamlet in southwest Cornwall, with strong winter sun and great shadow shapes. I talk through my process on each stage as I'm painting on location (en plein air) with decision making of underpainting, design, shapes, colours & tonal values. Filmed with my lovely husband Mr B.

A wonderful video of a beautiful hamlet and resulting in a gorgeous painting. Love the contrasts of the shadows and sunlit areas. Sorry I’ve only just put a comment on about this video. I did watch it when it came out but I do tend to prefer watching them on TV so I can see them on a nice big screen! But for some reason I can’t make any comments from there 🤷♀

What a lovely sunny day for painting a really interesting subject. I could see that you were battling with the tonal values, but because you are truly professional, you were well able to overcome the changes in light and your perseverance with the scene made for a really wonderful painterly finish. You both held your nerve when it came to the constant flow of the traffic and this could not have been easy as some of the vehicles came really close to you both 🙉.
Once again, it was a real pleasure to watch you both hard at work and being creative. Thank you for sharing your skills. Take care, and I look forward to the next one.👍💯❤️ PS: If your ever up in Hampshire Any time, painting, I would certainly love to meet up with you both. Bye for now.

Súper fun watching this! May I make a rec? Maybe film a little bit more directly on the canvas so we can see the surface better? That would make the camera about over Clare’s left shoulder sometimes. The rest is great bec it helps to see the palette and scene. Fun. Thanks!

Hi Jeff I use both. Short flat hog and mixture of shapes for synthetic - usually small

When you put the yellow in the sky before adding the blue, did you put that yellow in with turps? In other words, is it thinly laid down? Thanks
Yes it’s put in thinly with turps or gamsol. 😊💛
