1960 Chevy Impala Trunk Lid Splice... Will it go Back Together?

- Hi guys! Thanks for tuning in... Short one today! I'm back at the 1960 Chevy Impala, and I'm trying to make a decent trunk lid using the back of the frame of the 4-door trunk lid to repair the inner structure of the coupe trunk lid... Definitely not a small job, but kind of a fun way to save some real rusty junk... Today we'll try to get the skin back on to the frame... Cheers!

Scott: You say "you don't care", but I've been watching long enough to know you do. If you really didn't, you'd just slap it together and call it good. And that's not going to happen on your watch😁
By the by, my calendar arrived today, and I can't wait till Christmas to open it - but I will try, lol! All the best to you, Honey Bunny, Ms. Francine, and the Agents from the Land of Lincoln.
Another great mini episode Scott. Have you ever tried heating the outer edge of the crimped lip before opening it up? Taking the work hardened element out of it should help prevent the splitting you experienced.
Your good enough is actually pretty great in my opinion! Remember what you said about the 60 Fury, “it’s not that kind of car.” Then it turns out better than new.
I’ve got to say after watching your videos for a couple of years now that you are one of the best body and paint artists I’ve ever seen. Just brilliant work.
Dear geebopbaluba...
👍👌👏 Very well said, very well indeed. I often commented similar over the years (and I have watched all CWM videos, even the oldest ones).
Best regards, luck and health in particular.
DIY auto school in Moab is also good
Don't tell him that, it might go to his head and he might finish the homemade 5 dollar roadster..
@SuperKONR
Dear SuperK...
If I remember correctly, it's more about an emotional impediment that this DIY build gets not finished.
Best regards, luck and health in particular.
Can we all just take a moment to reflect on what a privilege it is to watch this gentleman in action?
"Done in my lifetime." The older I get the more that phrase becomes my mission statement.
The "Impala Club" shouldn't penalize you--they should make you a patron saint!
Word has it that "some" of the well heeled club members might have brought cars in from Arizona...and 2 got theirs from grandma! LOL
Looks good from here... I was squirming in my chair and helping as much as I could. All the best from Iowa
Nice to see your comment Randahl! It means The Shed is chugging along!😉
My favorite part of the week.
That was awesome. That lid was junk- you made it gold
One bite at a time, kings!
Really cool save! Thanks, GM, for stamping different 2 and 4 door lids! Cheers - see you Saturday!
Looking forward to the next trunk lid episode
Best channel ever
Awesome Craftsmanship!
I was about to loose my mind I needed my cold war fix ...cheers 🍻 🚬 come on my classic darts
King of Splice.
Bear Alignment!
Yes!
Another Master-class in "Just enough", well done!
1:38 Need more cow bell .😄
It's a process for sure.
There used to be an old Hot Rod magazine that had good cartoon jokes.
There was one where the young guy goes to the panel beaters to pick up his car.
He gets the bull and it's One dollar for the panel beating, and Two Thousand, for "Knowing Where to Hit."
I love these Thursday teasers. That deck lid looks incredible. By now we all know that we will someday be oooing and ahhhing over that rusty old Impala. See you all on Saturday! 🍺🍺
This project is really coming along. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
I am glad your dog is doing so well, appreciate every moment with her. Gods gift to man.
Cheers! She is a real sweetie.
Nice recovery on the trunk lid..that was some work..looking forward to the Datsun action
An argument could be made that in terms of styling, the trunk lid makes that car. I think your labor is focused well.
I love your channel! Watching from western New York State 👍👏🙂❤️
Great work on the trunk lid!
Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks again for sharing your adventures. 😎👍✌️❤️ cheers
That almost looked fun...At least it's well worth it. Cheers!
Scott you are a wizard! The work you do on these cars is just amazing. I love watching you take junk and make it a beautiful car again. Always excited to watch you bring the old cars come back to life. Thanks so much!
Bonus point
I will most likely never reskin a body panel of any sort but I still enjoy you showing us your process. Keep up the fantastic content.
Someone I knew had a 61 Biscayne - 3 on the tree 6, poverty caps with the wraparound back window, like a flat top. Nice little post car.
Still don't know how you did the trunklid splice Scott! I bet you would be good at gene splicing too!😆
What a treat to see this Scott. You are making great content & at the same time saving this & many other Classic's. Always enjoy watching You work metal. Cheer's.
I think the Impala Cub will give you bonus points on this one. My calendar arrived this week, awesome job! Kudos to all involved! Cheers! 😎👍🏎🏁🏁
Frankers !!!
Thank You for the video ,
You know, you could always paint a guitar with a Boogie Van like paint job and have a giveaway…you know we like watching you do custom work! A Gibson Explorer w a Boogie Van paint job. I’d buy some merch to get in on that!
Always love what you do. Got my calendar through the mail today!!
Great start Scott on the refurbishment of the trunk lid. Thank you for sharing. Cheers. See you Saturday. 💯💕👊👍
Great work fixing a rusted trunk lid...
“It’ll be a nice car and it’ll be finished in my lifetime.” Words to live by! 👍
I think pretty highly of my ability in the shop 😂 but you do things I would never even try with metal, really cool. I am grateful to get to live through you and your friends and thank you for sharing so much of your life with us.
That's neat, I heard of door skin replacements but never on a trunk. If it was built, it can be rebuilt.
I love watching your sheet metal genius. Any car that gets to have your expertise is one lucky machine! You are a sheet metal artist, no doubt about! Received you calendar today, Great Photos! Thank You for another year - CWM style!
Scott, I find it a bit hard to believe that you'd be a bit nervous about anything dealing with metal working... Really enjoy the 2nd video of the week. Good work!
Nice work doctor Scott! It’s always rewarding to see things start to come together and become one again!👏👏💯🫶🏻
I immediately thought Brad, Janet, Dr Scott, Janet. There is even a Frankersfurter.
Yes I enjoy the body/paint/mechanical but the problem solving is exceptional. I see something and say "Can't be done" Scott "Hold my beer"
Awesome. Thanks for the video.
The Impala when you bought it from Tom was considered junk, a throwaway car suitable for parts.
Now you’re blessing it with an amazing trip back to a new life.
Thank you Biscayne for your generous donation.
Scott, once again I will say you are the Master. Your skills never cease to amaze me! I myself would have never attempted to repair that Trunk lid in that manner, you have taught us all much about metal work! Thank you for the best show on YT!
That's looking nice ! By the time you finish with it it will look smooth !😊
Not bad for a two hour job! See you on Saturday!
That trunk is looking mighty fine. I was amazed by how well the skin folded back to clamp the inner support. Tremendous!
Thanks for the adventure, sir! Cheers!! (My wife enjoys your forays into interiors... plus she appreciates anything to make me laugh)
The only guys i know that would do a splice like that is you....... and me! Ill be using good 4 door doors from a 57 chevy to splice and fix the rotten 2 doors that chevy has now. I sure learned from watching you buddy! Oh, got my calendars! Thanks Scott! Mike from Junk's Automotive
Dude the metal work re-bending those seems was on point - Master Craftsman
I don't think your gonna get any better trunk lid in the mail. You now know what you got is good. It will follow the rest of the car. 👌
I was impressed with the skill you displayed putting the trunk lid together. Keep it up!
Thank you! Cheers!
gonna be a beauty when it's done
You, Sir, are a Metalworking Genius! 😀
Got my Calendar in the mail just today here in Central Florida. Love it!
Nicely done
You make it look so easy!
Impressive and fascinating, as always! See you on Saturday!
Great save on the Impala trunklid, but you should have used genuine Saskatchewan seal skin instead of carpet underlay, which has been scientifically proven to absorb harmful hydrocarbons, ultimately leading to premature delamination by the year 3027.
You always have such usefull tips for people, Kyle.
Trunk lid looking awesome Scott. Looking forward to the Ashley Datsun project coming soon.
Nice
We are enjoying each step in the Biscala splice. Thanks again Scott and Best Wishes to everyone at Same Old Shit Studios..
Awesome work man!!
I love watching you metal work. You are a wizard! 👍
AAAHHH Scott, your METAL MAGIC shows up again! Wow that is BEAUTIFUL WORK!! You have an amazing talent or two or a hundred. Thank you for your videoes, You bring joy and life into an old mans heart! Cheers, Rich
Looks great, Scott. I’m roughly your age so “getting it done in my lifetime” rings true with me
Nice trunk lid dude! Looks fantastic, nice work...
Great work as always Scott! You definitely have some skills with this stuff. Cheers!
I really like Ashley's little Datsun. It looks a little like an old Alfa Giulia. He does nice work, just like you pretty much ALL do. I tell you, Pebble beach is shaking.
After watching you build a very nice '60 Fury out of three different cars I have no doubt that the Bispala will turn out just as nice, it's just part of your DNA 😄
From trash to treasure! Great job.
Cool video. Can't wait for Saturday night.
I bet the tom is glad to see the Impala get saved and restored You're fury is a pretty epic looking car so I can imagine the Impala will be the same there's something about a car that is restored by myself not bought restored keep up the hard work 😊
It's looking really good thanks for the video I'll see you on Saturday!
Always neat to get a midweek treat from CWM! Great progress Scott
I got to impress my friends this week by sharing the differences in 4 door and 2 door trunk lids for 1959 Chevys that I learned here.
Aloha from kauai, Hi. Great repair on the deck lid. I am a body man also. Your splicing on the Biscala is amazing work you do. I like what you have said, you doing the work in your life time is true. We Body Man's can do so much in our life time working on projects. I like your work it's top notch. Great video's. Always looking forward to all of it. Great respect and honor to you & your friends in Canada,👍🌴.
My calendar arrived in the mail Tuesday. WOW great stuff. Now I want 2024 to end sooner so I can hang up the calendar on my wall.
Heavy, flimsy, and bulky pretty much describes me and the Impala inner trunk lid these days. Even after a superhuman amount of work was applied to both, I'm sure the trunk lid would be the most improved.
Scott... you have ALL the fun. ;)
Nice use of underlay material.
I'm almost finished with the metal flake stripes on my 78 Dodge van. I used Finish 1 clear and the metal flake my brother donated to the project.
Thanks for the video Scott.
That was a brave deck lid reunion. Whew!
O BOY O BOY got my Calander today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you
Lovely work! Calendars arrived as well; it’s gonna be tough waiting until Christmas Day to open them!!
It's looking good. The parts in the workshop remind me of a full size model kit!
Looks great !.. Interested in hearing the sound when you close that massive trunk lid... Super solid...I had a '60 Olds Super Eighty Eight...("whale tail")...The trunk was HUGE...
That is the goofiest dog ever, so adorable.
That went back together pretty good.
Got my calendar this week, thanks man!
Fantastic video. My new calendar arrived here in Australia. It's awesome, I love it. Thank you from Dean in Australia.
Cheers Dean! Glad it arrived ok... Thanks again for ordering one!
Looks good
So much attention to the detail. Great work.
I received my calendar yesterday (Thursday) Great photo's !
I like the approach of getting it done in your lifetime. Not everything has to be perfect. Any car you do is going to last longer than its first time around if taken care of. Lessons from the Fury no doubt. I'm lovin the faster pace of CWM these days and though a Ford man, am really enjoying the Biscala and the Buick. cheers.
Edit: And all the other cars too.
Another great video thanks Scott for sharing the repair it is interesting looks like the best way to do it i would try it after watching this video looking forward to Saturday cheers always enjoy seeing FRANKERS.👍🙂❤️
