That first outfit is so 2008. Its so fascinating how style changes over time, how the same outfit but with something more loose, or tight changes the era.
Thank you for including plus size people in your fashion photos. It means a lot to be represented. Contrary to popular belief, we CAN be fashionable😂 we just aren’t given as many clothing options to achieve that look😢
I agree on all these looks, they’re dated, if not completely out of style. At 62, I haven’t worn minis for a while, but just above the knee skirts are ok, I still like my legs. I never wore skinny jeans, graphic tees, circle scarves, etc. much. I do sometimes wear leggings at home, but don’t consider them day- or street-wear. I’m sure I don’t look super-current in my bougie midi skirts and dresses, but that’s what I have always loved to wear. When I lost 40 lbs. in my late 50s and needed new clothes, I said what the heck, I’m going to dress as classic and bougie as I want! I still love many trends, I just incorporate them into my classic style. I can’t be replacing my entire wardrobe every five years, so I buy classic, simple, timeless items.
I love your channel! I just turned 57 and look and feel younger than my years. Influencers in my age range give the worst fashion advice, so this has been refreshing. I appreciate that you consider body type and height.
Me too...Anna is the bomb. :) I'm going to be 65 in January ~ I feel like she's an old friend....an old young friend but still. Thanks Anna....you are a breath of fresh air to listen to.
Yeah, I've been really into a straight mini with a straight, slightly fitted turtleneck. Nothing is tight, but nothing is too loose either. Very polished. I love my block heels with this outfit. And I do it all in black, but then add some fun printed tights. A pop of playfulness, but still very adult.
I LOVE how you addressed this topic without insulting anyone's style! ❤ You're absolutely right that each of us can take or leave what we do or do not like when it comes to fashion, and I like your suggestions to take these styles that have become very common or overdone and to change them ever so slightly to make them feel fresh again. Great video! 😊
I love your channel. You are so fresh! I’m a plus size 67 yr old. I really appreciate that you include plus sized women in the styles you show. Thank you! Deb from From Dallas.
I have a zebra midi skirt. I wear it like this: • Gold metallic turtleneck sweater, dark brown leather blazer, caramel boots • White flounced V-neck blouse (Ralph Lauren style), bronze belt, caramel sandles • Black turtleneck sweater, chunky gold necklace, black tights, black Chelsea boots (classic) • Caramel turtleneck sweater, caramel belt, gold necklace, caramel knee boots
Most women my age wear the super-frump formula of tight leggings with a baggy long top or tunic (with an oversize, colorful, chunky necklace, too). It’s so dated and unflattering, gives that popsicle look, big block on top of two sticks! We wore those as slender 30-year olds in the 90s and I always felt stumpy and dumpy in them, one can’t see where the legs end, so out they went! I try to find ways to flatter my age-thickened torso, not just put a big tent over it. Unfortunately mature brands push this dated look still, that’s why I don’t shop at those anymore.
Anna, you are so real and funny! I love how you always remind women that body shape and height should always be considered. I can’t wear a mini skirt anymore but wow I sure love it when I see someone else rockin it. Fashion should be fun and a way to express ourselves, never taking trends to seriously 😳 😂
I’ve read people’s comments. It’s decided we appreciate you. You are doing a good job. I personally appreciate the redoing of outfits. If I’m sick of something I set it aside for a year. Then look at it again at least one year later. Sometimes it goes back in. If it’s well made or special in some way I put it in my grown daughter’s closet. I look there every season for my own thrift shop. I’m surprised occasionally that I now love what I didn’t before. If after a year it’s not lighting my fire or it won’t fit or whatever really valid reason I may have, I don’t keep it.
I just found your channel. I love it! It’s refreshing to see someone inspire new ways of using dated items instead of just urging others to throw them away because sort of like you said Fashion is constantly changing and it could be back. Love this, it’s super nice to see this perspective in fast fashion culture nowadays. ❤
I wore my leopard midi skirt today with a black shirt shorter sleeve sweater. The knit sweater is beautiful and it’s to the elbow. I thought it looked great. I wore it with some black leather ballerina flats. But I wore it with a bright blue bag. Since everything was black and neutrals I thought the pop of color in the bag would look great
I love that the pics you use show different body types. I am heavier and I very seldom get to see what I would look like in an outfit. Thank you so much. I love the way you are able to put outfits together, I wish you had a list of things to buy to build a wardrobe and I could just go get in my size!!!! Thanks for the great advice here.
I worked in a artigianal ballet flat shop it was amazing how many women would buy multiple pairs in various shades like there is no tomorrow..personally I think they are just not a good choice of elegant or stylish shoe and not made to walk outside home, nor drive.
@@ANNAREID29 Yes I think probably they work better with slim petite sizes with a very sedentary lifestyle or just certain indoor occasions in traditional settings
I’m 5’9”, they have always looked ridiculous on me and my friends have concurred. But more importantly, I’ve never found them to provide any kind of arch support or cushioning for wearing more than an hour
There are ballet flats that have good arch support and are good for walking. Cole Hann does a nice one. Repettos are wonderful but out of my price range. I've worn them all my life, but maybe also because I've taken ballet all my life and the look feels very natural to me. And Im only 5 feet tall with small feet, so they kind of suit me. Plus due to my height I never wear midi length. But I agree, the completely flat ones are very bad for your feet.
I really feel so relatable, my look is so ´´dated´´ even now just because it's like an easy, comfortable formula and I really don't like fashion much at the moment... I need this view to feel fresher, thanks.
My favorite outfit is a collared button down with an oversized sweater vest, skinny jeans, and booties, sneakers, or pumps. Timeless, easy, and flattering.
I think it’s great how you tell people how re-wear stuff they already have so your not constantly buying new stuff! better for wallets and the planet! :)
Always fascinating, as someone more into alt fashion, to dip into mainstream vanilla minimalist "british" sort of fashion and observe the slight nuances yall seem so capable of seeing as larger shifts that make such a difference. Most of those seemed less like moving from dated to modern, to more like a jcpenny look to a fashion magazine classic look, sans colors.
For autumn/winter, I love my midi skirts with a LS knit polo top or classic silk or soft cotton shirt, tucked in of course, and a blazer and mid-heel or chunky knee-high boots. I love tops with V-necks and collars, they frame the face, and will get too hot indoors in a sweater, but I might take one as an additional layer for outdoors. I always feel more confident in mid-heels (under 3”, the max I can stand), or equivalent chunky, wedge, etc., rather than flats. I saw an survey of French men who were asked what women’s clothing item they hated the most, the answer was ballet flats. They are very classic and comfortable, and back on-trend, but I don’t think they do much for women, stylistically.
I can't with bike shorts or ballet flats. Because I did it in 85-89. Milli Vanilli was the bike shirt craze. I follow trends and at 55 it keeps me current. You are on point with all.
I’m sooo glad that infinity scarf/tunic/leggings combo is out, it really had a chokehold on us and it only flattered apple frames. If you were pear, hourglass or any other shape that needs waist emphasis, you just got lost in it. This is why it’s better to avoid following trends head-to-toe and focus on finding what flatters your body!
I'm obsessed with your videos, I feel I learn so much from them how to incorporate some trnds into my wardrobe without the need to go and buy all new items so thank you for these videos, they are amazing❤️❤️❤️
I threw out all my skinny jeans and I love wearing boot cut or flared jeans now. But I still love wearing leggings! However, I have replaced all the patterned leggings from 2016-2017 with faux leather in brown and black. I wear them with a chunky boot and a sweater or flannel shirt.
Hi. I think a plain or graphic oversized sweatshirt/hoodie pairs with a midi skirt is a great look. You could dress the midi skirt down for a day to day casual look. Maybe try it out in your next video. I'd like to see how you'd style that combos together!
I really like using what we have and updating. Would love more like this and how to style boots with jeans for winter and look stylish . I struggle terribly with boots and jeans!!
My biggest thing about ballet flats is that I hate the rounded toe! I think flats can look good with a midi skirt or even trousers if they are more angular…I have a pair with an exaggeratedly pointed toe that works well paired with most anything without making one look stumpy…the round toe is just a tad too sweet and “first grade teacher” for me
I like your take on restyling those hot trends from the recent past and giving them a refresh. I just loved the leopard slip skirt look but never got one. I still like that look and with a looser sweater it would look more current. Back in the 90's I lived in leggings but moved on from that style. I think leopard and animal prints never go out of style but can work with how you pair them. Thanks for all the great ideas!
Loved the tips, very helpful. 🥰✨ I also think that buying timeless pieces helps build outfits better and not have to be updating items so often. Rather just refresh a look 😊
Your advice is really useful for refreshing style, thank you. I am 69 and cycle everywhere, so skirts are out (I have kept one beautiful pleated purple midi for special occasions). I love leather; wide wale corduroy; blazers; and knitwear. My golden rule is to wear one piece of leather at a time. So: leather trousers or shorts with either a tweed blazer or a sweater. Leather biker with jeans or corduroy trousers. Leggings do feel dated, but will come in useful with knee high or ankle boots
lol I wear my flash tone biker shorts under dresses for chafing. I would never wear them as trousers... Same for my leggings. They are at home wear or worn under a dress. I agree, round toe ballet flats make your foot look stubby. The skirt with flats is very 60s and I like that look on most folks.
I’ve always felt weird because I don’t enjoy leggings, or short boots, or hats…now I’m in style! Haha, I know it’s all personal preference and I’m dressing for myself! Your videos are a great reference point and I’ve taken many pieces of advice from here that have improved my look. Ahem, I tuck in almost EVERY SHIRT NOW. (I realize this isn’t proprietary advice, but you pushed me to try it so you get the props)
here in australia I have noticed that satin maxi skirts in one color but bright colors like orange, spring green & bright sky blue have replaced those leopard print midi skirts these can even be worn in winter with straight leg pants in a pale color for a current style
I have never wore leggings or yoga pants. My friends always tell me I’m the only woman on the planet who has not. I just personally don’t feel comfortable in them and they are worn inappropriately so often.
Yeah, I don't wear them outside my home alone. I will wear them under jeans when it's really cold and I will wear them at home to exercise. Like you, I just don't feel comfortable in them.
Great video, as usual! I really love knowing what small tweaks will make something dated feel current--I NEED these videos! And I love how you invite us to leave a "thumbs down" if we didn't like it, as if anyone would not like one of your awesome vids! Keep up the great tips 🙂
First video I've watched from you and loved it! Thanks for the great pics for inspiration and thoughts on updated looks. You explain things really well.
So helpful…as I lie here in bed thinking, what to wear today? Definitely not the leopard midi with the graphic tee…lol thank you, Anna! I love new video mornings! ❤️
Thanks as always. I'm a "slow adopter," so by the time I've noticed a trend (leopard skirts, anyone?) it's probably passé! But I did think they look great with a chunky sweater and boots. Also thanks for having so much of your content commercial free, or with small sponsor inserts. I am about to give up on another channel that has become more like infomercials, heavy on the "mercial" part.
Thanks for this, Melanie! ❤️ Fall is a big season for advertisements it’s just the nature of this platform don’t give up on those other creators just yet! ❤️
@@ANNAREID29 Anna, can you consider creating a post on layered dressing for every day? I have both touch issues and temperature issues (not menopausal but creating similar problems). I much prefer wearing a sleeveless top/blouse with another layer that can be stripped off easily, but I need help figuring out how to do that and still have an actual "look" with just the sleeveless top. All the women from age 45+ who experience hot flashes probably would love to have ideas, too. Anyway, just a thought for you to roll around in your brain, if you choose. :)
Amazing outfit ideas! Love your channel! I always get outfit inspo from watching your videos. I realize I have all of the pieces but your videos always help to style those pieces!
True that most advice for older women stinks. But not yours. Ageism is alive and well unfortunately. Amen to taking what works for us and going with it. Thank you!
Today I am wearing black legging with velvet piping on the sides, black knee high booties, a net red sweater and black blazer. I tried the outfit with my heeled booties but the knee high boots set the look off.
Funny, some of these trends I never realized were trends! Lol. I was the MOST oblivious to fashion & trends till recently. Ok, so..... When does a trend become a classic? I think skinny jeans & ballets have become a classic, it's just how they are currently styled & I never knew the animal print midi skirt was a thing, nor the circle scarves, leggings & hats (my obliviousness). I have always LOVED straight leg & boot cut jeans. The craziest trend here was the bicycle shorts as normal clothing wear. Ummm... what, huh, why? I don't recall it, but maybe I saw them & assumed the person just finished a workout & threw something on to do errands afterwards? Idk, but I can't wrap my brain around it.
Thank you! This is what we need! Ideas to use the things we have in new ways rather than acquiring new stuff. Great content and good job with the example photos!
Omg hard NO on this first outfit, I think a if you must wear this wear it with a fidora loose the scarf and taller boots. Never into animal prints. Everything tight OHN I need comfort in my life Never did the biker shorts , tailor shorts work I like pointed toe flats with a maxi dress or skirt. I have ballet flats that I have yet to wear. Great video as always Anna 🎉
Yes Anna agree with all. Have only one ballet flats its Chanel black ones. I keep them to wear with shorter dresses , and maxi forn fitting dress. So it could dress down the look. Have a blessed day 🙏🧡
I didn't even question if it was dated, I've just worn out all my leggings while working from home the last few years and have been needing new ways to style outfits 😂 But I am glad we're moving away from the midi skirts a bit! I've got one that looks great with thick tights in the winter, but it's so much better now that I can find different lengths to wear.
Great updates for your wardrobe. Still confused as to when something becomes either dated or classic (I would consider ballet flats classic - I'm 75 and have been wearing them for over 60 years (not the same pair!!). Glad that tall boots seem to be having another moment, love them. Midi skirts are just the wrong length on almost anyone (IMHO) so hope that they stay dated!
I think, like most things, it's the other items you're pairing them with that can make something look dated (i.e. the midi skirt + ballet flats). I agree, midi skirts are tough for most everyone! ❤️❤️❤️
Midi skirts can be ballet length, just showing a little bit of your ankle. The ones that come to the middle of your calf aren't flattering on most people.
I realize midi skirts and dresses aren’t the best look but I’ve loved them forever (like, since the 80’s) and plan to keep wearing them. Although I wear mostly dresses now and not skirts. Mostly in the summer.
Skirts calf height are not dated, but it is not a length that is flattering on most. They meant using them with ballet flats, which by the way I don't think are dated either.
@@vaderladyl Ballet length (it covers the wider part of your calf and is almost a maxi) is what I was saying can be flattering. I didn't confuse it with ballet flats.
Wow, thank you! I was getting bored with my wardrobe but putting off a haul of new things. This really helped me get some new perspective and fresh ideas!!
I could do ballet flats back in the day but now I find them so uncomfortable after years with dad shoes and chunky sneakers. Hoping those never fully go away as they make my podiatrist so happy.
so enjoyed your video. well into my 6th decade, yeah, i do me and know what i like, feel comfy in, etc. i am very appreciative of the fact that you are of the opinion that we all "do" what we like, just maybe tweak it a bit. your updates are fabulous and very helpful. as i am tall but have a bit of a more, um, generous midsection (lol) tight tight everything not the best look. i love leggings and so many "fashion influencers" are saying to rid your closet of these. nope. never. so i appreciate your take on the updating. and i love scarves. all kinds, but never got in to the circle ones. more busty ladies such as myself just could never pull that one off. thanks!
That first outfit is so 2008. Its so fascinating how style changes over time, how the same outfit but with something more loose, or tight changes the era.

omg i just tried to restyle the first thumbnail pic for myself - was looking for a leo printed dress for ages 😂
I just discovered you. I LOVED your approach to update and refresh looks while using what's in the closet! Outstanding content. I'm a follower now. 👍💯
Thank you so much, Christine! ❤️❤️❤️
Oooo those leopard midi ideas are 🔥
Glad you like them! ❤️❤️
lol I wear my flash tone biker shorts under dresses for chafing. I would never wear them as trousers... Same for my leggings. They are at home wear or worn under a dress. I agree, round toe ballet flats make your foot look stubby. The skirt with flats is very 60s and I like that look on most folks.
A lot people in my comment section feel the same way about the biker shorts! 😃❤️🤣
LOL I love that! I love that you are experimenting with new things to see what works for you ❤️❤️❤️
@@ANNAREID29 I so appreciate your inspiration, and your sense of humor!
Oh I remember the shorts with the blazer style in the early 90ies! Thanks for your style advise! They are inspiring
I almost got rid of my leopard midi the other day... I like the update... glad I kept it
here in australia I have noticed that satin maxi skirts in one color but bright colors like orange, spring green & bright sky blue have replaced those leopard print midi skirts these can even be worn in winter with straight leg pants in a pale color for a current style
I have never wore leggings or yoga pants. My friends always tell me I’m the only woman on the planet who has not.
I just personally don’t feel comfortable in them and they are worn inappropriately so often.
LOL I think you should go with what you feel good in! Maybe that's not leggings! ❤️❤️🤣
Yeah, I don't wear them outside my home alone. I will wear them under jeans when it's really cold and I will wear them at home to exercise. Like you, I just don't feel comfortable in them.
I only wear those rarely and always covering my behind. I feel exposed if I don't.
for the leather midi i would add docs and wear a baggy untucked tee or crewneck
Yess largest part of calf! I thought I was crazy because I’ve never been self conscious about my shins before?? It was that midi length
Great video, as usual! I really love knowing what small tweaks will make something dated feel current--I NEED these videos! And I love how you invite us to leave a "thumbs down" if we didn't like it, as if anyone would not like one of your awesome vids! Keep up the great tips 🙂
The takeaway from this video… balance, balance, balance! Yes!
Balance always balance! 🙌🙌🙌❤️
First video I've watched from you and loved it! Thanks for the great pics for inspiration and thoughts on updated looks. You explain things really well.
Oh! And I'm loving mules with mom jeans too!!
So helpful…as I lie here in bed thinking, what to wear today? Definitely not the leopard midi with the graphic tee…lol thank you, Anna! I love new video mornings! ❤️
LOL I love this 🤣🤣
Thanks as always.
I’m so looking forward to the end of midi skirts, I want knee length skirts to be an all time available staple.
Nooooo, I love midi’s and plan to wear them forever lol. My very favorite thing. I realize that’s not the best look tho. But I love it so..
You definitely deserve more subscribers! I love your fashion videos 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely agree. Anna is real, funny and not pretentious. 👍
Great video Anna! Thank you for helping us to update our looks!
Amazing outfit ideas! Love your channel! I always get outfit inspo from watching your videos. I realize I have all of the pieces but your videos always help to style those pieces!
That’s great! I love it when I find new ways to wear the stuff I already have too makes me feel like it’s Christmas 🤣❤️
also here in queensland we are experiencing an unusually hot humid winter so it's difficult to dress 😬
Agree with everything you said. I must admit I never liked the bike shorts with blazers but each to their own 😊 great vid ❤️
Love that! I am loving the taller boots with leggings ❤️❤️
What a great concept for a video! Thoroughly enjoyed this 😊
“Actually biking somewhere…” Hahahaha, how could you not laugh when you said it. Hilarious ❤️
Ha! I love this so much 🤣🤣 I 100% agree it's how things are styled that usually makes them current or not. ❤️❤️
So many pics with good examples!
Short, sweet and relatable, loved the sweater you are wearing, looking good fresh.
Thank you, Grace! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! This is what we need! Ideas to use the things we have in new ways rather than acquiring new stuff. Great content and good job with the example photos!
Omg hard NO on this first outfit, I think a if you must wear this wear it with a fidora loose the scarf and taller boots.
Never into animal prints.
Everything tight OHN I need comfort in my life
Never did the biker shorts , tailor shorts work
I like pointed toe flats with a maxi dress or skirt.
I have ballet flats that I have yet to wear.
Great video as always Anna 🎉
Love this and thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
Yes Anna agree with all. Have only one ballet flats its Chanel black ones. I keep them to wear with shorter dresses , and maxi forn fitting dress. So it could dress down the look. Have a blessed day 🙏🧡
Those sound beautiful! ❤️❤️
Can we PLEASE bid farewell to the Amazon leopard print satin skirt?😂
LOL I forgot that they were a big seller on Amazon 🤣🤣
Chinese made polyester satin is NEVER a good look....
Everyone needs to get a good boot cut pair of denim. And a chunky boot! Or a combat boot. It immediately elevates your outfit and looks more stylish
got my thrifted denim flared jeans & thrifted knee length lace up snow boots 🙂
Your advice is flawless as always! ❤
Thank you so much, Serena! ❤️❤️❤️
Loved how you talk about the trends 🥰
great tips :) they do look dated and the tips you gave really gave them a refreshed look!
This video was legitimately very helpful!
i love your size and style inclusivity
Wow, thank you! I was getting bored with my wardrobe but putting off a haul of new things. This really helped me get some new perspective and fresh ideas!!
I could do ballet flats back in the day but now I find them so uncomfortable after years with dad shoes and chunky sneakers. Hoping those never fully go away as they make my podiatrist so happy.
I was skeptical but you have great style ideas. ❤
Some excellent tips here! Thanks!
so enjoyed your video. well into my 6th decade, yeah, i do me and know what i like, feel comfy in, etc. i am very appreciative of the fact that you are of the opinion that we all "do" what we like, just maybe tweak it a bit. your updates are fabulous and very helpful. as i am tall but have a bit of a more, um, generous midsection (lol) tight tight everything not the best look. i love leggings and so many "fashion influencers" are saying to rid your closet of these. nope. never. so i appreciate your take on the updating. and i love scarves. all kinds, but never got in to the circle ones. more busty ladies such as myself just could never pull that one off. thanks!
