    Usually don't round up videos, but with this i had to get to the end of this video. Chuck i applaud your enthusiasm. Another tip i employ avoiding procrastination and staying focus studying for my CCNA R/S is by
    1. Write out boldly in Capital letters the reason for pursuing this certification and with all optimism list out possible rewards; stuffs like $75k annually which can afford me getting a good car, save for a nice house and all those dreamy dreamy stuffs. You could have these pasted on your walls, your doors, bed edge, car dash board, kitchen, bathroom just any where you know your eyes frequent often. The more you see it, the more your brain registers it.
    2. Self Development: What makes you better than yesterday is what you added to your faculty of knowledge today, so each day ask yourself by writing the question???? Did my brain learn anything new today? And don't forget to answer the question well scripted out on a sheet of paper, or card board paper.
    3. Disturbing Reminder: This particularly works for me a lot. I set a reminder on my phone with my voice recording as the alarm tone for the reminder. Something like in a loud voice "Ezekiel go and study for your CCNA R&S so you can pass and earn that $75k" sounds funny but its true.
    Lastly: Chuck has dully mentioned it which is the application known as Brain Focus (it is on Android play store as Brain Focus) an organisational tool that regulates, structure and keeps track of your study sessions.
    I hope you find these tips useful and please reply with improved methods and tips to fight procrastination for better self sufficiency as regards IT certification pursuit.
    Thank you

    I'm a Pomodore user, and I love it, PROCRASTINATION it's like joining the dark side of the force, is the most easy way get rid of responsibilities... Something that helps me a lot when study is music, and personally the best music for me is "Chillhop music" this keep me focus and put me on nerdy mode.
    And also a great tool to keep my mind set on my goals is viewing this kind of videos, this video has a pretty good content.
    We can achieve what we propose.

    Adderall and UA-cam videos are the only things that are helping me to succeed in my college CCNA1&2 class. It’s both levels in one semester. I have a 3 hour and 40 minute class on Wednesday nights and then the rest of the labs & study materials are on the Netacad website. Sometimes it takes me several hours to get thru a chapter but I outline it with very thorough notes as I go along for future reference.

    Semi organized brain dumps are very useful to me. I have general headers (eg. Personal, careers, things to Google later, etc) and then use mini post its to organize my brain dumps into them. Can be done with digital placers/notebooks as well.
    Also, if you have adhd and need noise while studying - music can distract me bcs it's good music lol, I use ocean sounds or rain. Or something like lofi but ocean/rain sounds are less distracting. And the miracle of brown noise is the best thing imo -literally calms my brain so easily

    Maybe you could make a video explaining how you managed your CCNA? Did you take ICND1 and ICND2 or did you take the CCNA exam? How long time did it take and maybe if you learned some study methods that didn't work for you along the way?
    I went through the CCNA at school 3 years ago, but didn't knew I needed to take a final exam to get the CCNA certificate. Now I'm reading the ICND1 after work and plan to enter the "awesome zone" and start working with Cisco equipment! :D
    Anyway, keep up the good work!

    Now that I am home, I can give a more informative reply.
    I have tried the brute force method and as much as I do this I end up getting burnt out and I keep forcing myself. I think I am going to try the pomodoro method for studying. Man, kids are just so hard to study with! Its funny, I would love to get away from the home and study at a library or starbucks or what have you. However, on my days off I just wanna be around my family! Double edge sword man. Thanks for the tips.
    Edit: One thing I want to share not so much about procrastination but I feel like this can help you get back to work sooner and less dragging ass. We all know we are in front of computer more than what we like to admit. I feel like this hurts us when it comes to studying because not only are we in front of computers at work but then we come home to study in front of a computer. I think we should all take a day where we get the hell out of our "offices". I enjoy going out to the park and enjoying a few hours with my daughter. This seems to distress me so much more than just relaxing in front of the computer/playing video games.

    It's especially difficult for us ADD types. I sometimes get to the point of giving myself indigestion from trying to focus so hard and not think about random stuff like that embarrassing moment I had in 6th grade and why I find Penguins so fascinating. But thankfully I'm a loaner, so I don't have to worry about external distractions. Thanks for the post, and you have a beautiful family, God bless them :)

    Just recently found your videos. Definitely one of the most practical videos in using Pomodoros. I just started experimenting with them (25/5 and 30/10). Still get distracted though. Also hate stopping for a break when I get into a groove. So I think I just need to keep using Pomodoros until I find the right rhythm. I found an app that plays nature sounds and uses a timer. When the sound goes off I am done. Sometimes it helps, sometimes I need quiet.

    23. And never say of anything, "I shall do such and such thing tomorrow."
    24. Except (with the saying), "If Allah will!" And remember your Lord when you forget and say: "It may be that my Lord guides me unto a nearer way of truth than this."

    Very valuable video. Thank you so much for this information sir. For me, it's always a battle between video games and studying for certs....but now with this method i can already tell it'll be much easier and less of an "overwhelmed feeling" lol.

      NetworkChuck Haha it sure is brother!! Those small incremental breaks will make a huge difference. Btw, if you have some insight I'd love a reply since you have more experience than I currently do. Did you start with ccna as a first step in your whole IT career or did you originally start with say A+ and then worked your way up or is that not necessary? Trying to gage which certs I should try going for that will be most beneficial and have at least a 70k-150k earning potential. I know ccna will definitely be valuable. Other suggestions that you think add a lot of value and will get my foot in the door as early as possible I'd appreciate it! Going to subscribe as well. Thanks in advance!

      I started with the A+ to land a solid helpdesk role. If you are already on a helpdesk......jump right into your CCNA. Otherwise, you definitely need to work on your A+ to help you land that role.

    I started last year as a graduate Systems Engineer at Cisco. We were expected to go from zero networking experience to being CCNA, CMNA and CCNP certified in under a year - on top of a regular 9 - 5 job. If you want to know pain - it is that.

    Wow I am going to try this method first I've heard of it. I will take a class at my local community college that supposed to prepare you for the CCENT then CCNA. Any advice on gathering knowledge in a classroom environment would be helpful. Def good tips . Checking out your site for the apps.

      CCNA classes can give you everything you need but it takes much longer!!! I would recommend supplementing with some self study materials.

      Start out with a solid CCNA video course and go from there. Lab some things up in Packet Tracer and see if you like it.

    Great Video very inspiring!!! quick question I have access to CBT nuggets, how many videos do you watch per 25 min session? also after the video or videos when do you lab the material.. I tend to watch 2-4 depending on length but it all starts to blend in. thank for the videos again!

    • @NetworkChuck
      @NetworkChuck  7 років тому +1

      I try to get a solid topic complete in a 25 min session. Most CBT videos are pretty small so I'll usually do 2-3.
      I usually lab after I finish a section, like OSPF, or EIGRP.

    Great advice, thanks! Procrastination is really one of my weakness and I can easily be distracted. I'm just starting to study CCNA, what (free) books and/or videos as well as software you best recommend?

    • @NetworkChuck
      @NetworkChuck  7 років тому

      It can be difficult to parse through, but the Cisco Learning Network has a TON of free study material. They will have everything you need, just not in a curriculum format. I would download the CCNA blueprint and try to study each topic in-depth using the CLN. learningnetwork.cisco.com/welcome

      Haha ok. Thx again for the info. Still researching which devices to get, but I think I'll be getting 3 routers and 3 switches. For layer 3 switching, will I needs at least two capable of it?

    • @NetworkChuck
      @NetworkChuck  7 років тому +1

      If you are buying a lab that will get you through the CCNP as well, definitely invest in stackable layer 3 switches. If you are just wanting a lab for CCNA, a couple layer 2 switches is fine. You can even get away with just Packet Tracer.

    Learning how to study and better ways to get the job done isn't procrastinating but learning how not to procrastinate. We must learn how to study because if not everyone would be doing the damn thing.

      I went with Switch first because I heard it was the easiest. (And it was!) I then went ROUTE and now TSHOOT. I don't think it matters as long as you do TSHOOT last.

      I use GNS3 for most of my labs. For the switching I used real equipment from my job.
      For the TSHOOT exam, I'm going to try out the Cisco Learning Network's Learning Labs.
